Basically, until we quit buying and start refusing to pay for these high gas prices, they will continue to rise.
because the companies are supposed to be competitive with each other. Not collude with each other. "Hey, let's all sell gas at $5 per gallon. Then we can make $50 billion every 3 months, and our CEO can retire with $1 billion packages, not just half a billion0 -
I haven't filled up my new car's gas tank yet, but it holds over 15 gallons, so its really gonna hurt when I go and fill it up for the first time.
It's sad when you get excited because you found a gas station selling gas for 4.29..
Its SO expensive in Chicago. I've seen 4.89 for regular. ughhhhhh :(0 -
I was pissed today when I saw a gas station selling gas at $3.89, 3 cents less than when I started this thread. *mad face*

It's already over $5 a gallon where I get ripped off.
Insane...
A lot of companies are closing down various locations because it's totally fucking up the economy.

I;ve been saying for a few weeks now that a lot of businesses will be closing soon. Deli's, bagel places, etc... It's now $1 for a plain bagel with nothing on it. That's insane. I saw an ice cream truck today that had ice cream bars for $2.50.0

wow, that's insane!!! how many gallons does your vehicle hold??? mine is only 10 gallons and the cheapest i can find is $3.69 in town. if only any of the mainstream candidates were pushing for alternative sources of energy.standin above the crowd

Time to wake up, America. The decades long free ride is over... time to pay the tab.
The rest of the world has been paying what we're now paying... but, they have been paying it for decades. We have been wasting it away idling our 8 MPG Escalades in the McDonalds Drive-Thrus the whole time.
And it's not partisan politics... so quit trying to blame the political party you view as your enemy and place blame where it lies... on the doorstep of the greed mongering oil companies.
Think about it... logically. Do you REALLY believe the oil companies are benovolent entities that care more about your sorry ass than their stock price? Why should they sell you their gas for 1.50 a gallon when there are a billion Chinese dudes that will pay 6 bucks for it? What makes you so privileged?
And when they get their hands on the Alaskan oil... so you can continue your wasteful bad habits... what makes you think they will sell it to you at bargain bin prices?
Time to quit crying and face up to reality. Quit being so wasteful... conserve... and walk that 2 blocks to the liquor store for that bag of Cheetos instead of firing up the family Suburban.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

the folk from the USA cant complain that they have it worse than us
one could argue we have it as bad as each other, as the recent changes have been comparable for both countries
others could say the UK draws the short straw as we are still more than double you when it comes to petrol costs
i think the latter is more accurateDublin Leeds Berlin Wembley0 -
There is a reason why it is called the STRATEGIC Reserve. You know why?
Because... our military runs on oil (gasonline, diesel). If there is an outbreak of war with a large conventional force, such as Russia or China, we will need oil to run our war machine. in the cureent scenario, this means we nust secure the oil of the Middle East. with the way things are over there right now... we would need to send a total force of about 500,000 of our troops. Who'll be left to man the homefront? Montana militias? Crips?
The Alaskan Reserve will allow us to fight a war without depending on the Middle East (who will probably side with Russia or China because of our past histories).
So... quit trying to tap the strategic reserves so you can continue your wasteful ways.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

The reason why we have paid lower prices in the past was because we meddled in Middle Eastern domestic politics to get us a better deal. That thing backfired on us on September 11, 2001. Now, we are dealing with the consequences.
...
Had we been more like Scotland and just bought the fucking oil and quit fucking with their politics... yeah... we'd already be used to high prices and probablty would have figured out economic alternatives to our wasteful ways.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! I drive to work and walk as much as I can. It still costs me $65+ to fill up. A few months back it cost me $35. Why the drastic increase in a few months?
People are mad over the lack of explanation. Not everybody understands the oil market and has the forward thinking that you seem to think you have.

No. That's why I have bicycles and skateboards. I steer clear of drive thrus because nothing gets accomplished by sitting in an idling vehicle. I have no problem walking or riding my bike or skateboard the 1/4 mile to eat at the taco stand. I drive when I have to... I plan my errands to make a circular trip... I have always been that way... probably due to my OCPD or anal retentiveness. And I admit... not so much to do with fuel economy.. more to do with air pollution.
And yes... the increases are drastic... but, we have seen them coming for the past... what... 30 or so years, now? what have we been doing to curb our addiction? Nothing.
Do I feel the pinch? Yes... I do. So... I adjust. I concentrate on my needs and prioritize my 'wants'. There's a lot of crap I might want... but, don't need.
I do feel that we should not rape our nation's natural beauty, so we can continue to be a wasteful oil junkie. Addiction is what we are accustomed to. Withdrawal is painful... but, we must go through it if we want to ween ourselves from this addiction.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Unfortunately, not everyone can walk 2 blocks to the grocery store. I would LOVE to live near work so I could walk. But that isn't the reality right now. I am hoping to move back to Europe next year or back to a city that has a metro system or to a place where I can walk to work again (and sometimes I was walking up to an hour and really enjoyed it--it was refreshing). But that isn't a possibility now.
Not everyone is being "wasteful." Some of us just don't have options other than to drive to work. So no need to be so condescending to everybody.0
