Brian Leetch received the first of many of the accolades and awards he will garner for his stellar career, almost all of it as a Ranger, when he was one of four recipients of the Lester Patrick Award. Blueshirt Bulletin columnist John Halligan was also honored for his lifetime of work with the Rangers and the NHL in communications. So too was Stan Fischler, a familiar face to those who watch the Rangers and other local area teams on MSG and FSNY. Cammi Granato, the greatest U.S. women's hockey player, and brother of ex-Ranger Tony Granato, was the fourth honoree. More honors are on tap this weekend as Mark Messier heads one of the strongest Hall of Fame classes in memory. The paeans in the press have begun -- see the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. More will be on the way in the next few days. In the wake of the Patrick awards and the Hall of Fame induction, we're not going to bother with the inane debate about the recently retired Eric Lindros is Hall-worthy -- his career will go down as one of the most disappointing ever.

The Rangers return home to face the Penguins tonight, where they will pit Henrik Lundqvist yet again along with their 7-2 home record (as opposed to their dismal 0-5-1 road record) against a team playing its second game in two nights. Marc-Andre Fleury will return to Pittsburgh's net. Ryan Whitney, who always seems to kill the Rangers, will miss the game with an injury. Colton Orr, the popular New York Rangers forward, got an interesting offer late last week. The 25-year-old Orr, one of the toughest players in hockey, got a call from the producers of the ABC reality series The Bachelor. They offered the Winnipeg native a nice deal to be the 12th bachelor, the next single guy searching for true love. However, when the call came, it was an awkward moment. Orr's mother and girlfriend, were in his apartment. According to Doug Orr, the player's father, "Colt's not really looking for love ? It was a great deal, but it's a pretty tough decision. He has a girlfriend and she's great. She's an actress and she's a lot of fun. If Colt's going to do this, she'd better have a sense of humour." The last Canadian athlete to star in The Bachelor was Ottawa's Jesse Palmer, the former New York Giants quarterback. He and winner Jessica Bowlin were not an enduring item.
