At what point is it OK with you to ask questions?

The tour is almost over, at least one boot has surfaced and been squashed by 10C. It seems like the perfect time to ask questions.

Yeah...I was actually the guy who posted the link to the solo show...I guess I didn't realize that it was taboo...

I can totally see the reason why Ed doesn't want a bunch of camera flashes in his face, etc....but taping??

Ed has ALWAYS been pro-taping, and tapers are the QUIETEST people in the venue!! They don't talk during or between songs, they don't yell out "FOOTSTEPS!!" during every moment of silence, etc.

Is it just a coincidence that the forum that was used for trading was taken down at the same time that these sows started surfacing?? Maybe, but the timing is odd. Regardless of what the forum was originally designed for, it had evolved into the main place for trades, B&Ps etc. They could have easily changed the name of the forum, if it only had to do with the fact that the company was no longer involved.

Prior to the "official" bootlegs, the band never cared about taping....even when they were doing covers of songs, so using the "it has to do with who wrote the songs" defense doesn't hold much water, in my opinion.

    Your mileage may vary.

Scott - who is happy to at least have one solo Ed show to live vicariously through, since I am in Florida... :)

Interesting that the show that did get taped and released has been banned at Dime A Dozen, and appears to have been pulled from the Zomb tracker as well......however, all previous EV shows remain up....

    Odd.

As far as the boots go, we were lucky to be paying only $10 for MP3s for so long. you take pearl jam and their unorthodox ways for granted. I remembered when the 2000 tour was released on CD. I went around raving about it to anyone who would listen. Really, a double-disc live album from one of the world's best live bands and it only costs $16. plus, you have the option of buying any show you want so you can buy shows you attended or pick and choose from the tracklists to get the specific songs you want. with what other band does that happen? Led Zeppelin released 3 live albums in their entire 40 year existance (The Song Remains, BBC Sessions, How The West Was Won). I got 'em. payed over $20 for each but they all rock and were well worth it. but I much preferred how I have had the choice of upwards (and maybe over) 300 Pearl Jam live albums over the past 10 years.....ranging from $10 via simple download to $15 for the sweet Binaural tour boots in the stores.

now as far as $50 picture books go, you just don't have to buy one. just like I don't have to (and never would) buy one.

anyone ever consider that they may have simply pulled the "touchbase" section to make way for whatever new medium/vendor partnership they will use for the Spring 2008 tour official bootlegs?

    State of Love and Trust
    Man of the Hour

Whatever the reason I think it will just be for this Ed solo tour. Perhaps it's because he's playing "Arc" at these shows. That song was left off of all official boots when they did it in 2003.

Hopefully it's because they plan on releasing official boots. Anyway, I'm happy with what we get from this band. I have more than enough boots to keep me happy for a long, long time.

Yeah but were those songs written and released in some way (singles or whatever) BEFORE they were decided upon for a movie (I might be wrong about this I'm just expressing the impression I got)? Into the Wild is different because it was literally written FOR the movie.

I dunno. . . last night, while commenting on how great the LA 2 crowd was, he said "I promise not to talk shit about you until I get to San Diego." There were laughs, and he followed that up with "See, this is why we stopped doing bootlegs."

  • but vedder has played solo shows before and taping was allowed then. so what changed now? 10c or the band dont owe us answers but i think we can ask questions. the 2000 bootlegs were for the fans, there was tons of talk about how little profit the band made off these. they just wanted the fans to have good sounding bootlegs. by 2005 it was about profit. i think there is some questionable things happening.

you cant say it isnt weird that there arent any vedder setlists or show pics up yet. when on the site itself they include into the wild as a pearl jam album.......

has 10C ever put set lists and pics up of the individual members of PJ doing their solo stuff? i'm just asking cause i can't ever remember them doing it.

i can't believe you think this band (or EV) is all about the profit. that's just fucked.

Not all about it but much much more so these days
  • Ok and while they do that you can sit here and enjoy substandard service and lack of information.

You do have options available other than just bitching and complaining, write letters to 10c, PJ and EV management about your concerns, record compnay and movie company as well. Or you can just shut the fuck up and go listen to another band that will give you what you deserve:)

The lack of communication is the problem. It would be much better if they said "no recording because we are going to release an official cd" or "no recording because Into the Wild is a soundtrack and the studio won't let us allow taping" or just "no recording because the band's views have changed and they no longer support trading."

How about no recording because the concept of a boot for personal use has become obsolete now that you can just post in on myspace and share it with millions?
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

That doesn't make any sense at all to me. Recordings in the past have been sold by bootleggers. With people recording and freely trading, it took the market away from bootleggers. Restricting recording/sharing will not decrease the number of shows recorded (I'm sure all of EV's solo shows have been recorded), it just increases the opportunity for unscrupulous people to profit from them.

    and what is taken away.........
    ...
    That is laughable.
Nothing was 'Taken away' from you and your selfish wants. It was 'Not being offered to you'.
Like, if your friend decides to pay for your lunch one day... the following day, he doesn't. And you look at him like he's taking away your lunch by not buying your lunch from that day forward.

lol. Serious legal implications for taking pictures and recording? Righttttt. I seem to recall many interviews back in the day in which Ed indicated he taped tons of shows in San Diego back in the day. If you apologists can't admit that things are changing and a big reason behind that is money then you are nuts.

As a sidenote, what was Touch Base?

And I also remember that he copped some beatings as a result of that.

I cant stand when you you guys say this doesnt make sense
or you re ask someoens statement just to sound smarter.

What cant you understand about his statement, it is selfish to cry his eyes out that they might go back to the binaurul way of making hard live cds for 16 bucks.
And he is crying selfish that he cant get pics of ed for free, he has to buy a published book.
What more would like to hear it in 7 differant languages.. I mean no harm but christ, its every debate. You knew what his thread meant you just dont see it and agree with us.

Just like the myspace quote from jefbr
you dont get that ed doesnt want millions downloading his shows the next day from myspace, I mean how hard is it to just read the ten club rules on the tour, like cromiam said, would you like it drawn in crayons and construction papaer.

Why do you have to discredit us fans fro stating the obvious, it just gets all to fucking personal.
What it comes down to is this, selfish people only see what they want too and will discredit anyone to prove their point.

Weighing in kind of late in the thread here...

    My speculation:

This tour is kind of a small intimate experiement for Ed. I think he wants the freedom to do what he wants and maybe fuck up a bit, maybe try some new things, maybe not. But ultimately, he gets to do what he wants and not have to answer to everyone everywhere.

Rather than having immediate recordings and scrutiny from everyone, he gets to be a little more free.

It isn't a matter of "he is doing something wrong" or "screwing the fans." There isn't a better or worse, just different.

And ultimately, fuck it. You know recordings are out there. You know you can find them.

And even if you can't have it today... it doesn't mean it won't be available in the future, right?
Like, at the Wiltern... there was a camera set up at the back of the theater. A guy I met asked the cameraman what it was for... the cameraman said, 'It's for Ed'. So, who knows what's in Ed's head?

Maybe all the idiots with cameras in the audience creep Ed out just a bit.

Edit: I also think that we as a fan base need to just shut the fuck up for once about this type of bullshit... It comes off as immature and ultimately stupid. The band has been making money off of it's fans for ages, this is nothing different... if they weren't making money they wouldn't be considered successful... if they WANT to release something, then they will... if not... then how does it feel to want? Complaining gets you nowhere and makes you look, as I said before, pretty stupid and immature.

And just look at all of the Pearl Jam stuff that is already available. There is a ton more things out there... official from the band things, not bootlegger crap... than you can find for other bands. in other words... there's already a bunch of stuff out there... and if you have absolutely everything already... you scare me.

True, but he wasn't promoting material/images/merchandise part-owned by a big film company, then.
