The dude was World Series MVP in 2004.
He's a sure first ballot hall of famer, and frankly he's right about Sox management, they have orchestrated under the radar smear campaigns about Nomar, Pedro and Derek Lowe most notabnly prior to either trading or not resigning them. Now they are doing the same with him...the McCormack incident happened in the clubhouse and was "leaked" to Sean McAdam...other things that happen in the clubhouse stay there....they have known for a while they have no intention to re-sign Manny or pick up his option, and they have been doing their best to make the public think thats the right move when in fact thats only true from a bottom line viewpoint, not a baseball viewpoint.

    awesome player no doubt

the front office is fools for doing these things with their best player
and he is a fool for holding up signs in the dugout

great player no doubt but too much of a clown

2 things will easily prevent them from going to the basement...Toronto and Baltimore.

Plus you can be sure with $20 million freed up they'll find a bat this off season...it won't equal Manny of 2000-2005, but they can find one who can give them numbers comparable to Manny of 2007-2008, and play the field a bit better.

With a rotation featuring Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester and Buchholz all under 30, and Papelbon in the closer role, this team will be a constant threat for the next decade...sorry.
Hitters a re much easier to find than top flight starters...your Yanks have been able to find hitters easily, Giambi, Arod, Matsui...they have howver not dveloped quality pitching (until recently with Joba and possibly Hughes if he can ever be healthy), and for this reason they are an easy out in the playoffs...no true ace.

  • How did I know people would be burying the Sox now? it's not even August 1 FFS. Oh, and the concept that the Sox couldn't have an off year and bounce back to contention is laughable. 2004 and 2007 aren't separated by much time if I have my math right.

That leak about the McCormick incident could have been a player and not management. From the looks of it the players are getting sick of his shit.

Of all those players that you mentioned (Nomar, Petey, and D-Lowe), how many of them have had any success after the Sox let them go? My lasting image of Nomar is him sulking on the bench during that Yankees game when Jeter dove into the stands. You could tell Pedro's arm was a ticking time bomb, and Lowe was a head case that was way too inconsistent.

If he didn't want to honor the end of the deal he should have just kept it at 8 years and not added on the 2 team options at the end. The Sox have every right to wait it out and Manny is being an ass in not honor his part of the contract.

How exactly is Manny not honoring the end of the deal?
He is playing, leading the team in HR, 2nd in RBI...he just raised questions about the future...which is understandable, things got crazy when the Sox started their subterfuge smear campaign.

  • Manny brings it out in people. I have no real worries. Theo is in charge, and that's all I need.

He should know what his future is. If the Red Sox choose to pick up his $20 million option they will. If they choose to let him walk, they will. Even if the Sox let him walk he'll get a 3 year deal somewhere else near $45 million. To act like a child is wrong. If he had half a brain in that head of his he should realize he's actually hurting himself for next year in the way he's acting now.

In the Sox eyes, why are they going to pay a 37 year old guy $20 million when they can go get someone like Jason Bay or Matt Holliday. In their eyes, they can use that money to fill holes instead of paying it to a guy who can only do one thing.

I can understand the fans love affair with him because he's like a kid. When he's in a good mood, he's funny and he can hit. When he throws his tantrums, though, he's a detriment to the team and all around him. He chooses when he wants to play and that's not what you want for $20 million.
