that is correct. 3 year extension was for 07, 08 and 09 with an option for 2010.0 -
The deal is a no brainer. So long as the Sox can reasonably extend Santana, you do it with no reservations. This weekend we rock Portland0

As long as Ellsbury and Buccholz stay, I say do it. It would mean a fearsome foursome for time to come, and Santana is the best pitcher that is going to be available for the next few years.
Not to mention keeping him from the Yankees.9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.0 -
If it happens, the Sox will have acquired the best available pitcher each of the last 3 offseasons with Beckett, Matsuzaka and Santana.
Serious kudos to the front office and the farm system for that.
Then you pick up Manny's 2009 option, and probably 2010 cause if he produces like Manny, he'll be a bargain at $20 mil, and this team may exceed the Yankees of the mid-late 90's.This weekend we rock Portland0 -
there is no way the twins would be that dumb to trade johan to boston without the sox including ellsbury or buchholz.
but agreed,... if the sox do get santana its just beyond lights out.PJ - 36

It's funny the Yanks used to get all the 1st rate trades and free agents. A major shift occurred when the sox got Schilling in 03.
The Yanks might get Santana, but it's amazing that they now need to "keep up" with the Sox.9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.0 -

Maybe, but the Sox do have one thing the Yanks can't offer right now - a major league ready shortstop. And considering the Twins just traded away their starting shortstop it's probably a position that they would want in a Santana trade.- Busted down the pretext

The Yanks don't have the position players in their system and thats what the Twins want most, more than pitching.
So looks like you'll have to be satisfied with lots of "A-Bombs from A-Rod" and no titles for the next decade. This weekend we rock Portland0 -

So the Twins who emphasize defense and fundamentals above all else, which is part of the reason they didn't offer arbitration to Ortiz and how he became a Red Sox, are going to go with a butcher at shortstop - Brandon Phillips, who barely played shortstop in the minors and only played shortstop in Tampa because of injuries?
That doesn't fit their organizational model at all.
That would be like the New Jersey Devils giving up the trap to play a wide open Western Conference hockey style.
Plus in what world is Coco making 11 million?
He's due 4 and a half or so next year.- Busted down the pretext

actually the only reason u got ortiz was because some brain surgeon decided to get travis lee ..... biggest mistake the yanks made
butcher at short? butcher at centerfield? i mean they cant fill every hole at once
as for coco i have no idea about the numbers maybe 11 mil was the total left on contract? regardless they dont want him0 -

That's why the Sox trade is more appealing. The Twins can easily afford the 4.5 million for Crisp's salary after having lost Hunter and Santana. Crisp is a better fielder than Cabrera though Cabrera has a much better arm and their offensive skills are similar. Both have below average OBP's and OPS's. The Sox are also offering a 2nd everyday player who can fill the Twins hole at shortstop and is their 2nd best hitting prospect and as well as their 2nd and 3rd best pitching prospects.
Now they just may be driving the price up for the Yanks, but their offer is better right now unless the Yankees offer a 2nd top flight pitching prospect or Cano which they have said they will not do.
The Twins are looking for players who can step right into the majors next year.- Busted down the pretext

I love the thought of Santana playing for the Sox. The guys we're losing for him are expendable in this case. I hope they can sign him. We have the money and he's worth top dollar. Pull the trigger.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

True, and depending if we bring Manny back in 09, after 08 either 34 or 54 million comes off the payroll - more than enough to cover Santana's salary.
Also if the Sox do get Santana, they lost Crisp's salary and then have no need for Tavarez who'll they'll probably trade. When all is said and done adding Santana would only add 4 million to this year's payroll.- Busted down the pretext
