For one I doubt it's free, you pay through your taxes just as we do. Also I don't see this bill as universal health care, or UHC as you and I have.

Of course we pay taxes (many taxes) but I prefer pay taxes but when I or another one needs to be cured that's is free, no one dies because have no money!
I think that USA won't ever have a universal health care, but i don't understand why. That's all.

No UHC in the states is due to $$$$$ I suspect.

Mr. Obama has promised to secure no abortions in this healthcare bill with an Executive Order from him. This will not hold up in court and Executive Orders can not supercede legislation.

I think that USA won't ever have a universal health care, but i don't understand why. That's all.

I also suspect many americans do not want to pay much higher taxes, plus many claim they are happy with the status quo, but who really nows.

He's a lawyer and doesn't know that or he's just doing whatever it takes to get the votes. The only thing I don't understand is if they were sure they had the votes, why does it take so long to bring it to a vote.

So can we get a relatively unbiased discussion on the pros and cons of this bill? I'm trying to get on board here, but everywhere I look it's nothing but people saying "this is how it is" and then someone arguing the exact opposite.

Higher taxes pretty much nails it down for me. I take home 75 to 80 % of my paycheck and I also have very good insurance.

Things I know the bill includes: children can stay on their parents policies until they are 26, you can no longer be dropped or denied coverage for a pre-existing condition, it allows small businesses to pull together to get lower rates, it puts an extra tax on families making over 200k or year (or maybe 250k?). A few things I know.

Now is that your take home pay, or is that 20-25% include sales tax, property taxes, taxes on gas, alcohol taxes basically all the hidden taxes. Here in Canada it's estimated that we pay 40-50% taxes when you calculate all the taxes in.

That is take home pay. I(we) still pay tax on gas and alcohol and all that other stuff. No tax on groceries. My property tax is included in my mortgage, so although I pay property tax, I do not see it, I just consider as part of my house payment.

In 2014, everyone must purchase health insurance or face a $695 annual fine. There are some exceptions for low-income people. :x

Please tell me where the hell it says that in the constituion....

This bill is going to so much damage to this country.

I know I know all you progressives AND LIBERALS just love the idea of bigger GOVERNMENT.

Car insurance is diferent, you may injure somebody else besides yourself.

What will this bill do for people like me, just your average, hard working, middle class American? I have health insurance through work, Blue Cross, and am very happy with my insurance. Does this new bill affect me at all? Is everything going to be the same for me? Will my employer still provide the same coverage at the same cost? Or will this new legislation change things, for people like myself?

It depends on your company. I was eating lunch after softball with my old co-workers. I still play on my old company softball team and one of my teammates is the CFO of the company. We were talking March Madness and eventually Health Insurance and this bill came up. And he told us at the table that in July when the annual registration for people in the company for health insurance comes up in July - start of their fiscal year - that premiums will be going up 17% on average and that they are switching insurance companies because if they stayed with their current company premiums would have gone up 31% because health companies are assuming this will pass and already adjusting rates.

So the bill is doing really nothing for them.

I have heard basically the same thing, from different people. I have heard, when all is said and done, that the cost for MY insurance, will be increased 15-30%.
