Imagine how bad rush hour would be if our cars ran on flatulence. Can you even begin to imagine how bad that would smell?

Just trying to lighten the mood here today...

Yeah there are some angry people in here! That is why I stay away from the train...people get so heated and they can't even get the point of what the other person is saying because they are so angry or think their way is the only way.

At least your public transportation system is better than the US. The bus system here, in Reno is so-so.I would park my car and use the bus instead of paying the prices for gas. But, you have us beat with $10 gas/per liter.

My family just went on our tri-annual Disneyland trip and for the 1st time, we spent more on gas than we did on our motel! and we stayed 3 nights!!!
    ...
    How bad was that Motel?
    ...
    Kidding!!!
And most of your driving was highway, right? Did you figure our your average MPG for the trip?

No need to cool off. I just think the message is not getting through.
Basically... if you are going to waste... don't complain.

It's coming through loud and clear.

My point is that it does no good to tell people how terrible they are for wasting their own gas. It's there money and gas!

That's why people can't get on board with most enviromentalist. They come at them judging before they can educate them.

If I'm already an "Oil Addicted, Fat American who loves Mcdonald's drive thru" then odds are I'm going to tell you to "F" off when you tell me how to use my own gas.

I don't know why people think I'm angry. Here are my points:
    America is addicted to oil.
Americans are going to have to get used to higher prices gasoline... free ride is over.
Cheap gasoline is not a birth right... neither is driving.
Eliminate waste. Waste defined as: excessive idling, unnecessary drives.
    ...
If you are the person who wastes gasoline, then you should either:
    A. Accept and continue your wasteful habits and quit complaining about how much the gas costs... OR
    B. Alter your habits to reduce your consumption, thus reducing your gasoline costs (i.e. doing something about it rather than just complaining (bitching) about it).
    ...
Anyone who wants to agrue any of these points... feel free. Just don't have a conniption fit if I say, ''fucking" or "goddamn" because I like saying "fucking" and "goddamn". Oh, what the Hell... have a conniption fit... it'll be fun.

Okay... point by point... not necesarily in order...
First off... you don't like environmentalists. I get it. Even though it has NOTHING to do with this issue. Issue being, current cost of gasoline.
    ...
Next... I have a feeling you find yourself waiting in a few drive-thru windows. Otherwise, you wouldn't be so rabidly defensive of my attacks on them.
    ...
Also... you don't like me calling YOU wasteful or addicted. You can justify your behaviour... you just don't want to hear it from anyone else. Especially some fucking guy on a message board.
    ...
Lastly... if you are a "fat American... blah-blah-blah... McDonalds... blah-blah-blah..." then, go ahead and tell me to Fuck off... I don't care. It does not change the fact that you are bitching about the cost you are having to pay... yet, are not willing to change your behaviour in order to get yourself to shut the fuck up, already.

    Simple.
    Profits.
Why should Exxon sell a gallon of gas to an American for 3 bucks... when there is a guy in China willing to pay 5 bucks?

Here's the problem I have with that view. People think if they can purchase something it is their right to have it.

The general public relies on oil in many ways, so when people are wasteful and/or over-consuming it has an effect on the rest of us. This can be in rising prices, not just at the pump, but also for food and other life necessities even for those who do not drive.

There has been gas rationing in the US before, it could certainly happen again.

I have no problem telling someone what I think of them being wasteful, because I DO see it as having an effect on my life.

For instance, if I had a neighbor in a neighborhood where water rationing had been introduced by assigned lawn watering days who was still watering everyday using the mentality that they pay for it and should be able to use however much they can afford, I'd tell them I didn't appreciate it and why. If they continued to water everyday, I'd turn them in.

I can't "turn people in" for being wasteful with OUR limited oil supply, but I can use social pressuring with them.

    Well said....

I think it's all in the delivery.

If you tell someone there a "big fat slob" for wasting food, they probably won't take it well.

If you tell them that they can explore some alternatives to get rid of their extra food, they may take it a little better.

Who's complaining? I'm not. I am simply saying that you look like a hypocritical tool if you are wasting something... and complaining about how much it costs for the stuff you are wasting. it may make sense to you... it doesn't make sense to me. Do yourself (and everyone within earshot) a favor and either stop wasting or shut the fuck up.
    ...
Let me correct you: As long as YOU are calling names. Also, you are so far off base on your 'Name Calling', it's kind of pathetic. I don' know where this environmentalist rage comes from... were you molested as a child by Jacques Cousteau?

Sorry.. still don't get the connection... and I haven't a clue what you mean about the 'other side'.
Hippies rioting in Seattle in the 1990s warning of the pitfalls of the WTO... which have lead to the Global Economy and current gasoline prices...
    vs.
People (quite possibly hippies) sitting is SUVs at McDonalds for 20 minutes with the engine idling and the A/C going full bore and complaining about the cost of gasoline.
    ...
What if I said it was "Blue Collar Union workers", instead of hippies... because the Union guys were up there, too. I take it.. you don't care for Union guys, either.
    ...
Still don't see the comparison. I think you're just going to have to pass on this one.
