  • That was pretty uncalled for. I wasn't attacking anyone...don't know why you felt a need to do so with me.

Because I'm an irritable asshole who's sick of dealing with crybaby conservatards.
If there is just one child whose parents do not want them to be taught that Obama is an inspirational figure, then that decision should be respected.

Oh for fuck's sake. Does that also mean that before they teach about George Washington or Plato that they should take a poll of all the parents to see how they want the education to be skewed?
2-I said the "dear leader" what most people would recognise as a reference to how children are taught to view various radical leaders, in this instance I was thinking of Fidel and Raul.

You're comparing Barrack Obama o Fidel Castro now? Jesus.
3-You can teach about government without making it political. In the sense of 'choose a side' type politics, like what is being heavily debated in this, and many other forums amoung adults.

And how is singing a song about the president "choosing a side?"
5-During the campaign, and directly after being elected, Obama kept talking about how he wanted children as young as 5 to be taught what sex is in school.

Except no... he didn't. He said that children should be taught about how to avoid sexual predators. If you want to debate, please at least open a book, Google a little and learn a few basic facts, people.
  • Are you guys incapable of a mature discussion?

no when you shovel the shit like this...
he clearly stated it would include teaching them what sex was...I cannot recall the exact words he used to sugar coat the description, if anyone could provide that?

Provide it yourself if you want to make statements like that.
  • You do know that what he spoke of in the campaign was that children should be educated on sexual predators so they know how to avoid being victims, right? Right? You're smart enough to know that, right?

Again with an unnecessary tone. Are you guys incapable of a mature discussion?
Yes I am fully aware it was to do with sexual predators, but he clearly stated it would include teaching them what sex was...I cannot recall the exact words he used to sugar coat the description, if anyone could provide that?

Yes. That's a typical thing for a candidate to say. I want to teach your 5 year old about sex. What about that sounds like something a winning candidate would say?

What doesn't? All liberals are borderline sex obsessed perverts... they want 5 year olds hearing about sex so they cn start working their insidious gay agenda on good Christian chidlren, duh

Wow, that's your response? Your rebuttal? With this kind of compelling insight and debate skill, I don't know how we all haven't been swayed by the iron clad logic and evidence of the fox news proponents. Maybe we ought to add an emoticon of a face with fingers in ears singing "lalalala, I can't hear you!"

Thats my response because usually JM isn't even worthy of a response but I will anyways. Anybody with a shred of common sense knows that it takes generations to grow forests, and anybody with a shred of common sense knows that we have been planting forests for generations. You see it's like a cycle if I must spell it out. We are already logging man made forests that were planted a generation ago and when we're gone people will be logging forests that were also man made. Go wipe your ass with a piece of plastic if you don't like it. It's like bitching about global warming and then people climb in there SUV's and go for a ride.....gimmme a break.

  • I just have a couple of questions for the posters that think this is no big deal.

    1. If these kids were singing this same song but instead it was about G.Bush or any other Republican president would you still think that it was no big deal ?

2.The teacher that submitted the song said that she was just teaching the kids about Black history month. If that was the case than why not write a song about F. Douglas, G.W.Carver,or H. Tubman ?

Teacher's cannot be politicizing or educational system and especially in public schools. This is not the only video out there just go to you tube and you will see that there are several others. I personally think this is total indoctrination and that it's wrong.

That's already happened. "The Katrina Kids" were a big huge kids choir that sang the praises of Bush et al over the New Orleans disaster. It played for comedic value on Bill Maher for how silly it was but there was no uproar or big huge stinking excessive deal made about it. Just a few rolled eyes, especially since the kids in question were mostly homeless because of he inaction of FEMA and the White House in the whole ordeal.
I personally think this is total indoctrination and that it's wrong.

And I think you're looking for something to make a stink about. This is just a few kids singing a song. When I was in first grade, my class sent a letter to Gerald Ford who was president at the time and he sent us back a beautifully-written letter that he signed himself. We hung it up on the wall and thought it was cool that the president saw a picture of us. Nobody said he was trying to "indoctrinate" us.

When George Bush was reading "My Pet Goat" to school kids there were no freakouts about "Indoctrination" or "politicizing school rooms." Presidents have always staged photo ops with school kids. But it's only once we get a popular black president that people are suddenly screaming holy hell. Wonder why that is.

could it be that we are EXPERIENCING history right now? i dunno, how is a kid going to relate to george washington carver when what he did has no real impact on their daily life? obama is the first african american president. to me and alot of people that is the most historical and important moment in all of african american history.

the minute we have to get permission slips to teach kids about civics is the minute our educational system jumps the shark. you don't like it, homeschool your kid. its that simple. oh wait, the neil boortz and hannitys of the world have probably already told you that.

No real impact on their daily lives  How many Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches did you eat when you were a kid that age. He was a world renowned scientist for gods sake he discovered hundreds of uses for the peanut. and you are gonna say what kind of impact did he have. I think when the civil rights bill was passed would be much more important IMO. But Im just white *!@$* so what the hell do I know ?

This is not teaching kids civics. It would be different if they were teaching them about the POSITION OF THE PRESIDENCY. Not singing songs about Obama or any other president for that matter. PUBLIC schools are not suppose to be doing things like this.

    1. Not a big deal to me... unless the lyrics to the song were about joining the Army to travel across the planet to kill brown people.

    2. As stated before... this IS historic.

As for your comments... I agree, teachers should NOT be indoctrinating 3rd graders to their political ideology. But, they should at least teach the kids who the President of their country is... and what President means... in 3rd grader terms.
