~ The Kitty Thread!! ~ Take 2!

Ok, kitty folks, my big fat male cat, Mr. Chuckles, recently seems to have developed some kind of hyper-sensitivity along his spine. If you pet him there, he freaks out and starts manically licking his foot. I can't tell if it causes him extreme pleasure or pain. Whatever he's feeling, he seems a distraught, but only when someone is touching his back. Seems like I can feel these litle ridges across his mid to lower back as well.
I've read about a neuroligcal disorder that seems to fit the bill, but I'm not sure. I hear this disorder can only be diagnosed by running a billion tests and eliminating other possibilities. Hommie doesn't play the vet's game like that. He seems totally normal other than that.

also, please, please, please....in the future.....NEVER change your kitty's or doggie's food so drastically. animals are VERY sensitive to dietary changes. if one is to change foods, it should be done gradually. to start, 3/4 old food, 1/4 new....a few days to a week....then 1/2 old food to 1/2 new food....few days to a week......then 1/4 old food to 3/4 new food.....few days to a week....then, finally....make the switch to the new food.
I mixed old and new til the end of the week. I still had old food mixed in when I noticed the extreme scratching. I thought a week of integrating would work- but I now know I needed to do it a lot slower. He definitely liked the new food- but it had such a bad reaction.0 -

yea, my hubby's done the drastic food change on our dogs and on the cat a couple times :? ....and it wreaked havor on their systems for a few days. not nice. haha. i just know the suggested 'best way' to switch is what i outlined above. some animals are more sensitive than others. i do think the scratching may not be at all related to the food change, could well be enitrely coincidental. i echo the sentiments of trying to catch your cat and getting it to the vet! that's really the only way to know wtf is going on. hope your kitty is ok.
i'm still so missing suki. :(
every morning/evening, i have to catch myself....b/c she was always the last i said bye to out the door in the morning/first i'd say hello to coming home from work...she was just always *there*...in her little bed right in the LR, in eyeshot of the front door.
hug your kittys people!
eyedclaar.....i've got not a clue there. :? bizarre.
is there any way you can just call your vet, tell the symptoms, and possibly they can give you some idea if it needs to be explored further? and yea, i know...they always want you to bring them in, yada yada. worst case scenario tho, i am sure you could bring your cat in and just get some basic tests to see it's not some life-threatening thing. after that, if it's only a comfort issue...perhaps you can do some research and get some sort of homeopathic remedy on your own. good luck!
and believe me, i hear ya.....just spent over 1k on my kitty. even her cremation bill is $207. i don't get that. an 8.7 lb kitty costs the same to cremate as a 60 lb dog. wtf?and, they don't even deliver the remains to you anymore, mr. dream has to go and pick her up. eh well....

I'll post a pic of my girl today. She's a pretty little thing.
And yes Ziggy, I'm familiar with the theory of house breaking a dog. But English Bulldogs are stubborn and mildly retarded. I figured out their biggest problem though......they're English ;-)0 -

Sorry about your kitty. I would try and get him to a vet. One of my cats doesn't like to be held. When I take to her to the vet I just deal with the scratches or sometimes wear gloves and a large/baggy shirt or jacket. Yeah just seems like an allergic reaction, but like people are saying o wouldn't change his food o quickly. Luckily my cats aren't picky eaters and haven't had any allergic reactions to anything yet.8/28/98- Camden, NJ

when it comes to him and hair, the feet is the least of my concern.we trim up in the spring and easily fill a grocery bag with hair. he looks 5lbs lighter after we do that.

Temple to cat god found in Egypt
Tuesday, 19 January 2010
'Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a 2,000-year-old temple in Alexandria dedicated to a cat goddess.
The temple is the first trace of the royal quarters of the Ptolemaic dynasty to be revealed in Alexandria.
The find confirms the Greek dynasty of Egyptians continued the worship of ancient animal deities.
Many more ruins of the ancient capital of Hellenic Egypt lie preserved under the modern city, yet to be unearthed, archaeologists say.
The temple, discovered in the Kom el-Dekkah neighbourhood of the city, is believed to belong to Queen Berenike II, wife of Ptolemy III who ruled Egypt in the third century BC, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities has said.
The Greek-speaking Ptolemaic dynasty ruled Egypt for almost almost 300 years, after the foundation of the city by Alexander the Great in 305BC until Queen Cleopatra was ousted by the Romans.
The temple is 60m (200ft) high and 15m (50ft) wide.
Archaeologists found statues of Bastet, worshipped by the Greek-speaking Egyptians as the moon goddess.
For thousands of years the Egyptian Pharaohs believed Bastet was a lion-headed goddess, a relative of the sun-god Ra and a ferocious protector.
But her influence waned as the Pharaohs declined, and the Hellenistic Egyptians resurrected her as the equivalent of the ancient Greek deity Artemis.
Other artefacts were also discovered in the dig, including pots, a Roman water cistern, and the granite statue of a senior official dating from between 205BC to 222BC.
Modern-day Alexandria was built directly on top of the ancient city, and archaeologists say ruins of whole cities, palaces and ships remain to be discovered.
The Ptolemaic kings of Egypt were descended from Ptolemy, one of Alexander the Great's most trusted generals during his conquests of Egypt, Persia and his attack on India.
After Alexander's death, Ptolemy returned to Alexandria to become king and his descendants ruled until the Roman leader Octavian - who later became Emperor Augustus - defeated Cleopatra, the last of the Ptolemaic line.
Leading Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass said the temple may have been used as a quarry in later years, as there are a large number of missing blocks.0 -
My kittyboy is poorly :(
Yesterday morning he started being funny with his food, he'll crunch his biscuits up and then spit them out. It's like he's struggling to eat. We've given him wet food but he's just eating tiny morsels, licking some gravy off and then leaving it. He seems ok in himself, he's happy enough and isn't lathargic at all. I think it may be a dental problem but we looked in his mouth and everything looks fine, his gums aren't inflamed or red and his teeth aren't broken... we don't know what to do :(
If he's no better in the next 24 hours, he's going to the vet-man. In the meantime, any advice would be greatly appreciated.Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

A little sore throat? Does he go out and have the opportunity to catch and eat mice or birds? A bit of bone scratched his thoat maybe? Happened to one of my cats. Maybe even a bigger and sharpish bit of crunchies could do that. He's not coughing like he needs to dislodge anything, is he? Not sure if you can manage a look down his throat to see if there's anything there. As long as he drinks Sian.... If he's still not really eating, do have him checked out, but if he's happy in himself, it's a good sign that it's nothing serious.0

Thanks RitaHe's not coughing or retching so I assume it's not a furball. We gave him some watered down milk last night and he seemed to really enjoy that, he even hoarsely mieowed afterward, but he just won't eat anything substantial. I'm going to see if I can get a torch and look down his throat tonight. If it is a sore throat or a scratch, how long do I give it before I get worried and take him to the vet-man? :?

I wouldn't want to say, Sian. When it happened to Dookie, I called the vet who said to give it a couple of days as he did not have a temperature and he was drinking and licking up anything liquid along with the gravy of the soft food. Also, like yours, he was his 'normal self'. She knows Dookie likes to crunch mice and birds so she figured a scratch. The next day he was back to stuffing his face.
But you know your kitty. If it were mine, I would just keep an eye on him - as long as he is his usual self.....0 -

Well I just spoke to the vet and they asked how long it'd been like this, I said about two days and she said to bring him in for a check over. We're gonna take him this afternoon... It's better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks for your advice Rita, it's put my mind at ease a bit... I was a wreck this morning!
