  • C'mon.

If there was no income tax this guy would have been pissing and moaning about his property taxes. The particular issue he decided to fixate on is not the problem - the fact that he fixated and couldn't get past it is.

What you are presenting here is simply speculation. You have no way of knowing if this guy would've complained about that.

Having just completed my federal tax returns, I must say:

    1. I can understand how an honest, educated person could make mistakes on their taxes.

    2. I can understand how this process can be extremely frustrating.

Yeah, I second that...at the very least I wish they could come up with something much less complicated.

Well, at this rate you're getting your wish. I've said my piece. You seem like a knowledgeable guy, but you know nothing about me personally or my views on American foreign policy. Your biases a lot more transparent. Enjoy them, they obviously serve some sort of function.

Which point of view that I have expressed is biased? The fact that I think western media jumps at close to everything negative to do with Islam? Or the fact that religion mostly matters in news articles if the person in question was a Muslim? These are hardly biases, as there are plenty of examples to choose from. If you do not see this then it is possible that your own biases against Islam cloud your judgment by making you believe what happens in the media is normal.

It is obvious that this bias stems from either of two things: 1) politically motivated as in some newspapers and journals, or 2) sales motivated (because nothing sells –in politics– like a possible terrorist attack by Muslims).

this kind of thing may happen a lot more, sometimes intelligent people are pushed to their extreme edge

I'm not saying that it's OK to act out this way but everybody is different and some can't handle the pressures
justly or justly put on them and they crack, this guy ain't the only one to loose it a few years back a guy killed
him self when the IRS unjustly pressured him to pay a million dollars in back tax's come to find he did not owe.

    Godfather.

if this guy was so intelligent he would of handled his frustration appropriately...as it stands, he's a dead pussy who couldn't handle his shit...

    fuck him...
Fuck him?? Really?? He had issues, no matter what they were they were deep enough for him to take his own life and others. He seemed tormented. I just cannot believe anyone would just cast him, or any person, off as "fuck him". Maybe that is part of the problem. We need solutions!!
For all we know this guy may have served in Vietnam, lost limbs, etc. No one knows his entire life.

yeah...fuck him...I have no sympathy for him or his actions...life is full of choices...he made a few and ended his life (and from what I understand a few others) because he was selfish and felt the IRS should cater to him...

    so I say again...fuck him...

Daughter Says Pilot in Texas IRS Crash Was a Hero

    AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 22) --

The daughter of a man who crashed his small plane into a building housing offices of the Internal Revenue Service called her father a hero for his anti-government views but said his actions, which killed an IRS employee, were "inappropriate."

Joe Stack's adult daughter, Samantha Bell, spoke to ABC's "Good Morning America" from her home in Norway. Asked during a phone interview broadcast Monday if she considered her father a hero, she said: "Yes. Because now maybe people will listen."

Well guess what Ms. Bell --

    3-1. DEFINITION

The DOD defines terrorism as "the unlawful use--or threat--of force or violence against people or property to coerce or intimidate governments or societies, often to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives." A terrorist's activities do not conform to rules or laws of warfare. His methods include hostage taking, hijacking, sabotage, assassination, arson, hoaxes, bombings, raids, seizures, use of NBC weapons, and so on. Victims are often noncombatants, symbolic persons and places, and political/military figures. Often the victims have no role in either causing or correcting a terrorist's grievance.

That is why two F-16s were dispatched, not because he committed an act of heroism, it was because he committed an act of terrorism.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

Yeah, it was my opinion. I thought that went without saying it in every post. Anyway, when I posted it it was speculation based on his anti-government manifesto. But now I guess his daughter says that's why he burnt the house down: "Bell said she thought her father burned his house down because property taxes represented the government for him, and she shares his disillusionment."

here's a poem I received today from my sister, thought it might be appropriate all thing's considered :D

    Godfather.

    I was shocked, confused, bewildered
    As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
    The alcoholics and the trash..

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice..
Next to him was my old neighbor
    Who never said anything nice.

    Herb, who I always thought
    Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
    Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
    God must've made a mistake.

'And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'

    JUDGE NOT!!

Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a
Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

    Every sinner has a FUTURE!

The "hero" post I read said that his daughter - not anyone on this board - thought he was a hero (and it sounded like even she thought he was a hero in life, but not in his last action).

As for anyone who said he was "pushed" by the IRS, I'd like to point out that trying to understand why someone did something is NOT the same thing as trying to justify his actions.

The thing that is tricky here is this...
The Columbine shooters were picked on by the jocks at the High School. Sure, jocks are not the IRS, but couldn't it be pointed out as similar in the fact that both were pushed to a breaking point by an group they could not confront through normal channels?
In fact... it can be argued that the Columbine shooters were pushed even harder since they did not make the choices to engage their adversaries... whereas Mr. Stack made the personal decisions to interpret tax laws which drew attention to him by the IRS.
    ...
Like i said... I don't give the guy pass because he called the dogs on him... himself. He could have decided to abide by the tax laws... no matter how terrible he felt the laws were... and taken up his fight in legal channels. But, he didn't.

Where's the line in the poem about also seeing Hitler in Heaven?
(and not seeing any of the Jews from Auschwitz there?)
    I'm just sayin'...
    ...
Regarding Stack... he decided to fuck with tax laws... on his own. His decision drew attention to himself.
Where the line in the poem about 'Personal responsibility'? Or doesn't that matter?

I don't think anyone's giving the guy a pass. But, in trying to understand what drove him to commit this action, I can acknowledge that having trouble with the IRS could (and obviously has) send someone over the edge - regardless of how he got into trouble with the IRS.

Edit to ask: Through what legal channels are we able to fight tax laws?
