Low-fat triscuits are good too. With some peanut butter on them.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • I don't understand.
Laman's terms for me please. ;)

Fruits aren't fattening per se, but they are not good to take in quantity, or much at all when trying to dramatically shed fat. It slows down the process a bit.

To exclude them longterm from the diet is a bad idea for sure though.

  • You're taking out all the good stuff. All that fiber is whats going to give you the best thermic effect by eating, also makes you fuller on less cals, and keeps the metabolism accelerated. If you're in the single digit bodyfat range with this method congrats on the genetic gifting, and by all means juice away.
Absolutely true. I recently took out almost all liquid calories from my diet, and it makes a difference in how much I can eat and still burn fat. The thermic effect is definitely noticeable and awesome. The only times I get liquid calories now are surrounding my workouts.

Triscuits with part skim mozzarella cheese. That is so yummy. Maybe not so dietetic or anything. But GOOD!!

I haven't tried that yet. I don't think Mozzarella is too high in fat. I eat them sometimes with cheddar cheese. I know that's not too good. I love cheese though.

No one can really answer that except you, because everyone will react differently to eating fruit. Are you losing fat by eating what you're eating now? If so, don't change a thing (provided the other stuff you're eating isn't crap). Just limit the fruit (and whatever else) as you see fit based on your results, not on science.

In general though, I'd say get more veggies than fruit for sure.

I don't know about "Oh...Polly-O is bad cheese" or anything.

Some people on this board are waaaay to radical with their dietary restrictions for me...however...

Polly-o part skim mozzarella on a regular triscuit is like heaven on earth. ;)

oooo...I love polly-o. I don't go to extremes I tend to go by "everything in moderation" diet wise.

I enjoyed my chocolate bunny without any guilt :)

i once read a magazine article that global warming was a myth... i also read another one that said it was definitely happening... its called opinion.

i read one of your threads looking for advice on whether you should play the guitar again after a 10 year break... people gave advice and you shot them down on that thread as well...

you've asked for advice from people on a healthy snack and yet you've read scientific magazines proclaiming 1 piece of fruit per day is enough and that fruit should only be a locally available fruit, etc etc etc.

dont ask for advice if the advice received is always going to be routinely debunked by you every time.

surely that scientific magazine gave an indication of what was an OK snack for you. or ask a qualified nutritionist... instead of asking us folks here on the forum.. after all, we appear to be very unhelpful :(

all excellent points....however, GTD has posted like this for YEARS. this is what she does here. perhaps it's a game for her? think up topics to ask *advice* for, and be able to shoot down each ad every one? i'd imagine it makes the workday pass more quickly. :p

truly, not having a go at you GTD, but you have to admit, if you look at 95% of the threads you start requesting advice, observe them objectively...you'd recognize the pattern. i mean, that's how so many of us *recognize* you time and again. ;) it's kinda fun in a bizarre, twisted, message pit way.....

that said, i too will agree with FRUIT...and yes, LOTS of it! i eat a ton of fruit a day! i also eat a large variety. the more 'color' in your diet, the better. so on any given day....i'll eat a few clementines, a banana....and at least a cup of mixed berries - strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. also, i definitely eat a serving of nuts, usually wasabi almonds - YUM......and a single serving of string cheese. all very portable, portion-controlled and HEALTHY snacks. helps me maintain my weight very well, good nutrition and my skin looks fantastic too. i'd also suggest a good, healthy cereal...such as kashi go lean.....eat it dry....protein bars, even granola bars if you check labels carefully, etc. there are LOTs of excellent snack options. i actually eat the berries/cheese/nuts as my lunch most days.

    I agree with D2D ^
Berries are such a great snack and sooooo tasty! When I go to work at the bar on Friday and Saturday nights, I'll take an 18 oz. package of blueberries and snack guilt-free all night while my coworkers eat Dorito's and slim jims. I like to snack on nuts if there's only a tiny bit in front of me. I have trouble with self-control, so I seriously can't have more than 1 or 2 tbsp. of nuts around or I'll eat the whole thing.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

If you work out 4/5 times a week you should be free to eat just about anything in moderation. Balance is key with the diet.

  • I'm not a "fruity" person, I prefer veggies over fruit as a snack.

I like to snack on green/red/yellow peppers. Cut them into slices and throw them in a ziploc bag.

    Also:
    English cucumbers (more flavor)
    radishes
wheat crackers with sliced avocado (little salt/pepper)
sugar snap peas (yes, I know "sugar")...it is still green and healthier than chips

I like turkey jerky but the only downfall is high sodium so I take a couple pieces to curb hunger.

  • There are a lot of very good ideas being given in this thread - and I know it's already been said about GTD shooting each and everyone of them down - but as she has already mentioned her health issues are so very very complicated that none of our layperson's advice can possibly incorporate all of her various issues.

it is easy to say "eat fresh fruit and veggies daily" and "snack on low/non fat foods" but - reality-wise, it seems extremely unlikely that if taking the advice of her professionals and exercising at the rate she claims she is still overweight, with health issues.

I am not trying to attack you GTD - I am just suggesting that you look objectively at what you do/eat through the day and differentiate between what you "aught" to do/eat, and what you REALLY do/eat.

I notice that in your exercise threads, you often claim to walk/run each day - yet you acknowledge that you wont work out in "bad weather"

Look, ordinarily I would say if you feel good - it doesn't matter what you LOOK like..but you seem unhappy about just about everything.

being obsessive, and stressed over all of the minutia of the day can lead to acne, heart issues, breathing issues, weight gain, insomnia, and a myriad of other health issues.

I would like to tell you that relaxation is the key - but I am sure you already "DO ALL YOU CAN TO RELAX" or some such statement...sigh, I hope that most of your posts are contrary-insidious fun and not based in a reality.

well - good luck with finding snacks that fit your criteria...having an eating disorder is not fun (I am not saying you have one, GTD - I am actually just sharing my own experiences: therefore I don't really need you to comment as if this is advice or an observation regarding you on the next part of this posting) - it messes with all stages of your self esteem and your social awareness. My metabolic rate is shot to pieces, and it has taken me years to deal with my own body's rhythm - I still flounder and slide back into restricting foods...I understand your statements about eating very little and gaining weight - it is an experience I have had, however I was so severely malnourished prior to the weight gain, that I lost much of my hair and my teeth became quite loose.

ok, but she always posts about eating healthy and gaining weight... nuts are certainly healthy but not that great for weight control, especially if eaten by the handful.

actually...ok, only ONE study, but it was considered rather *significant*...showed that eating one serving of nuts per day actually IS good for weight control. had two groups eat the EXACT same calories, same amount of exercise....excpt one group ate say 180 additional calories per day in the form of one serving of nuts per day. the group that ate MORE calories thru nuts actually lost more weight than the group without.

    food for thought.

eating A handful = good. eating handFULLS....not too good. :)
