I guess I'm not surprised at all the bitching (look at us...we do this about everything), but I'm willing to do it. Its $50 to: have a chance at the best seats for shows with your favorite band and get a limited edition vinyl, t-shirt, MP3, bootleg shows and discounts for merchandise for your favorite band. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
And hey, the Rolling Stones fan club is $100 and all that gets you is a chance to buy tickets. I don't think this is that bad of a deal...1998-06-30 Minneapolis

For those of you that joined early (91-95): How many of you guys had a record player back then?
I only ask this because I know when I joined I did not own a record player, making my "holiday" single useless! That's right kids, I paid $15 dollars every year for a CHANCE at getting concert tickets and a piece of vinyl, without complaining.
Now I realize record players are back in style. In fact, I purchased one a few years back. But, how many of you have a record player today and actually listen to the "annual" single? If they offered this years ago, I would have been grateful to get an MP3 version of the single and ACTUALLY get to hear the song!
I realize some of these complaints come from personal experiences, but I have never been given a reason to complain and will gladly pay for a rare vinyl single and shirt. I have always been able to get tickets to shows with great seats and receive my orders on time. I guess I'm sort of wondering; what more do you guys want? The next time they tour, do this: Jump on Ebay, look for tickets, ANY shirt and holiday single and tell me $40 isn't a deal.
I do however own a record player now and play the Christmas singles at least once a year during the holidays. And always play the new ones as soon as I get them.0 -

Don't you think you are reaching a bit. If you can't get a flight and a hotel in a week something is wrong. Money on the other hand is another issue. That is why every year I put $5 per week into a jar for a PJ tour and if they don't come that year it rolls over and maybe I can see 2+ shows. It's all about planning ahead.
The new membership It's completely Fan friendly for me!!! Now I get 3 limited edition items every year instead of 1.
When exactly did they announce something big and free?
I didn't want to say that there is not enough time ahead to plan.
What I mean is that they announce a tour piece by piece now.
First, they announce the East Coast tour. So fans from the westcoast or the south (sorry for you guys!) don't know if the band will also come to their area, or if this is it. Questions about this don't get answered.
So these fans buy tickets for the concerts, fearing this is it. Next to the ticket price, they have to pay for travel expenses.
A few weeks later, the West Coast tour is announced.
Since they know they have fanatic fans, this way of announcing a tour is very poor in my eyes.
Early PJ could announce a complete tour, every other band can do it. What's the problem?
As for the big and free thing, they announced it a couple of years ago i think.Post edited by William Wallace on0 -

R.E.M. fanclub is great, and it is only $10 ($12 for international fans).0 -

I think this is the way it's going to be. I think the days of huge year round tours are gone for this band for the forseeable future. The boys have young kids and probably don't want to be away for long periods of time, especially now that they don't have to because they are so set financially. They also have other projects they all do now which take at least half of the year up. If you buy tickets to the northeast and you aren't from there who cares......Enjoy the show!!! I've traveled south to see them with no complaints besides the crowds not being as good.Member 164xxx

They should expect they'll have a lot of questions asked of them, especially if they're going to post an announcement like this as they're walking out the office for a holiday weekend.redrock wrote:RedMosquito22 wrote:When exactly did they announce something big and free?

It's been 5+ years... shortly after they announced the only US appearance for Pearl Jam in 2005 would be the club shows at the Borgata. Two shows in a small venue which 10 club could only secure a handful of tickets for, pissed everyone off because of the ridiculous face price of the tickets, along with the pricing in the secondary market. 10 Club posted their heartfelt apology and promised something "big, bold and free" in the coming year.0 -

Of course the shows were going to be expensive, it's a small venue. Hell you pay close to $90 per ticket now and its a 20,000+ arena.Member 164xxx

But this is no reason for this shitty way of announcing a tour leg by leg, without letting the fans know what the plan is.
And of course it is fun travelling to see the band. But not everybody has the money to do so without regreting it afterwards. A lot of fans are addicted, and chose Pearl jam over money. And they are not happy when the band plays in their area a couple of weeks later.
I know it's their free choice, and it seems like a luxury problem. But theses things could easily be avoided.0 -

And a good way to avoid that is to not play the smallest venue possible for the only two planned US shows.
And you've missed the point. The 10 Club brought "big, bold and free" to the table, and their way of communicating to the fan base that they can't produce it is to ignore it.0 -

Ask anyone who was there if they would rather have seen Ed in a stadium over the Borgata. Not one person would agree with you. I didn't get tickets either and I dealt with it. My cousin went and was 3rd row and said it was the best experience of his life. Ed shows should be intimate not in huge arenas.Member 164xxx

this makes me sad.
This should make the band sadder. They make the choice to play small clusters of shows in designated areas of the US, their customer will grow weary of having to seek out their favorite live band by traveling. They release lackluster material and get a corporate sponsor to pay them X dollars per unit, but corporate sponsor has to knock down that unit to $8 a couple of months after release to try and recoup their investment 'cause no one wants the thing. You think the next corporate sponsor isn't going to learn from this?0 -

They choose to do smaller tours because they have families(with small children) and don't need to tour for a year straight to make money anymore. They don't want to be away that much. What is wrong with that? If they wanted to be popular they would have made more than one real music video. Trust me touring less isn't hurting these guys financially.Member 164xxx

I only have to ask myself, because I was there. It was a Pearl Jam show, not Ed solo. And yes, I would have preferred it in an arena with 19,999 other people than being crammed in to this tiny room with a full on view of the roped off VIP section they had going, so yeah I'm willing to bet your opinion may be the minority, not mine.0 -

I trust what I know. I travel to less of their shows because of the way they schedule tours. I listened to a friend's copy of Backspacer and chose not to buy it because I did not like it. The "families" arguement is moot because the consumer has as much personal responsibility as any band member.0 -
