okay I've listened to a few DTEs but now pearljambootlegs won't work
it won't load any of the 1998 do the evolutions, but it loads the other years
so i'm going to try again later
but im inching towards the Monkeywrench version to be honest
I'll have another listen after my shower
Do the Evolution - Rapid City, SD 06/24/98
The only problem is that there is not an amazing sounding recording out there of this AMAZING performance. You could tell when they went into this that they had something to prove to people who rarely get to see actual concerts.
Have we used Fuckin' Up in any of the collections yet? That featured quite a bit in 1998

I always look forward to this question.
Next Up:
I should be getting you guys the rough draft by Tuesday at the latest. I have to go into work tomorrow for a few hours to finish up a project that I am working on and then hopefully I can start piecing together the rough draft. In the meantime, relax, rest, and get ready to get busy with the rough draft and composing "Version 1".
Excellent Work as always.

Finally managed to listen to the Rough Draft - my initial thoughts are
I enjoyed it - especially the second half.
I don't think the Do the Evolution from Monkeywrench works too well here amongst the others - the sound is quite different, and the performance sounds a bit flat.
I struggled a bit with the sound when it first gets started, and maybe I enjoyed the second half more because my ears became accustomed to the audience boots.
So personally I would say we should consider dropping that DTE for a more energised version, and maybe seeing if there is a different number from that Monkeywrench broadcast which we can add in - in place of any other lulls, and maybe try and see if there are ways we can 'spark up' the first half.
Don't know, I enjoyed it, and will listen again tonight

I agree, I did not dig DTE too much, kind of flat and dull when mixed in with the rest of the compilation.
The sound quality is not what I would typically go for, but this project sounds real good for a "mostly audience sourced collection" and it takes me back to the '90's and how listening to boots use to be.
This compilation could use a few tweaks, but overall I am very pleased. I believe that when this project is finished everybody will be real satisfied with #7.

listening to the rough draft now
on faithfull
got to say, the beginning of faithfull sent shivers down my spine
i ADORE this version
i had a few name ideas, but i'm listening again to refine and then i'll send some your way
Just started listening to the rough draft. Still have a couple hours of work to do tonight. :( Hopefully I'll get to give it a few proper listens afterwards.
I had another listen to the beginning- and I think it's just I've got spoiled by listening to too many official bootlegs recently. On my mp3 player the sound of the opening track is a bit 'ear splitting' - but like you say Cameron4President, it's not at all bad for an audience source.
My only real complaint was with the DTE that I'd suggested - but we should have a fair few to choose from there.
EDIT: my fault - have got it sounding much better - my player was set to a ridiculously high volume (it has this 'volume boost' feature which is necessary sometimes) - these boots are already pretty loud, so are now sounding great at a proper volume. Sorry

Okay, so after my first listen here are some comments:
Loved Brain of J - very punchy opener.
LOVED LOVED LOVED Faithfull - Had to force myself to carry on to No Way
I understand about the audience recordings, I must be spoiled too. Some songs are fine, like Brain of J, Faithfull amongst others. But there are some where the quality to me just isn't there, or is quite off putting. I understand the restrictions that we face in having no(?) SBD recordings from this tour.
But some particular songs like Wishlist and Fuckin' Up, (possibly In Hiding too) the brashness of the recording and the fuzzi=wuzziness just takes away from the songs.
But like I said, I understand and so if these are the best quality so be it. After many listens I'm sure it'll be fine
Know I don't know if it's just my ears, or is actually real, but when I listen to the Push Me Pull Me we have on the compilation, on youtube, it sounds slightly better quality than the one we have?
It's probably just me, but maybe you guys could check it out and see if you hear it too? Or maybe tell me to get my ears tested
I agree about DTE. A bit of a lackluster performance especially when we know that the song can be rocked I'll have another go at pearljambootlegs.org but it was effin up last night and earlier today
Sorry about the long post
Long story short
maybe some songs to look at - DTE (Wishlist, Fuckin Up, In Hiding)
forgive me if there have already been talks about quality of those songs, i'll admit i haven't read the whole thread :S and I haven't been able to listen to that many versions of those songs either, but I'll have a listen around now
Rough draft playing in the background while I'm working. Got through my first -not so focused- listen.
What stood out :
Faithful ---> this version is just awesome. I reckon it possibly surpasses the studio version, which says a lot given that this song ranks at #3 in my all time favorite shortlist.
Push me pull me ---> nice surprise !
Fuckin' up ---> the start could be 'cleaner', but then it builds up really nicely. The ending is just great ! 'goodnightyall'

One of the problems we have had is that we all listen to these on different devices - I always tend back to my usual mp3 player with headphones - and I pick up on some of what you describe. Part of the problems is the conversion of the boots to mp3 I think - you can tend to get a 'harsh' tone creeping in, which is more noticeable on some tracks than others. I think it becomes more apparent on mp3 players than through speakers. Don't know what the solution is though! There probably are alternative sources

I need to give it another listen, but I possibly agree with DTE.
I'll look into Wishlist again : I have notes about 37 other versions ( that might be -a bit- obsessional), so I might be able to come up with another suggestion.
I don't agree with Fuckin' up though.

i agree about Faithfull
I actually LOVE it , can't stop listening to that version
and yeah listening to it again, Fuckin Up does definitely clean up and become great
Listening to Wishlist again as well, the sound quality sounds better. I think I was just being picky really
okay I'm going to bed now, need an early night tonight  very tired
i'll do some more listening later, but for now all I can listen to is Faithfull
aaah I have never been more full o'faith
I need to give it another listen, but I possibly agree with DTE.

that's not obsessional at all :? .... joking
to be honest, now that I've listened to them again they are actually okay, especially Fuckin' Up.
Wishlist was the other one, along with DTE, that stood out to me. But I don't know whether it's just me being picky again (Wishlist is one of my least favourite songs, took me ages to warm up to it and it's still a very love-it/hate-it relationship )
For me DTE just needs to be a bit more rockier, punchier, bolder, if you get me? Whenever I listen to the studio version it just rocks, a very fiery song. And I don't know, but this version doesn't hold up when I listen to other versions (but again this could just be sound quality issues)

I've been listening with speakers, didn't think to listen with headphones. I'll do that now and see if it is still there.
Have you been able to check out the Push Me Pull Me youtube version I mentioned? Listened to it again, still unsure of whether it's just my ears bullpooping me or if it's for real

Yeah. You'd expect it to be rockier and this one sounds 'tame'. Guess we need to find another one, maybe more messy.

On the gaps for the Rough draft, I think we are getting votes for DTE from Monkeywrench and Leatherman from Seattle (the one mentioned above).

Looks like we have a rough draft now, don't we ? With such a hopeful note to end it on
Sounds like it. Nice one. This is the point at which I ask - "What next Cameron4President?"

Thanks Pres. Good luck with the work. I might piece together my own rough draft tomorrow, if I get the chance - and have a look at what we are dealing with

+1.
Except for the last part. I might ... just wait until Tuesday, actually.
I am making one minor adjustment since I found a better audio source for Boston:

Gonna walk to the supermarket, and listen on the way - so should have feedback later

I believe that when this project is finished everybody will be real satisfied with #7.

on faithfull
got to say, the beginning of faithfull sent shivers down my spine
i ADORE this version
i had a few name ideas, but i'm listening again to refine and then i'll send some your way
My only real complaint was with the DTE that I'd suggested - but we should have a fair few to choose from there.
EDIT: my fault - have got it sounding much better - my player was set to a ridiculously high volume (it has this 'volume boost' feature which is necessary sometimes) - these boots are already pretty loud, so are now sounding great at a proper volume. Sorry

Long story short
maybe some songs to look at - DTE (Wishlist, Fuckin Up, In Hiding)
forgive me if there have already been talks about quality of those songs, i'll admit i haven't read the whole thread :S and I haven't been able to listen to that many versions of those songs either, but I'll have a listen around now
What stood out :
Faithful ---> this version is just awesome. I reckon it possibly surpasses the studio version, which says a lot given that this song ranks at #3 in my all time favorite shortlist.
Push me pull me ---> nice surprise !
Fuckin' up ---> the start could be 'cleaner', but then it builds up really nicely. The ending is just great ! 'goodnightyall'
Edit : oh, and Untitled too. Love this one !!

I think I was just being picky really
okay I'm going to bed now, need an early night tonight  very tired
i'll do some more listening later, but for now all I can listen to is Faithfull
aaah I have never been more full o'faith
that's not obsessional at all :? .... joking
to be honest, now that I've listened to them again they are actually okay, especially Fuckin' Up.
I know .... :x
Yeah. You'd expect it to be rockier and this one sounds 'tame'. Guess we need to find another one, maybe more messy.
