I met Jon at Toronto pre party for solo ED show at Massey. Very cool guy :)

Hope to see you at ACC (if I go :) )

That's the one I hit yesterday with a $120 bid... I put in 3 and 1/2 star or higher (the Sutton is a 4 according to the website) and Toronto Downtown North and South locations...

I made about 10-12 different combinations of bids in a 20 hour period before I got that one...

    hey Mr Merkin

would you say that hotels view guests differently depending on how they booked their room/price being paid?

i always feel like hotwire/priceline gets you the bottom of the barrel room wise

    true or not true?

    VERY True.

Remember that the concept of these sites, is to help Hotels unload inventory it has not been able to sell.

We treat everyone the same (service wise) but you are getting our crappiest of rooms.

Funny... I've never had an issue with anything I've booked via priceline... I mean I was sure that this was policy, but everything i've ever booked through priceline and hotwire has been a very nice room (although I've never dipped below a 3 and 1/2 star when booking through any of these sites).

I checked it out when I was sizing up my bids for this hotel, but it didn't help me out much.

I'm happy with what I got for the price I paid. $120 a night for a room in a 4-star hotel (no matter what room) during TIFF at Bay and Wellsley is a deal. I can get back to my hotel just as fast as anyone else... It's only an extra 2 stops or so on the TTC and most of my friends hang out in the bloor and bathurst area, so I'm going to going up that way anyway...

Normally I wouldn't even bother to book a hotel in Toronto, as I know the city very well and have a lot of friends there, but since I will be traveling with the gf, I won't be couch crashing on anyone (for the first 3 nights anyway).

yeah it can be hit or miss... usually helps with identifying a property though... or developing a strategy

no one else seems to be joining me at the westin harbour... is it ok?

maybe i'll join the greek god and just get one of him harem castoffs ;)

I personally have never stayed there as I live in Toronto. I know people who have stayed there and loved it. I also know that certain hockey teams stay there as well. You won't be spending much time in the hotel anyways besides to sleep.

My parents have stayed there, they said it was really nice; however, you will pay of every extra little thing there - parking, internet, etc, etc...

They got it when they booked through hotwire for dirt cheap, but their savings got eliminated by the time they parked the car and dad had to pay for internet for work... it was like an extra $50 or 55 a day just for those 2 items.

    you're right i won't be there much
i probably won't be parking a car or worrying about internet either - and the $137 is the cheapest i found... and out of the hotels i considered the westin was probably the best reviewed

i'll likely fly in sunday morning and fly out tuesday morning

i just want a decent hotel... in a good spot

with a good spot being near the venue/preparty - stumbling distance is ideal but short cab ride is fine too

We stayed there the last time PJ played Toronto. We loved the hotel. We upgraded to a lake view room when we were checking in. The view is awesome, the hotel was clean and modern, and the staff was great. If the price wasn't so high right now we would stay there again in a heart beat.

Thanks for posting the info about the Westin best price guarantee. Got the same deal for Sunday
and Monday night also. Hopefully it won't be a bottom of the barrel room.

An extra $20-$25/night will usually get an upgrade. But it's not a tip to the clerk. The Hotel gets that money. We pay THe clerk 20% of every Upsell dollar they make.

At my hotel, $25/night gets you a bigger room, more recently renovated, an LCD TV and a view. It all depends on priorities. If you room is just for crashing - That $25/night might be better spent at the Loose Moose during the pre party ;)

Well you definitely have what you need! I'm glad. I remember by parents saying the place was super nice. That's the great thing about Toronto, if you fly in there's absolutely no need for a car -

also, in case you didn't know: you can get the TTC from the airport all the way into downtown for a single fair. You do not need to pay the $40-50 cab fare. If you need details let me know, I can type them out.

Depending on what time you arrive during the day, the TTC can actually be faster than a cab/airport shuttle... only takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your timing... It's how I always get from the airport to DT.
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
