Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

I am proud that our president was honored. Here's the email he sent to his supporters...

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

there was a guy who called Obama the antichrist a few threads above, jokingly. then there was another guy who took it seriously so I thought I'd correct him on the whole antichrist thing. just read the thread and you'll see I didn't instigate it. and it's obvious that you have zero belief in God, so what are you doing attempting to quote scripture from the Bible that is from the God you deny? that is biggest cop-out that is overused by people like you and YOUR kind. a pathetic double-standard at it's worst. don't try to use something against me that you yourself don't even believe in. I've been on these forums long enough to know better that it would take over a million miracles to get some of you to believe that there even IS a God, much less that it's possible for Him to be in your life. and you don't know me or who I am, but I'll tell you that I genuinely hope that someone comes along in your life one day that will help you open your eyes to the truth that is really out there. when people throw that off as "condescending" it just shows how bitter they really are. it's not the same as if I'm calling you an idiot. but it's obvious you're satisfied by not even knowing the truth, and I know that from how you said "mother nature or whatever is out there." is that really enough for you? it seems like such an empty way to live to go through life believing that one day you're doomed to death, and once your life is over, that's all. over. what would you really have to lose by believing that there is a God who wants a relationship with you, and who you can be with for eternity when your earthly life ends? why do you hate that idea? honestly, for anything I said prior that may have offended, forgive me. I genuinely care where everyone on this board is headed spiritually. as complicated as it all can seem, the bottom line is simple: Heaven or Hell. it's your choice.

I'd expect plenty of other countries to regard the US as less than peaceful. "Militant" or "aggressor" would be a better description to many of them.

When I said this was an honor for all US citizens, I was thinking of the people in this country who are using the award as one more reason to bash Obama. The amount of complaining about it has gotten to be kind of silly. The way I look at it, this must mean that not everybody in the world hates us, which is certainly progress from the last Administration. :roll:

hmm well the way i look at it is that the nobel committee have lost their collective mind. consider when nominations had to be in to be eligible for this award.., consider when it was obama took office... and consider that the nomination took into account not obamas actions but his very very speculative intentions.

obama did not choose himself for the award. shoot the messenger. not the recipient.
