don't know how true that is but it's close, but kinda different to what is on their website:

Ipswich under revised flood threat tonight

    11 January 2011

FURTHER overnight rainfall has prompted emergency services to revise flood warnings for Ipswich residents.

Mayor Paul Pisasale has issued a warning to residents in low lying areas and adjacent to the Bremer River to monitor radio and television reports tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

"I'm told by the experts we are likely to see levels similar to the dreadful 1974 floods.

"At this stage the Bremer River in Ipswich is expected to reach 17.2 metres at between 11pm tonight and 1am tomorrow (Wednesday) which is nearly 2 metres below the 1974 level.

"River heights are expected to remain high for the next one to two days.

"Residents in flood prone areas should make immediate plans to self evacuate, and where possible stay with relatives and friends.

"Evacuation centres are being identified now and we will advise when and where as soon as we can.

"A suburb by suburb street listing will be available on the internet later today and for the media.

"I would ask for patience if residents are trying to contact our call centre. Additional staff are being rostered on and we are currently experiencing significant delays in answering calls.

"Again I ask all residents to keep listening to radio and TV broadcasts and to keep fully informed of flood levels," Cr Pisasale said.

All residents in low lying areas of Strathpine and Caboolture should evacuate immediately. Cars should be moved from low lying areas. The flood levels are expected to be greater than the 1974 floods. Do not stay in your homes please leave immediately.

they are just north of brisbane.

yeah still raining, pretty heavy too. i live in springfield lakes, which is west kinda half way between Ipswich and brisbane city. so kinda right in the path of the flood waters. but we live pretty high here so there is no danger of going under, just roads out might get cut. the neighbour just went down to woolies and said it was pandemonium down there, people just buying everything, there was no bottled water left. maybe i should have thought about getting some supplies. oh well, looks like i might have to do a Bear Grylls and drink my own piss.

AAAHHHH!!! This is where I live but we are not in a low lying area..... people are shopping like it is the end of the world. There are scary predictions, I just hope the floods are not as bad as they are saying.

Stay Safe Queenslanders. Unfortunately this is far from over. It's hard to hope for the best when all the evidence points to an absolute disaster.
Just keep the people around you alive. The rest can be replaced.

    Won't they drown? :?

It's just devastating watching the coverage. My heart and thoughts are with those who've lost loved ones. Stay safe those of you are in the regions being affected.

Oh, and threefish, you could try filling the tub, sinks and other empty jugs and basins with water first. After that, you could drink the water from the tank in the toilette before you need to resort to drinking your own urine. Course, if you want to go all Bear Grylls first, be my guest ;):D Seriously though, stay safe.

I hope all you Aussie people and your families are safe. Luckily my daughter who is traveling left Rockhampton a few weeks ago but she's a bit concerned about one of her friends who is in that area the last she knew.

To watch all you've worked for washed away must be heart breaking but to lose someone is unthinkable.
