The WS sets sold out fast because they were limited to 333 sets. Limited = Flippable.
The TMR set is not limited and thus, crazy WS fans don't want it.
You thought Pearl Jam fans were crazy, you should see how crazy some of these WS fans are?!
As for the record player, it's certainly not a high end player...but it's not going to wreck your records or break after 6 months either. On a scale from 1 to 10 it's a 7. I would have bought it but I already have a player that's pretty equal to the one offered and I have a high end set of headphones. I did get a friend to pick up one of the TMR 7" boxes for me and I'm hoping I can get someone to pick up the 12" for me in the future as they're not available for purchase online.
I think the TMR set is nicer than the WS one. The WS ones sold out only because of the band's name and the limited run. (sound familiar?)0 -

It is with extreme pride that Third Man Records announces its First Quarter Vault package for the year 2011.
As we dictated last year, each year will begin with a double-LP compilation of the previous year's singles. And we really did it up in 2010: the first-ever release by Karen Elson, more Dead Weather mayhem, Conan O'Brien's madness, Pujol, Laura Marling, Secret Sisters (man, let's take a breath here),the Greenhornes, Drakkar Sauna, Thornbills AND Wanda Jackson! Show us a better year of singles and we'll show you some magic beans. And don't forget the snazzy poster of the covers of ALL those records, to put right next to your 2009 singles poster.
Let's make this a tradition.
Our 7" for this package is a sick pairing of two classics by the 5.6.7.8's. These two songs were recorded late in the night at third man studio. The gals asked jack to play guitar with them, after jack asked if they could play one of his favoritesongs of theirs ‘I walk like jane mansfield” the gals then shot into these other two songs off the cuff. A little bit of Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire" and "Hanky Panky" as made famous by Tommy James and the Shondells? Are we out of our minds? this 7" is a cool companion piece to the upcoming 5.6.7.8's Blue Series and live LP
coming in February.
We're sparing no expense for our third item in this package. As a tribute to two folks near and dear to our hearts who passed away this past year, don van vliet and sub pop vice president of sales and marketing Andy Kotowicz. we are ecstatic to announce the reissue of the White Stripes 7" covering Captain Beefheart, originally released as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club in 2001. Finally available again, these three songs ("Party of Special Things to Do", "China Pig" and "Ashtray Heart") are sickly paired with new artwork. If that's not enough, (and really, for you, it should be) we are also making this the first (and quite possibly last?) Tri-Color component of a Vault package. There will be no black vinyl pressing of this single and it will not be made available outside of the package. This will also be the first White Stripes Tri-Color, substituting the standard yellow sliver of our Third Man releases with the inimitable red that we've all known and loved for years. Many thanks to the kind folks at Sub Pop for helping make such a cool thing happen and if all goes right, be sure to buy the downloads of these songs from them when they make them available.
Be sure to get your subscription in before January 31st to guarantee yourself one of these mighty fine collections.0 -

Everybody diggin the latest Vault delivery? Had mine for a couple weeks now. Pleasantly suprised with all the different singles again. Maybe even a step up from last year.
Karen Elson's stuff on there is pretty cool. Nice spooky sound to her stuff. Almost Doors-ish in a way.
The WS tricolor is simply amazing. Cool tunes and the coolest piece of vinyl in my collection, music aside.
Not a fan of the 5678s
Jack posted that the next Vault may be some live White Stripes. Hope they opt for somethin soundboard sourced this time around.0 -

The amazing news of the next package that will arrive sometimes in late June 2011 was just posted on http://modlife.com/thirdmanrecords/blog
"Vault Package #8 posted by ThirdManRecords at 13:24PM
You want the White Stripes. We get it. So for our upcoming Vault packagern we’re excited to present our fans with peeks at the White Stripes fromthree decidedly different eras of the band.
First off, we’re pleased to offer Live in Mississippirn a recording of the White Stripes’ final live performance from July31st, 2007 in Southaven, Mississippi. Presented in crystalline audioquality and spread across 2 LP’s pressed on 180-gram vinyl, this recording is (arguably) the band at the top of their game. With thelocal geography looming large on their minds, the set list is decidedlyheavy on the blues and features covers of songs by Robert Johnson, SonHouse and Leadbelly. The rest of the set includes songs from all six ofthe White Stripes’ studio albums and the show is offered in itsentirety.
Our 7” this quarter features some of the earliestrecordings the White Stripes ever made. The a-side is a haunting, starkversion of “Signed DC” originally done by the band Love on theirself-titled debut record from 1966. The flipside is a breathtakingrendition of the Otis Redding classic “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.” Recorded in Detroit in September of 1997 a mere two months after theStripes’ live debut, this single provides a heretofore unheard era ofthe band. Although their debut single “Let’s Shake Hands” wouldn’t bereleased for another eight months, this recording shows how fully-formedrn the general idea, aesthetic and approach of the White Stripes was fromthe very start.
The final component of this collection is a DVD entitled Under Moorhead Lights All Fargo Night.rn Recorded at Ralph’s Corner Bar in Moorhead, Minnesota on June 13th,2000, this previously unseen footage captures the band immediatelyfollowing the release of their sophomore album De Stijl on whatwas their first extended bout of touring across the United States.Performing for only a handful of people, the show is heavy on the band’srn earlier material with a spirited cover of Iggy Pop’s “I’m Bored” beingof particular excitement and note.
