  • Rita - In response to your last post on the last board, alas no, we won't be taking my cats or Dave's cat when we move. Dave's cat lives with his Mum in Lincoln and my two darlings are living with my ex and his family. They're all happy where they are and I wouldn't want to upset my ex's children by taking their kitties away.
We're making an appointment to go to our local Cats Protection League adoption centre on my birthday to look at adopting a pair of kitties to call our own :D

Actually, on that note... The Cats Protection League, at the moment, have lots of FIV kitties needing homes in the UK. FIV is the feline equivalent to aids but isn't dangerous to humans. The kitties live long happy lives and don't normally need much extra care... they just can't go out. FIV is passed from cat to cat in breeding, fighting etc so to keep it contained, FIV cats need to be kept inside.

If you're a PJ fan, reading this and living in the UK, please consider it. The Cats Protection League have lots of these beautiful pusscats at the moment as they often get over looked. My parents had two FIV cats for years and they were both really loving and happy. Please, if you live in a flat or aren't so keen on the idea of letting your cats out, consider an FIV cat.

Dave and myself considered it but in the new house we have two big patio doors and a back door with a large, cat friendly back garden... it wouldn't be fair. We are however, planning on taking on a pair of cats. This is another problem for the Cats Protection League as again, people don't feel they can take on two cats and don't want to split siblings up.

If you are looking at getting a new cat, please consider these two options. There are lots of kitties across the country (and world infact!) that need new homes and a second chance.

Can't, we want two kitties and he can't be rehomed with any other pet :(

He's young though, he'll find a loving home soon enough :)

Didn't realise your kitties had 'other' homes. Got my first two kittens from a farm (half feral cats but sweet as can be), the next two from the RSPCA and the last two from across the road (brother and sister still live there!).

Will HAVE to post pics in this thread (though my daughter did set up their own facebook page - or rather catbook I think)!

I used to love cats. My sisters cat had 5 kittens. I told her when we move I will take two. So after we moved she brought them all over, just so I could keep them for a week to see which two I wanted you know. A month later,I have 4 kittens! My cousin took one of them.
I have picked the two I want but of course my sister isn't as big of a sucker as me, she won't take the others back. Anyone in the Southern IL area want two kitties?????
There are 4 of them, 2 are grey and 2 are orange. One orange is slightly browner than the other. We have been calling him Chester because he tries to nurse off his sisters(the grey ones) so he is Chester the molester. One of the grey ones(the one we are keeping) is Dr Overlord(great name for a girl). My boys named her. She is named after Dr Who and their favorite X Box game, Overlord.
For now the other orange one, the one we are keeping, is Little Lukin, until I can think of something better. I was thinking Thomas, you know like Tom Kitten.
The other grey has no name yet unless you count "Get off the curtains, quit trying to eat the lamp shade, you know you are NOT supposed to be on the table, quit chewing holes in the trash bags"

Oh here they are, well 2 of them, they look a lot alike tho, the two greys and two oranges.

I have three kitties, though I'm sure I'll end up being the cat lady as I get older.

This is Rufus (aka Kitty). He's a 10 year old caramel colored tabby:

In October, I got two new kittens. Some asshole left them in a box on the side of the road. Someone else found them and brought them to my locally owned pet store, which is where I adopted them from. People suck, but I have two adorable boys to add to my clan.

New picture of my boys, Chester and Lukin. I still have Dr Overlord too. Now I am not sure if I want to keep the two orange boys or one orange and the grey.
We did find a home for one of the greys this weekend.

Got back late tonight from the emergency vet.

My poor Pepper somehow injured his eye that resulted in an ulcer on it. The doctor thinks it may have been in the cleaning chemicals we used to while steam-cleaning the floors today. Ugh. Ointment directly on his eyeball, three times a day for the next five days or more.

Tomorrow/today consists of going to Target and getting all 'green' cleaning supplies.

Thanks Sian, Rygar, Denise.. ugh it was scary! His under-eyelid was almost stuck shut and he's been walking around like a pirate kitty since. Today looks to be an improvement, as he can actually open his eye now a bit. Tomorrow I need to bring him to his regular vet for another checkup to make sure there was no long-term damage.

It makes me mad that he was hurt as a result of the cleaning stuff around the house. Fundamentally I understand that there's chemicals in cleaning products, but I've been using them forever and never to any ill-effect of my original cat Rufus and my dog. It's when shit happens that people (me) begin to see the error of their ways.

At this point I'm basically attempting to end up being as close to 100% organic as I can get.

On a side note, I learned something else of value at the emergency vet; raisins are highly toxic to dogs. Not all dogs, but most of them. I knew chocolate was, but not raisins. There was a beautiful husky puppy who had to have his stomach pumped from eating 4 or 5 oatmeal raisin cookies.

Thanks so much for your concern...will keep you all posted! :)
