Here's what Wiki says about their legacy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_Pistols#Legacy
'Rolling Stone has argued that the band, "in direct opposition to the star trappings and complacency" of mid-1970s rock, "came to spark and personify one of the few truly critical moments in pop culture—the rise of punk."[174] In 2004, the magazine ranked the Sex Pistols #58 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".[183] Leading music critic Dave Marsh called them "unquestionably the most radical new rock band of the Seventies."[184]
Although the Sex Pistols were not the first punk band, the few recordings that were released during the band's brief initial existence were singularly catalytic expressions of the punk movement. The releases of "Anarchy in the U.K.", "God Save the Queen" and Never Mind the Bollocks are counted among the most important events in the history of popular music. Never Mind the Bollocks is regularly cited in accountings of all-time great albums: In 2006, it was voted #28 in Q magazine's "100 Greatest Albums Ever",[185] while Rolling Stone listed it at #2 in its 1987 "Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years".[186] It has come to be recognised as among the most influential records in rock history.[179][187] A 2005 Allmusic critique describes it as "one of the greatest, most inspiring rock records of all time"
...The Sex Pistols' 4 June 1976 concert at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall was to become one of the most significant and mythologised events in rock history. Among the audience of merely forty people or so were many who became leading figures in the punk and post-punk movements: Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto, who organised the gig and were in the process of auditioning new members for the Buzzcocks; Bernard Sumner, Ian Curtis and Peter Hook, later of Joy Division; Mark E. Smith, later of The Fall; and Morrissey, later of The Smiths. Anthony H. Wilson, founder of Factory Records, saw the band for the first time at the return engagement on 20 July.[57] Among the many musicians of a later time who have acknowledged their debt to the Pistols are members of NOFX,[195] The Stone Roses,[196] Guns N' Roses,[197] Nirvana,[198] Green Day,[183] and Oasis.'

Pink Floyd were just so fucking boring. I never could stomach them.
Coincidentally, Malcolm MacClaren allegedly first spotted Johnny Rotten walking down the Kings Road with a t-shirt that read 'I hate Pink Floyd'.
Are you maybe Johnny Rotten?Pink Floyd boring? OK

No, none of them thought 'Fuck that bullshit'. But if you have any evidence to the contrary then go ahead and provide it.0 -

Byrnzie wrote:philthehip wrote:Sex Pistols for me equals bollocks. They all should have been held under water at birth if it had been known what they were going to do.
What they did was change the face of music forever and put a stick up the arse of the establishment in the process. They were the inspiration for some of the best groups of the past 40 years.
And neither the Stooges, nor the CBGB's bands ever ever had the same impact across the music scene as the Pistols did.
I don't see why that makes them the 'best band of the last 50 years'. They were just lucky enough to be the band at the top of the pack when a new era of music was emerging, plenty of artists have done that, from Elvis, The Beatles, the Stones, Zeppelin to Nirvana, Radiohead etc. If you are going to argue the line of inspiration or influence, you would always have to keep referring to the artists who came before and influenced them.
The truth is that the Sex Pistols aren't really held in high regard for their music, they're notorious for the way they behaved back when swearing on tv was seen as risqué. Musically speaking they didn't reinvent the wheel, lyrically I guess they were out spoken, but then so is someone like Eminem.0 -

I find it hard to see how a Pearl Jam fan could find a song like this boring:

Well I've never been to see Pink Floyd live so OTT light shows really are of no concern to me, it's all about the music. I don't know if you even listened to the song I posted but like I said, it features many of the same hallmarks of a Pearl Jam song.0 -

Of course I've heard 'Wish You Were Here' before. Yeah, it's a good song. I know there's worse bands out there, and I don't really have too much against Pink Floyd. In fact, I really like 'Piper At The Gates of Dawn'. Their later stuff just never did much for me.0 -

The light shows were totally a new experience for the Live listener and regardless of whether they had light shows or not Pink Floyd were a far bigger revelation than anything the Sex Pistols did. Floyd had a vision and a journey which worked and it became far bigger than the band. The sex pistols were flying on their belt buckles. No vision at all and no idea if what they were making would work. Yes it did work for a while but the music is not a vision and beacon of its time now. Its now outdated while Pink Floyds music still sounds from the future.
You enjoy your intraverted snobbery without the lightshows and the greatest guitarist of his generation and most other generations for that matter.0 -

The Pistols' relevance still echoes through the music world today.
Pink Floyd were, and remain, irrelevant beyond a certain crowd of nasal-gazing muso's.
So you keep hold of your 'Dark Side of The Moon' and I'll keep hold of my 'Never Mind The Bollox'.0 -
I hate how punks frown upon long hair, a few solos in songs, not wearing the same clothes, not hating cops.
