Such an amazing gig in Manchester last night. Reminiscing about it all now with a glass of wine and the Immagine in Cornice DVD, whilst wishing I was down in London!

The whole evening was so memorable, a great set-list (they never cease to amaze, how unique each gig is!), Mike's Even Flow solo, the 'Uncle Eddie' story, the 69+1 woman ... when the lights came on at the end I wanted them to keep going ... an impromptu acoustic set in Manchester perhaps!

To all those that are seeing Pearl Jam in London, if it was half as good as last night, it will be something you will never forget.

Pearl Jam, come back soon ...
  • Just echo everybody's thought about last night, I've seen PJ back in 2000 at the Wembley Arena but The MEN was something else.

Better sound, better set and all round just better. The night was a little soured by the fact my wife and myself kept having arrogant selfish people pushing in and blocking our view (thank god for the screens) and the constant amount of beer soaking us, maybe because I was stone cold sober as my Wife can't drink for personal reasons but I hate to say it but some people just can't bear to enjoy themselves without beer.

I have no problem with drinking but when they keep gong back and forth stamping on you and soaking you as they utterly out their faces. Maybe some people have to utterly mashed to enjoy the show, me I'd rather enjoy it concious.

This is likely to be an unpopular feeling on here on a forum where many people enjoy to be lubricated during a show but for me it will be the seats next time, yes I am too old for putting up with this kinda shit.

Having said that I thought it was just awesome, Present Tense was brilliant and RVM just unbelievable, the set list was just great and closing with Indifference was inspired. The Fixer & Get Some really sounded much better live.

Great Venue and would gladly return if they play here next year when they hopefully return

Ed, Stone, Jeff, Mike & Matt you guys rocked my world!

Thank you with all my heart for such an amazing night of music!
  • I just wanted to say thank you for last night to both the band and the crew.

Went with my brother, his first show and he wasn't disappointed!

    Great crowd and great show.

    Here's to next time! :)

Was the crowd young or non Who fans because I felt I was the only one who exploded with joy that they did The Real Me. That just put the icing on an awesome gig. Ps MEN sort it out, if that had been a metal gig, folk would have died in there the heat was crazy

Get the Quadraphenia album buddy.. Anyone who loves PJ should give The Who a listen! Eddie loves The Who and righty so. I'm probably considered an old man here @ 44yrs old but I still have more energy at gigs than most half my age. Songs like The Real Me have me bouncing like a kid again. Long live rock

btw.. I agree that there's morons at gigs with no regards for others but for the people who want to stand inert in a mosh pit for 2 hours may I suggest try seating! These are rock concerts full of energy and not flower arranging exhibitions lol

there ain't much chance of moshing at the front!..couldn't even move to scratch me nuts if i wanted to last night!haha..its just when groups of 'merry' fellas come down and try and put pressure on the people who have no where to go. Yeah don't mind people jumping, moshing, whatever but expect to get met with a defensive elbow in the ribs if you throw yerself at me when i'm on the rail ...i'm not really like that..honest

and yep..Quadraphenia...i've alreay text a mate of mine whos a massive who fan..cd is getting burnt as we speak :)

What a beautiful setlist!!! And to think, this whole week I've been singing SK's Modern Girl around the house, and then they go and play it! Ah, Sleight of Hand, Last Exit, The Real Me !!! This boot is mine. Manchester, you are a lucky bunch.

and of course now I am SO pumped for Chicago!!!

Forgot to add a big thankyou to the guys who looked after my wife when i lost her for a while, she was only a few feet away but i couldnt get to her, also thankyou to those who tried to get her some water when it looked like she might faint, an impossible task as people thought she was trying to blag her way to the front.

Got add that i loved being amongst loads of nationalities all having a great time and for the most part looking out for each other
  • My first PJ concert, and it was one of the best nights of my life :) Just absolutely out of this world. Even though I would have liked songs like I am mine, yellow ledbetter and corduroy, I got more than enough favourites :D

    Thank you Pearl Jam :))

Me and my gf was standing really close to the fence in the middle. But when Last Exit started I didn't know what the hell to do. Suddenly I found myself being pushed all over the place, and ended up standing on peoples legs and feet. Never experienced anything like it, and we gave up pretty fast and went a bit further back.

I liked that Eddie told people to take care of each other. If I wasn't almost 2 meters tall I would certainly have panicked. Didn't help that a few people seemed excessively ignorant and abusive of others, and seemed to be on drugs :)

And I have to say thank you to Gomez! What a great band. Had been listening to them on Spotify for the last few weeks, and I especially loved the live versions of Whippin Piccadilly, Airstream Driver and Win Park Slope.

  • Hi everyone!!!

I hope you don't mind me introducing myself here - it seemed as good a place as any! Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Still buzzing from the show, it was my first and hopefully not my last. It was a fantastic night. The only problem with Pearl Jam is that you've got so many great songs to choose you're never going to get to see them all! Two and a half hours and I still wanted more! I think it's great for the fans how they are really mixing the setlists up, as you never know what you're going to hear. I didn't expect to get Sleight of Hand, Rearview Mirror or Smile!! I've seen quite a few bands live and it's not often that you see everyone putting 100% into every song, as the boys did on Monday. Eddie's vocals surpassed what I expected, his voice effortlessly filling the arena. Thanks also to Mike for THAT solo - you make me want to throw my guitars on the fire and give up!
A very memorable gig and an experience I need to repeat as soon as possible!
It's gonna be a glorious day...

That has to have been THE best show I've been too.

It had all my favourites...the atmosphere was electric...even my husband enjoyed it and he was just the reluctant driver initially.

If I never get to see them again I can feel great knowing the last one I ever saw was the Manchester MEN one...of course I will see them again (hopefully many times in the future) but the Manchester one would be hard to beat for me.

Thanks to everyone around me out there on the floor...you were a friendly bunch and that made for an extra special night.

    Love and Luck J x

  • Just got into work after 3 days out and about.

For my missus this was her first PJ gig and for me the 3rd. Saw them way back in the early nineties in Portugal then in Cardiff (Binaural). My wife is from Jamaica but after years of marriage has grown to love guitar based tunes from my many records being played.

We were initially 3 rows back from the centre front stage standing and it all started well, but I noticed a few guys behind me who were a bit 'hard' and kept talking more about their experiences in large crowds than the music. A couple of young lads barged through clearly intent on getting up on the crowd, and then when PJ started it all went pear shaped for us unfortunately. Basically we were pummelled. A guy behind me insisted on trying to wedge his fists into my kidneys and my wife was being crushed. I cocooned her but couldnt move her at all as the crowd was being compressed and pushed around.

By the 3rd song, totally soaked in sweat and with my missus panicked I finally managed to barge my way backwards to safety. She wasnt put off, although we both had a number of bruises. Soon as we were well back Eddie told people to calm down which was good.

Dont want to sound like a spoil sport as they arent a chamber orchestra but there were loads of people I noticed who were also being pushed around and were quite distressed but unable to move.

We eventually got a nice spot at the back but soon discovered that the guys next to us werent too interested in PJ. I think one of them came with his girlfriend and had just brought his friend along. They were tanked up on beer and kept chucking drinks over everyone and barging people even though this section of crowd was chilled.

Anyway, I am not going to moan as apart from that the gig was awesome. I loved every minute. We got a nice spot and were able to appreciate the music. Went to O2 yesterday too and noticed the standing crowd was a lot less aggressive and Eddie got them all to move back 3 paces very early on and told them to chill out.

Hung around after the Manchester gig with some other old skool fans and it was great. We hoped PJ were still around but they had left straight away I think as the coach in the yard was just for crew.

Big thanks to Pearl Jam you were awesome I was so glad to have come along. My wife is now a big fan and wants to come to more gigs although we will have to travel overseas (no problem!).

Am feeling the blues in work right now. Gutted to be back and imagining what PJ are up to probably prepping for Canada and getting flights etc. Would be nice to be having a cup of tea and a chat with them on the plane...alas, back to the grindstone.

Thanks everyone who made our experience so good.

Awesome show!!! Enjoyed every second. The whole band seemed to be on top form.
Great set list, can't wait for the bootlg!!!

Thought it was a really cool crowd. Everyone seemed to be getting onto it.
I've read on here some people had a bit of trouble close to the front, but I was back by the mixing desk & had a really good time with the people back there.

Had a brilliant moment half way throught the 2nd encore when I just looked around the arena, and could see every single person in there was singing their hearts out! Class.

    Come back soon guys!

I saw those two lads...we were to the right as you faced the stage and one of them barged past as he'd just been carried off by security after crowd surfing...I'm all for people enjoying themselves but I've got a massive bruise on my thigh where he barged past...to give him his due he did say sorry...I expect the odd bruise or two when you're that enclosed though.

Mind you he was one in thousands...he's young...nobody was hurt so it's just one of those things you put down to gig experience.

Amazing show, Thanks 10c for some great seats....3rd row on block 115.

Did anyone else have trouble getting their poster tubes into the arena? I bought the poster from the merch stand by the box office and got 101 questions on the way in. They said that they had been told not to allow them in :?

i think if you stand near the front of PJ show then you have to expect it's going to get a bit rough at times. I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen people get up near the front thinking they've got a good spot then 4 songs in they've had to leave after the pit has got into full swing. I often wonder what did they think was going to happen or have they never been to a live gig before. There are definitely arseholes in there but most are cool and look out for each other. many a time i've grabbed someone's who's slipping or look like falling and others have done it for me. I didn't see anyone overly aggressive although I can more than hold my own so maybe i don't notice them as much.

I wonder what happened to the girl behind me with her boyfriend who before the show started said a) I don't really like big crowds and B) I hope they don't start pushing when the band come on.

There was quite a lot like that by us...mostly frightened lasses who had come along to accompany their partners.

I'm used to big crowds as I've been gigging and attending festivals for a fair few years so it's nothing new to me...I can see how someone going somewhere so big and packed out for the first time might feel frightened though...not everyone likes the experience of being penned in do they?...when I saw them at the Reading festival in 06 I had my kids with me...they're not babies my lads (they're 19 and 15) but my youngest really hates big crowds ever since he was crushed at an Arctic Monkeys set at Reading so I placed them at the back in front of the barrier where I knew they would be safe from being pushed around...it's not a pleasant experience if you're not up for it.

  • We were in Block 104, the first time I've been in the seated section for a PJ show.
Before PJ came on stage I thought I was going to miss being on the floor... but I hadn't been to the Manchester Arena before, so once the show started and I saw how many people were crammed onto the floor I was actually glad to be in the seats!

I've never had enough courage (or should that be "enough of a pain barrier"??lol) to stay up close at a PJ show. The longest I made it was Brixton '93 but that was Hell. When Ed stopped the show midway through Even Flow and made everyone move backwards I took the opportunituy to get further back and stayed there! I admire anyone who makes it through a whole show at the front!

From our block the atmosphere was a bit flat tho, there didn't seem to be any die hards who knew all the songs, or at least around me. Next time I'd definitely want to be back on the floor and in the thick of it, no matter how crammed it got!

The heat in the seats was unbelievable tho, was it anymore bearable on the mid-to-back section of the floor ? (not the front obviously!!)
