They are predicting 19,000 homes will go under, and 40,000 homes total will be affected. There is water starting to fill the field at suncorp stadium. Suburbs on the river probably 10 or 15 minutes down the road from me are being evacuated.

There are some dark clouds forming I hope there is no more rain coming, but even if it stays dry it's not gonna stop the river peaking tomorrow.

I don't know how much longer I can watch this, its heart breaking.

Yeah, I just heard Anna Bligh saying just because there is no rain right now, don't think it's over...because the damage has been done and the water is on its way. I bet there would have been people thinking "yeah, we're right -- blue skies!!"

I saw Sean Mont offering his house on Facebook to anyone who needs it. He's a good boy.

How do I donate? EDIT: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html

Years ago for the Tsunami Appeal where Australia donated a SHITLOAD of money, you could donate via the phone and get the donation added onto your phone bill. That's how I donated. I thought that was a great way to donate. Some people don't feel comfortable using credit cards over phone/online, or they have direct debits coming out and not sure if they have enough money on their card, they don't have online access, have good intentions but never get around to going to a bank/shop to donate etc. There are so many reasons why people never get around to donating....but adding it onto your phone bill is PERFECT and allows people to donate a bit more because they have longer to pay it!

They have opened up QSAC stadium where pearl jam played in 09 as an emergency evacuation centre. There are reports that part of suncorp stadium is now on fire after a sub station shorted out, but it has been unconfirmed.

Just the amount it was risen since about 8am is unbelievable, if it keeps rising at this rate til it peaks tomorrow, I just can't comprehend how high it's gonna get.

I wasn't in the room before but I thought I heard Anna Bligh say that a wharf restaurant is sinking? Did anyone hear her say that?

Yeah, oxley's is a floating restaurant on the river near milton, it is attached to the bank by heavy cables but with the rising wasted is it being pulled under.

They are also concerned by a big boat called "the island"(http://www.theisland.net.au/). It is a former barge that is now a party boat. It is mored at west end and is apparently going under.

Part of south bank is now under water. They just said that part of the goodwill bridge which is a walking bridge across the river has been damaged by floating boats and pontoons and may collapse.

:o:o My hubby and I stayed in the South Bank a couple of years ago and we just loved it. That's so sad, such lovely people too. I heard Queen's Street is dead too, normally very busy isn't it?

Wow, you were quick with that report on the fire at the stadium Ziggy, I only just heard that on Sky about 5 seconds ago! You should on there reporting instead! :D

yeah, The Qld police seem to be reporting things happing on facebook/twitter quicker then news media, everything i've read on the police facebook page has then been reported on the news a few minutes later

and most of the city have been evacuated and had power cut so i would be a ghost town in there. but there are a lot of residential building in the city also, so i'm assuming alot of people will be in high rises with no power.

the fire at suncorp has been downgraded to just a generator fire. the stadium itself is flooded but ok. it looks like a big rectangle swimming pool. :(

yeah, that's what i said above(well the previous page now), it's also know as oxley's on the river. i just saw some shots of it floating past the city on its way to the story bridge. which would have been a while ago as it is now well past newstead

they are still keeping an eye on "the Island" too. if it comes loose it will cause some major damage, it's a pretty big boat/barge.

Kevin Pietersen has offered to auction off a shirt and bat he used during England's Ashes triumph with the highest bidder also rewarded with flights and accommodation and two tickets for the Perth one-day international as the England batsman looks to raise money for the Queensland flood victims.

Pietersen has been touched by the widespread flooding which has devastated communities throughout Queensland.

Flash floods have swept through Toowoomba in the north-east of the state, killing at least eight people and leaving 11 others missing.

Pietersen is currently preparing for England's one-day internationals and Twenty20 matches against Australia after being part of the squad that retained the Ashes with a thumping 3-1 series win.

The 30-year-old initially said on his Twitter site: "These floods in Queensland are horrific!! Is there anything we as sportsmen could do to help?? Thoughts??"

He added: "Thanks for all your suggestions... Gotta try and help people!! This is so sad!!"

Pietersen then tweeted: "I'm prepared to auction off one of my Ashes winning shirts & one of my bats personalised to the highest bidder.. Let me find a way of doing this today!! I'll get back to you."

Less than an hour later he tweeted again: "My auction gets better! On top of the bat & shirt, I will give 2 tickets to our Perth ODI on 6 Feb and I will pay for flights & 2 nights accom(modation) to the highest bidder from anywhere in the world.

"I will find a way of working the auction in the next 24hrs so if you wanna help the Queensland flood victims, please wait for the info."
It is not the first time Pietersen has raised money for charity having also grown a moustache for Movember, the campaign which raises funds for prostate cancer charities.

    :clap::clap::clap:

Gotta say, changes my opinion of him... (slightly)

I heard Jimmy Barnes is trying to organise an Itunes album with proceeds going toward the disaster. It has a EJ on there too (I think). It would be cool if Ed could get the City of Ruins song on there or something...

 :D Hope it wasn't take-away for the snake

Mr Gelach said a friend who had been affected by many floods told him animals often helped each other out during disasters.

"It's quite common when you have animals in floods or fires or disasters, they actually get together and don't do anything," he said.

My friend just came back from safari in South Africa. She told me of an incident where a hippo had aided a small impala across a flooded river and then returned and aided a small buffalo across too. Pretty amazing.

I'm so sorry for you Queensland Aussies. The news footage is unbelievable with the buildings, boats, etc. hitting the bridges, and the vehicles flying along hitting trees and bridges. I can't imagine how long it will take for things to get back to normal. This past Spring Nashville, TN was flooded and there are still businesses that have not reopened. And the Oz flooding would be across a hundred times bigger area I guess. And most importantly the lives that have been lost, the people that are displaced, and the destruction of the environment/wildlife.

Last I heard, 43 still unaccounted for and 13 dead. I saw them escorting that big concrete walk way down the river with these two little tug boats, unbelievable!! I really hope they find those people have just up and left and not told anyone or they are just waiting it out safely. :?
