I hope to come over from the UK, but I am gonna have to be really strict on cash
So, I can only spend less than cd$85 a night, the cheaper the better but I would prefer no bed bugs and an en suite (I know I am a princess!)
Any hints or tips gratefully received.

As per the response I received from the 10 Club : members attempting to get tickets to multiple Canadian tour shows will have to purchase each set of tickets separately. Good luck everybody.

There is a new Hilton Garden Inn. Sometimes their rates are lower.

You could spend 500 and still have the same chance of bed Bugs

Ouch, that is going to be hard to find... I looked on Hotwire and there are 3 star hotels in the $70 range, but they are up in North York (if you're really lucky, it might be on the Yonge subway line, but otherwise it would be difficult to get down to the ACC...) or along the Don Valley (also not readily accessible by subway).

Perhaps try a B&B? Here's one that is ranked #31 out of 106 B&B's in Toronto on TripAdvisor and has reasonable rates: http://cozytoronto.com/index.html . You could try contacting them about availability. It is downtown and either an easy subway trip or decent walk to the ACC (it is also in the gay community, as long as you're okay with that...). I often use TripAdvisor to find cheaper alternatives to hotels

Alternatively, find someone on here to share a hotel room with....

Over here I have stayed in uni dorm rooms let out for the holidays too.
    Thanks for the tip :D

does anyone know what the hotels are right near the old maple leaf gardens? i think last time i saw pj in toronto at acc in 06, i booked a hotel for 2 nights, it was a big hotel near the old maple leaf gardens, and the subway walk was only half block from the hotel, and only had to take 1 subway train to acc took maybe 15 mins tops once on train. anyone have some good hotels for subway line connecting that would be cheaper than acc area hotels please post?

it sucks film fest is at same time i dont want to pay 300 a night for a room that is highway robbery, i go to vegas much times too and i always compare places to that and feel like i am getting hugely ripped off for that, id have a huge suite in vegas with what i want for that

The Hotel beside the Maple leaf Gardens used to be the Days Inn. It just reopened last month as a new Holiday Inn. They just spent 20 million renovating the place. I had a tour their last week, and it looks nice.

The Delta Chelsea is right there as well at Yonge/Gerrard. 3 Subway stops away from the ACC.

Aside from Cannes, it is the largest Film Festival in the World.

The Main dates are Sept 9-14.

If you are the type to look for Celebreties, go shopping in Yorkville, hang out in the lobby of the Soho, Royal York and the Hazelton hotels, and go to the club called Muzik.

Ugh... Yorkville? If it ain't south of Bloor, I'm not interested! (I say that in jest as one of my good friends just moved to Dufferen and Dupont after his gf kicked him out)

But yea, there will be a massive influx of people that week... and he's definitely right, if you want to celebrity chase, stay at the Royal York....

That's the one I hit yesterday with a $120 bid... I put in 3 and 1/2 star or higher (the Sutton is a 4 according to the website) and Toronto Downtown North and South locations...

I made about 10-12 different combinations of bids in a 20 hour period before I got that one...

    hey Mr Merkin

would you say that hotels view guests differently depending on how they booked their room/price being paid?

i always feel like hotwire/priceline gets you the bottom of the barrel room wise

    true or not true?

    VERY True.

Remember that the concept of these sites, is to help Hotels unload inventory it has not been able to sell.

We treat everyone the same (service wise) but you are getting our crappiest of rooms.

Funny... I've never had an issue with anything I've booked via priceline... I mean I was sure that this was policy, but everything i've ever booked through priceline and hotwire has been a very nice room (although I've never dipped below a 3 and 1/2 star when booking through any of these sites).

I checked it out when I was sizing up my bids for this hotel, but it didn't help me out much.

I'm happy with what I got for the price I paid. $120 a night for a room in a 4-star hotel (no matter what room) during TIFF at Bay and Wellsley is a deal. I can get back to my hotel just as fast as anyone else... It's only an extra 2 stops or so on the TTC and most of my friends hang out in the bloor and bathurst area, so I'm going to going up that way anyway...

Normally I wouldn't even bother to book a hotel in Toronto, as I know the city very well and have a lot of friends there, but since I will be traveling with the gf, I won't be couch crashing on anyone (for the first 3 nights anyway).
