I'd expect plenty of other countries to regard the US as less than peaceful. "Militant" or "aggressor" would be a better description to many of them.

When I said this was an honor for all US citizens, I was thinking of the people in this country who are using the award as one more reason to bash Obama. The amount of complaining about it has gotten to be kind of silly. The way I look at it, this must mean that not everybody in the world hates us, which is certainly progress from the last Administration.

hmm well the way i look at it is that the nobel committee have lost their collective mind. consider when nominations had to be in to be eligible for this award.., consider when it was obama took office... and consider that the nomination took into account not obamas actions but his very very speculative intentions.

  • the fact he only had one month in office before he was nominated, and looking at the following 8 months, i think it is just far to early for him to receive this praise. this decision has changed my whole thoughts on the prestigiousness of this award. i want to see concrete results, and, we can only hope that this will keep his focus on positive change.

you know, i get why so many people seem to think it's ridiculous to award the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama, and sure, i can see why people are upset over it. what really amazes me is that people are outraged at President Obama.

    reality check to those people...

obama did not choose himself for the award. shoot the messenger. not the recipient.

I get what you're saying. I was reacting to the people in this country who have hated Obama from the start and have been looking for everything they can to blame on him. I have a family member who told me 2 days after his inauguration in January that Obama was "ruining the country." I'm not even a fan but I still had to ask how he'd managed that in 48 hours (most of which was taken up with ceremony).

I posted something similar to this earlier. I think the Nobel Committee should be getting the criticism, not the President. But for plenty of people it's one more reason to declare open season on the guy.

What exactly did Obama do in those 10-12 days to earn the Peace Prize?

Kinda silly really and marginalizes the award. More about attempting to influence Obama's future decisions I think (or maybe just throw visible support behind him to give him more leverage internationally). Anyhow, very strange.

I've been on these forums long enough to know better that it would take over a million miracles to get some of you to believe that there even IS a God, much less that it's possible for Him to be in your life. and you don't know me or who I am, but I'll tell you that I genuinely hope that someone comes along in your life one day that will help you open your eyes to the truth that is really out there. when people throw that off as "condescending" it just shows how bitter they really are. it's not the same as if I'm calling you an idiot. but it's obvious you're satisfied by not even knowing the truth, and I know that from how you said "mother nature or whatever is out there." is that really enough for you? it seems like such an empty way to live to go through life believing that one day you're doomed to death, and once your life is over, that's all. over. what would you really have to lose by believing that there is a God who wants a relationship with you, and who you can be with for eternity when your earthly life ends? why do you hate that idea? honestly, for anything I said prior that may have offended, forgive me. I genuinely care where everyone on this board is headed spiritually. as complicated as it all can seem, the bottom line is simple: Heaven or Hell. it's your choice.

What do I have to lose? Casual sex, drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, swearing, and all the other fun stuff that makes my life worth living. What are you offering? A lifetime of tight ass moral standards that are outdated, contradictory, and utterly irrelevant today. What is sad to me is that so many of you miss this life and all the joys and pleasures it offers becos your gaze is locked on that big pearly gate in the stars. I'm not remotely saddened by the thought that when I die, that's it. That makes the unlikely miracle of me being here for a short while to enjoy this world and the beings i share it with all the more special. And I intend to enjoy that time, not spend it terrified of dying and inventing imaginary worlds to comfort me and use as a hammer to justify what I do to my fellows in this world.

  • So now the Norwegian Parliment has weighed in to support Obama in his bid to re-shape America so it looks like Norway or at least like Europe. Obama has not done a damn thing to bring peace to the world. The Nobel committe said it was mostly his pre- presidental RHETORIC that brought him the award. His attempt to bridge the divide between Muslims and the west, but he continues to BLOW the SHIT out of the Terrorist and innocent women and children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He doesn't deserve The Nobel Peace Prize or any other prize for that matter. What about the regimes in the sudan the congo and else where in that part of the world that are slaughtering innocent people. What has he done for them ? He's our first Black president and doesn't even talk about it.
Poland and the Czech Republic are two close american allies that agreed to have a missile defense system against the threat of Russia, but he withdraws the deal leaving large areas of these countries and the region without an effective defense.
Or what about Castro Chevez ? They got jails full of Political prisoners who are TORTURED,RAPED,and EXECUTED. Has he reached out to these regimes.

There have been many people through out the years that should have gotten this award. People like Mahatma Ghandi who was nominated in 1931,38,39,47, and in 1948 but never Received it. Or what about Winston Churchill, President Truman, Eisenhower, or what about Reagan ? He Liberated thousands of people who were forced to live under Soviet domination. I could keep going but I think I prove my point.

i will answer your points one at a time...
    1. blowing the shit out of terrorists and innocents....okay for bush and cheney, but you complain about it now since its not your guy in office. if you remember correctly afghanistan was the original target of the war on terror that your boy bush diverted from to go into iraq. obama is withdrawing from iraq to finish the original job. i do not agree with this, but this shit should have been overwith 5 years ago but NO!! we had to go into iraq because they were an imminent threat to the world remember? ....

    2. the regimes in sudan and congo were in place years ago. so conveniently ignored by bush. why? there is no oil there, so we don't care about those people. what has obama done for them?? nothing, he has been on office 9 months. he is trying to pass health care and fix all of the domestic stuff that was screwed up by the prior administration. he can't FIX THE WORLD OVERNIGHT!

    3. yes he is the first black president, but he has said on numerous occasions that the color of his skin is not the issue. what do you want him to do, throw on some barry white and ask "where are all the white women?" is he supposed to speak ebonics during the state of the union address? the only people making his race an issue are the ones that believe he was born in kenya and that he is the antichrist because he is brown like the muslims.....

    4. the misslie defense system was not to protect from russia. it was to protect europe from missile attack by iran. russia got mad because they did not want these bases in their back yard. same way americans would get mad if ther were russion bases with missles in cuba like in 1962. read up on this topic before posting about it and looking silly.

    5. as far as the prisons with TORTURED,RAPED,and EXECUTED prisoners, look no further than your own gitmo or abu ghraib. your country has committed these same atrocities. he reached out to cuba because it is foolish to continue this embargo when ending it can benefit both countries. what is wrong with engaging adversaries? look what bush accomplished by ignoring them, absolutely nothing. i am sorry but that strategy failed and that strategy is over now.

    6. you have proved nothing in your ramblng post.

no US president should ever win the Nobel Peace Prize ... not as long as they employ a foreign policy based on profit ...

It wasn't ok then and it's not okay now and how many times do I have to tell you before you get it through your thick skull that I didn't vote for Bush nor did I support going into Iraq

You don't know what you're talking about. Bush gave more financial aid to Africa than any other president or anyone else has for that matter.

Ok I'll give you that one I mis-spoke,but you're not right either. The defense system I was referring to was also going to protect us from Iran's long range missiles.

    5. as far as the prisons with TORTURED,RAPED,and EXECUTED prisoners, look no further than your own gitmo or abu ghraib. your country has committed these same atrocities.

Are you serious ? Do you really want to go down this road again? Ok fine... Yes you are right there were some isolated cases where some interrogators went to far. But no one was ever raped or executed. and Castro, Chevez, kim jung ill have been doing this shit for decades to people just for speaking out against there government.

Even Obama thinks that he shouldn't have gotten the award. If you think he does please explain why.

  • Yeah that was lame of me. I didn't have time this morning to respond so I figured I should say something. After I did though I erased it bcos It made me look stupid, but just so you and everyone else knows... I don't hate Obama OK. I just don't agree with a lot of his policies and as far as the N.P.P goes It's not like he nominated himself. So My frustration is not aimed at him. It's towards the Norwegian Committee.

i completely understand your frustration. i believe the award was a year too early. he has not had enough time to do anything monumental. he has worked with russia to decrease numbers of nukes and he has reached out the the arab world and told them we are not at war with islam, just the terrorists/jihadists, etc but that is about all i can recall off the top of my head. the intentions are there but the action is not there yet. it is almost as if the NPP committe is trying to influence his agenda. we are a leader in this world and we should be setting an example by waging not just peace, but understanding instead of pursuing the hawkish positions that we have been taking the last 8 years. i will answer your big post from earlier when i have a little more time.

Obama has just been inducted in to the Basketball Hall Of Fame!!!!!

    HE DESERVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

But if you question it, it's only because his name is Obama, right?

I mean, you wouldn't question it if it were me that were elected.

The questioning is totally the result of the persecution poor Mr. Obama is facing. Nevermind that he was voted into office less than a year ago so this persecution must have become invasive just recently.

really, that's what you get from this discussion?
seems to me, a great many obama supporters have weighed in here and questioned it as well. it is far too much, too soon!

and i think cate frances really nailed it. he definitely should said he dosn't deserve it and bow out of acceptance.
