One minute Ed doesn't support Nader, the next minute we can't have boots. I don't want to believe he's selling out, but that's how things are looking.

I'll just have a little faith for now.

Yeah, I don't remember EVER reading anything from the 10Club or Pearl Jam that said we were guaranteed bootlegs or photos or anything else. It is not our right to expect everything we want from them. It's their product and they can do whatever they want with it; it is not in OUR control. If you don't like the 10C and what they do, stop being a member.

Touring and records is really all we need to expect as fans. Anything else is a bonus.

Eddie Vedder solo does not equal Pearl Jam.

I am sure there are serious legal implications that have to be considered. It may be easier to just forgo these things than to fight through the legal bureaucracy. It is only a handful of shows don't forget. Ed hasn't launched a solo career here.

  • but hopefully the no recording and no pics policy is because they are releasing a dvd of the ed solo shows...

lol. Serious legal implications for taking pictures and recording? Righttttt. I seem to recall many interviews back in the day in which Ed indicated he taped tons of shows in San Diego back in the day. If you apologists can't admit that things are changing and a big reason behind that is money then you are nuts.

As a sidenote, what was Touch Base?

but vedder has played solo shows before and taping was allowed then. so what changed now? 10c or the band dont owe us answers but i think we can ask questions. the 2000 bootlegs were for the fans, there was tons of talk about how little profit the band made off these. they just wanted the fans to have good sounding bootlegs. by 2005 it was about profit. i think there is some questionable things happening.

you cant say it isnt weird that there arent any vedder setlists or show pics up yet. when on the site itself they include into the wild as a pearl jam album.......

Touch Base was for getting in touch with and discussing Basecamp Productions when they were releasing digital bootlegs. It was only for Basecamp, and they haven't released anything for over a year.

The closure of Touch Base has no bearing on anything. It's been totally redundant for ages now.

Pearl Jam/Ed Vedder are not other bands. What other bands do is their gig. We're talking about Pearl Jam here...

As for how things used to be...THINGS CHANGE (like the music biz, for example). It can't always be the same. What happened in the past may not be possible now. And its up to Pearl Jam how they want to distribute their product...just wait and hope for the best.

Serious legal implications for taking pictures? Doubtful, I agree. But this point has been discussed before and, considering the problems at the Vic, I really believe this has nothing to do with any kind of legal issues.

Serious legal implications for recording the shows? Completely different thing as there's at least a label involved (with all their financial interests), sometimes even a publishing company. In this case (as most of the songs are part of a soundtrack) maybe even the movie company could own parts of the rights.

Anyway, I don't understand the problem with Touch Base, it was meant to get in contact with basement productions about their releases (and, as far as I know, they charged us for them). Now basecamp is down, so it makes sense to close touch base. Most boot trading takes place in "Given to fly" anyway, so nothing really changed. Maybe you have to invest a little more time to find what you're looking for - what a sellout!

Maybe people sometimes should think before posting, it would only be a "sellout" if after the tour a picture book would be released or some recordings of any kind. You have to make money to be a "sellout" and I don't see this here.

By the way ... you obiously live in tapers paradise, in Europe it's higly uncommon to allow recording a show.

  • The lack of communication is the problem. It would be much better if they said "no recording because we are going to release an official cd" or "no recording because Into the Wild is a soundtrack and the studio won't let us allow taping" or just "no recording because the band's views have changed and they no longer support trading."

Instead they just keep changing policies while leaving us in the dark which causes people, rightly so, to get pissed off and question their motives.

You act like PJ do not have contracts. I will bet that each and every member has an individual contract that has some sort of restrictions on merchandising. PJ is a business that supports dozens of people besides PJ. They have to protect those people too. Who knows, I am probably wrong.

If they are not talking everything is speculation.
