If there was no income tax this guy would have been pissing and moaning about his property taxes. The particular issue he decided to fixate on is not the problem - the fact that he fixated and couldn't get past it is.
Obviously you have never dealt with the IRS
Unfortunately, I have, and as an engineering contractor, even - which is what this guy was.
This is how I know firsthand that if you don't fill out the correct forms the IRS will calculate what you owe for you and mail you a bill
That maybe but
The IRS is not always right
And it is not always easy to get information from them...that’s why people have to hire lawyers....but if you can’t afford one, well then your screwed and they are Right

As to your anecdotal example, I have one of my own...
Back when I needed a down payment on my house, I withdrew $30K from my Salaried Savings program at work. These funds were taxed, then placed into the account.
I took the $30K and dumped it into my meager savings account which drove the balance up to $4nK. I used this interium account as a staging area for escrow.
The IRS caught the descrepency and audited my tax return for that year because it said I owed on the unreported $30K.
I got the required documentation from my company's benefits department, along with a letter explaining the withdrawal. I also attached my 1040 tax return (copies) and 1099 forms, statements from the savings plan, my savings passbook and the escrow payments documents to my evidence file.
Called the IRS and arranged an appointment at the Long Beach office that worked around my work schedule and showed up.
After about 10 minutes... the audit was cleared. I had claimed the interest paid to the savings account as stated in the INT-1099 forms i had received from the company and the bank where the saving account was.
...
I understand the reasoning for the audit... knew my taxes were clear of any errors (intentional or unintentional) and that there was nothing to fear... collected the proper documents as evidence and it was done.

For what its worth, I agree with you. This sort of act does not really fit the current use of the term (and I am not refering to the persecution complex of people like NoK, who apparently thinks everyone loathes Muslims and loves "white men") ... This unstable individual probably wanted to call attention to his plight, but its not clear to me that he had a specific political goal to terrorize or coerse in mind. This is in contrast to someone like the Oklahoma bomber, who commited an act that IS widely referred to as terrorism. This guy was lashing out, but its not clear to me that he had coersion via fear in mind. The sorts of people who shoot up post offices are commiting horrible crimes, but its not accurate to call all forms of mass murder terrorism.
Do you think its mature to constantly try to bait people? Or perhaps you get off on it? Either way its incredibly lame.
If your officials are stupid enough to think the phrase "link to terrorism" is a logical phrase then that is your problem. The fact is if a muslim had done this for the exact same reasons it would be called a terrorist act, especially by YOU.
Whichever way you or anyone on this board tries to spin the facts, terrorism does not have to be linked to a POLITICAL goal, it could be any type of message. The guy drove a fucking plane into a specific building for specific reasons, killed people and injured many others, to get people to see his message. If anything he is trying to coerce the US government to change some laws. How is this any different to 911? Terrorists drove planes into a building to inflict casualties and get your government to understand their message (which in that case was to dismantle bases in the middle east, stop supporting Israel, etc..).
...Is it impossible to end the income tax? I don’t believe so. In fact, I believe a serious groundswell movement of disaffected taxpayers is growing in this country. Millions of Americans are fed up with the current tax system, and they will bring pressure on Congress. Some sidestep Congress completely, bringing legal challenges questioning the validity of the tax code and the 16th Amendment itself. Ultimately, the Liberty Amendment could serve as a flashpoint for these millions of voices.
I tried googling for it since I can't really link my copy that I printed out and this is what I came up with. You need to scroll down a bit to see the stuff I pasted if you are interested:
...
Great. When Ron Paul changes the Constitution to repeal the 16th Amendment... then, I'll stop paying Income Taxes.
Until then... I am not going to use opinion and debate points justify my not paying my share of taxes and risk jailtime and fines.
You see... I am a basic law and order guy. I like having law and order in my society.

Actually, what's lame is the near constant stream of racial references that people casually toss out there whenever the words "terrorism" and "Israel" come up. If you don't want to be baited, knock that shit off. Its goddamn tiring. I can't stop anyone from posting what they want to post, but I can have a reaction. You want to dub this terrorism? Fine, power to ya. The argument can be made. Why this topic called for a big rant about Muslims is an open question. Me and at least one other poster argued that the word terrorism doesn't really apply here, and neither one of us evoked Muslims as the reason. And I am not American! Shocking, I know.

I am really happy it worked out for you.
In my case it looks as though any shit company can contact the IRS and give false information with no proof....so they and the Credit bureau are not held to the standards we are as they are not required to be accountable. They report what they want and put the burden on the American citizens to deal with it....if they are proven wrong there is no punishment for them at all....Seems to me the two Bureau’s that have the most impact on ones life should have to be accountable in some way. That’s why it gets so frustrating dealing with them.

Who do you think you are to tell me what I can or cannot post? I didn't call you out specifically in my post I posted an opinion (which mind you was 2-3 sentences and not a BIG rant as you say) but you went ahead and called me out specifically as a person who thought everyone loathed muslims and loved the white guy. I hope my posts continue to get more and more tiring for you.
Besides if you cannot see the major bias in the media when it comes to acts committed by muslims vs. acts committed by non-muslims then you might as well be blind.

Well, at this rate you're getting your wish. I've said my piece. You seem like a knowledgeable guy, but you know nothing about me personally or my views on American foreign policy. Your biases a lot more transparent. Enjoy them, they obviously serve some sort of function.
If there was no income tax this guy would have been pissing and moaning about his property taxes. The particular issue he decided to fixate on is not the problem - the fact that he fixated and couldn't get past it is.
What you are presenting here is simply speculation. You have no way of knowing if this guy would've complained about that.

Which point of view that I have expressed is biased? The fact that I think western media jumps at close to everything negative to do with Islam? Or the fact that religion mostly matters in news articles if the person in question was a Muslim? These are hardly biases, as there are plenty of examples to choose from. If you do not see this then it is possible that your own biases against Islam cloud your judgment by making you believe what happens in the media is normal.
It is obvious that this bias stems from either of two things: 1) politically motivated as in some newspapers and journals, or 2) sales motivated (because nothing sells –in politics– like a possible terrorist attack by Muslims).
this kind of thing may happen a lot more, sometimes intelligent people are pushed to their extreme edge
and IRS and federal government are good at doing this to people.
I'm not saying that it's OK to act out this way but everybody is different and some can't handle the pressures
justly or justly put on them and they crack, this guy ain't the only one to loose it a few years back a guy killed
him self when the IRS unjustly pressured him to pay a million dollars in back tax's come to find he did not owe.
Godfather.
if this guy was so intelligent he would of handled his frustration appropriately...as it stands, he's a dead pussy who couldn't handle his shit...
fuck him...
Fuck him?? Really?? He had issues, no matter what they were they were deep enough for him to take his own life and others. He seemed tormented. I just cannot believe anyone would just cast him, or any person, off as "fuck him". Maybe that is part of the problem. We need solutions!!
For all we know this guy may have served in Vietnam, lost limbs, etc. No one knows his entire life.
yeah...fuck him...I have no sympathy for him or his actions...life is full of choices...he made a few and ended his life (and from what I understand a few others) because he was selfish and felt the IRS should cater to him...

The daughter of a man who crashed his small plane into a building housing offices of the Internal Revenue Service called her father a hero for his anti-government views but said his actions, which killed an IRS employee, were "inappropriate."
Joe Stack's adult daughter, Samantha Bell, spoke to ABC's "Good Morning America" from her home in Norway. Asked during a phone interview broadcast Monday if she considered her father a hero, she said: "Yes. Because now maybe people will listen."
Well guess what Ms. Bell --
3-1. DEFINITION
The DOD defines terrorism as "the unlawful use--or threat--of force or violence against people or property to coerce or intimidate governments or societies, often to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives." A terrorist's activities do not conform to rules or laws of warfare. His methods include hostage taking, hijacking, sabotage, assassination, arson, hoaxes, bombings, raids, seizures, use of NBC weapons, and so on. Victims are often noncombatants, symbolic persons and places, and political/military figures. Often the victims have no role in either causing or correcting a terrorist's grievance.
That is why two F-16s were dispatched, not because he committed an act of heroism, it was because he committed an act of terrorism.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.
If there was no income tax this guy would have been pissing and moaning about his property taxes. The particular issue he decided to fixate on is not the problem - the fact that he fixated and couldn't get past it is.

Yeah, it was my opinion. I thought that went without saying it in every post. Anyway, when I posted it it was speculation based on his anti-government manifesto. But now I guess his daughter says that's why he burnt the house down: "Bell said she thought her father burned his house down because property taxes represented the government for him, and she shares his disillusionment."

here's a poem I received today from my sister, thought it might be appropriate all thing's considered
Godfather.
I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash..
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice..
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.
'And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'
JUDGE NOT!!
Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a
Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Every saint has a PAST...
Every sinner has a FUTURE!
inmytree if you are referring to me I honestly do not think his actions were good in any way..
my honest opinion is that he must have been a few sandwich's short of a picnic and we don't know why.

this fella was a loon...and it's a shame he acted in the manner that he did...

I haven't read any posts of anyone trying to justify his actions.
I guess you missed the "hero" post...
and that this guy was "pushed" by the IRS...
The "hero" post I read said that his daughter - not anyone on this board - thought he was a hero (and it sounded like even she thought he was a hero in life, but not in his last action).
As for anyone who said he was "pushed" by the IRS, I'd like to point out that trying to understand why someone did something is NOT the same thing as trying to justify his actions.

...
The thing that is tricky here is this...
The Columbine shooters were picked on by the jocks at the High School. Sure, jocks are not the IRS, but couldn't it be pointed out as similar in the fact that both were pushed to a breaking point by an group they could not confront through normal channels?
In fact... it can be argued that the Columbine shooters were pushed even harder since they did not make the choices to engage their adversaries... whereas Mr. Stack made the personal decisions to interpret tax laws which drew attention to him by the IRS.
...
Like i said... I don't give the guy pass because he called the dogs on him... himself. He could have decided to abide by the tax laws... no matter how terrible he felt the laws were... and taken up his fight in legal channels. But, he didn't.

(and not seeing any of the Jews from Auschwitz there?)

Edit to ask: Through what legal channels are we able to fight tax laws?

Yeah, it was my opinion. I thought that went without saying it in every post. Anyway, when I posted it it was speculation based on his anti-government manifesto. But now I guess his daughter says that's why he burnt the house down: "Bell said she thought her father burned his house down because property taxes represented the government for him, and she shares his disillusionment."
thanks for caring, GF...I was just responding to a poster who responded to me...nothing more...
no need to try and read into it any more than that...
edit: I have to add, I do find it difficult to understand how some can justify his actions...
I haven't read any posts of anyone trying to justify his actions.
here's a poem I received today from my sister, thought it might be appropriate all thing's considered
Godfather.
I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash..
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice..
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.
'And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'
JUDGE NOT!!
Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a
Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Every saint has a PAST...
Every sinner has a FUTURE!
my honest opinion is that he must have been a few sandwich's short of a picnic and we don't know why.
Godfather.
I guess you missed the "hero" post...
and that this guy was "pushed" by the IRS...
I get the sense that you're judging me...
10-4 good buddy...
I think we're on the same page here...
this fella was a loon...and it's a shame he acted in the manner that he did...
Hail, Hail!!!
Where's the line in the poem about also seeing Hitler in Heaven?
(and not seeing any of the Jews from Auschwitz there?)
I'm just sayin'...
...
Regarding Stack... he decided to fuck with tax laws... on his own. His decision drew attention to himself.
Where the line in the poem about 'Personal responsibility'? Or doesn't that matter?
I'm just askin'...
Hail, Hail!!!
I don't think anyone's giving the guy a pass. But, in trying to understand what drove him to commit this action, I can acknowledge that having trouble with the IRS could (and obviously has) send someone over the edge - regardless of how he got into trouble with the IRS.
Edit to ask: Through what legal channels are we able to fight tax laws?
