I always thought the reason for no Ed taping was because of the fact that those songs are part of the movie soundtrack and movie executives weren't warming up to those songs being bootlegged. If that's not the exact reason I think the real reason is something just as simple. There's no great conspiracy being conducted.

Maybe there is no recording aloud because almost all of the songs he plays are covers? they're not his songs.....

The "Official Threads ONLY" section would be good.

This is why I don't come on the Porch near as often as I used to. For the past year or so all people have done is complain. Pearl Jam is a band that can handle the business side of the band however they want. All I care about is that they continue to make great music. Did you ever think that you people that only seem to care about all the other crap are the sell outs. Your the ones that don't seem to care about the music anymore.

You don't have a fucking clue.

For an artist to do a COMPLETE 180 on an issue with no explanation in BS. An explanation is most certainly owed in the case where that artist was so vocal in the past and encouraged taping. I can guarantee you that it has nothing to do with it involving a soundtrack or covers, as many Pearl Jam shows have included both.

Like someone said earlier, they just don't think we're worthy of an explanation, which is sad because this isn't like a ticket surcharge or posters being sold on ebay... this is a hardcore reversal on something they've prided themselves in.

Fuck 'em (to whoever decided to change and to those that refuse to comment on why)

How is it ungrateful that the people are asking for answers? That makes people pieces of shit? Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder are a business. When they change something people are going to want to know why it was changed. It's human nature to want to know why. If Target suddenly stopped selling clothing or offering free shopping carts people would want to know why and odds are there would be an explanation.

yes, they are a business and they don't owe anyone an explanation if they stop giving away their product for free.
the POS comments are based on the nasty tone (see the last comment that says "fuck em") that is directed to the band.
i have an idea, buy something, instead of thinking it should always be free.
i will continue to back them as they have been pretty damn generous for years.

I don't understand why the board gets into these hysterias all the time.
    First it's "There's no announcement it's all BS/MSG shows? That's it?!"
Then it's "Fuck Ten Club they don't reserve enough seats/the seats they reserved sucked/I couldn't get a ticket/their website is too slow."
Then it's "Fuck ticketmaster the presale sucked."
Then it's "Fuck ticketmaster even more because I couldn't get a ticket/I got crappy tickets I'm just not gonna go/all the measures they take against scalpers don't work."
Now it's "Pearl Jam's screwing us over/they think we aren't worthy of an explanation/their setlists suck."
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Again, it's THEIR product and they retain control over it. The band owes the fans nothing other than great music and great concerts. Ed said something some time ago about people always wanting more from him and the band, no matter how much they give..."They want your soul..."

Sometimes things change without explaination...Accept it and move on. Worry about something important...go do some community service for half an hour

And once again - get over your sense of entitlement...

Hey I've never asked for anything for free and have bought literally EVERYTHING the band has made available, so I don't know where that came from.

They were never "giving away their product for free". They either sell it or they don't. Even when they did make it known that they would be selling their shows, they still let the tapers do their thing. That's what's so mysterious about this whole situation.

If you're going to quote Ed, why not use one of the countless ones about how he used to tape shows and how fans can always tape their shows, etc.

I can assure you that I'm not the least bit "worried" about this and I'm sure I'll do more community service this year than you'll do in your lifetime.

And I don't know why people keep saying this, but this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with entitlement. I don't feel that I'm entitled to crappy audience recordings (I'll get them regardless), just an explanation as to why they went from liberal to nazi in the blink of an eye.

Nazi? enforcing no taping rules does not make anyone like the Nazis.

pictures not being allowed = people with cell phones ruining the concert environment.

no boots = maybe with these smaller tours, they just didn't feel like issuing boots? maybe they can't afford the operation anymore?

Anyway, these are smaller tours and I'm not really sure that it means no boots for the future. We haven't seen any announcement yet so I'm not getting worked up.

Exactley, PJ are a band. We all got into them because we liked (or loved) the music. I am sure no one here got into the band because they released official boots, or supported a particular candidate in an election.

The important thing is they are doing some more shows this year, and hopefully going back into the studio. After 20 years we should be very very thankful they still want to make music together. How many great bands fall apart after 5-10 years?

rumor has it that they are going to be working with brendan o'brien again on the newest album.
  • Can't wait. I hope it comes out this year.

Ten Club policy for pearl jam shows is small handheld cameras welcome, small recording devices welcome. Has this changed?

    Yes.

Let me stress that I'm not referring to them issuing "official" boots, as I gave up on that last year.

EDIT: It's changed for Ed's tour. No word on the PJ tour. If they allow it then we'll know who got outnumbered in the band vote.

How have any changes effected what they sell? They sell music, either on an album or live in concert. What has changed, exactly?
