it's still raining tonight over most of southern queensland, it's crazy. just so people outside of Australia can understand the scale of this, the area now underwater is bigger the the state of texas. the water is receding in some parts but now increasing in others like Maryborough, the Sunshine Coast and Gympie is also isolated by floodwaters. the death toll is at 13, but many thousands have been evacuated and some may not be allowed back to their homes for at least 2 weeks to start cleaning up and checking the true scale of damage.

I've had two clients (from from ACT and one from NSW) ring me up last week saying they're thinking of me etc. I asked why and they both said they heard on the news that Townsville was now flooding. Ahhh no we're not?! We had some decent rain around Christmas time with that cyclone but definitely no flooding. Thankfully. We got hit hard in 2009 and Ingham just a bit north of me got totally smashed. Would prefer not to see that again.

Feel so sorry for southern Queensland. I was just thinking today how since I own a real estate/business broking agency, my business would be absolutely fucked if I was in southern Queensland right now instead of northern Queensland. All those people's houses, businesses, everything just ruined by flood water. Scary shit.

    Terrible.

Just heard Gidinski say they are doing sound relief 2. I hope they don't have Jessica Mauboy. Shits me to tears how she is apparently an 'A grade' celebrity.

Heard it on the news here and I really feel for you guys.
We had a massive flood on June 15th, 2010 in the town where I work and surrounding area. Death toll of 40 overnight. We woke up in shock and still haven't fully recovered from it.
    My thoughts are with you.
  • yeah i heard it on the news and my thoughts go out to those who have lost their homes, all their possessions. hope it gets sorted quickly

At the top of a hill. Noah will have loaded all his animals and set sail way before my house goes under. There is still a lot of water around and there are places under that I have never even seen water on. Plus with all the water falling and around(we've had 100mm at my house just today, not to mention the weeks of rain we have had) the ground is so wet and soft I've seen some big trees just fall over.

don't know how true that is but it's close, but kinda different to what is on their website:

Ipswich under revised flood threat tonight

    11 January 2011

FURTHER overnight rainfall has prompted emergency services to revise flood warnings for Ipswich residents.

Mayor Paul Pisasale has issued a warning to residents in low lying areas and adjacent to the Bremer River to monitor radio and television reports tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

"I'm told by the experts we are likely to see levels similar to the dreadful 1974 floods.

"At this stage the Bremer River in Ipswich is expected to reach 17.2 metres at between 11pm tonight and 1am tomorrow (Wednesday) which is nearly 2 metres below the 1974 level.

"River heights are expected to remain high for the next one to two days.

"Residents in flood prone areas should make immediate plans to self evacuate, and where possible stay with relatives and friends.

"Evacuation centres are being identified now and we will advise when and where as soon as we can.

"A suburb by suburb street listing will be available on the internet later today and for the media.

"I would ask for patience if residents are trying to contact our call centre. Additional staff are being rostered on and we are currently experiencing significant delays in answering calls.

"Again I ask all residents to keep listening to radio and TV broadcasts and to keep fully informed of flood levels," Cr Pisasale said.

To find out the latest information on dam releases call 1800 613 122 or visit http://www.watergrid.com.au/

For road and traffic information visit http://www.131940.qld.gov.au/ or the RACQ.

Keep up to date with the latest weather warnings at www.bom.gov.au/qld

Local radio stations are also providing regular traffic and weather updates.

ok so maybe it is now getting out of control

    Via facebook
All residents in low lying areas of Strathpine and Caboolture should evacuate immediately. Cars should be moved from low lying areas. The flood levels are expected to be greater than the 1974 floods. Do not stay in your homes please leave immediately.

they are just north of brisbane.
