People can argue and say what they like but I think the whole band probably questions everything that has occurred under the Bush administration, including 9-11, the patriot act, the wars in Afganistan and Iraq and the current debate about Iran and their perceived threat towards western interests.
You only need to read Eddie's lyrics post 9-11 to understand where he is coming from.
Cropduster:
"Dad, he's gone up flames,..
But this ain't no movie
This ain't no book you can close
When the big lie hits your eye."
Bu$hleaguer
"A confidence man, but why so beleaguered?
He's not a leader, he's a Texas leaguer
Swinging for the fence, got lucky with a strike
Drilling for fear, makes the job simple
Born on third, thinks he got a triple
Blackout weaves its way through the cities
Blackout weaves its way through the cities
Blackout weaves its way,..."
Green Disease
"Tell the captain
'This boats not safe
And we're drowning.'
Turns out
He's the one making waves"
I am Mine
"And the feelings that get left behind
All the innocents broken with lies
Significance, between the lines
(We may need to hide)"
Worldwide Suicide:
"Laying claim to the take our soldiers save
Does not equate, and the truth's already out there"
and finally
No More:
"The lies we were told to get us to go
Were criminal (?)... let us be straight
Let's get to the point where our voices get heard"
Are there 9-11 references in these lyrics? I think so...Does it prove Eddie does not believe the official story? Not conclusively, but I think there is enough there to say he is skeptical of it. Many others, however, would disagree because lyrics are open to interpretation. Then there is "Inside Job", reportedly about Mike's drug battle...Quite a song title in today's climate!+--+-Official Upcoming Australasian Tour:Member #9-+--+0 -

I agree - and hope they and other respectful artists in the states will have the guts to sing it out load and clear if this is really something they believe.
My guess is that eddie have spoken to alot people who teach others about 911..Then one day I`d say fuck fish.0 -
Doesn't matter who believes it or not. To those of us who do, it's clear as fuckin daylight. To those who don't, the rest of us will always be nutjobs and either 'unpatriotic' (if you're american) or 'jealous of Americas freedom' or 'a threat' if you're not American.
Whether you believe in any of the secret society or masonic stuff that floats around... I think it's pretty obvious there is a superclass who, for whatever reasons, work with eachother and for eachother.
Now call me a fucking conspiracy theorist nutjob... and see if I give a fuck. Those who hate conspiracy theorists seem to feel quite strong about it. It's almost like they're threatened by us... cos they fear we may be right!

not trying to stir things up here, but I hope that Eddie doesn't believe in the inside job theory...
Sure the administration is trying to hide things, cause severe mistakes have been made, no doubt. But the founders of those conspiracy theories as well leave uncomfortable facts out to paint a more convincing picture-often times it is close to manipulation. And sometimes it's grotesque how people who claim that the government (or the leading one hundred) is trying to manipulate everyobdy and hiding the truth follow people who use just the same methodsHeineken Helen wrote:Doesn't matter who believes it or not. I don't think any of those things about people who believe in an inside job. the only thing: they might be a little lazy...it's easy to just switch everything around completely and thus neglect details that do not fit and blame it on the man, not seeing the more complex picture (that's just what the bush administration did when they started utilizing 9/11: it's all so easy Bin Laden did it, let's bomb Afghanistan)I think it's pretty obvious there is a superclass who, for whatever reasons, work with eachother and for eachother.
this is a hat much too old...once the jews were supposed to play that role, and now it's the "bankers" on one side, and "international terrorism" on the other...those are easy to grasp labels that might take an easy grip on people's mind, yet they aren't fit to even closely describe what's going on in the world...
in my part of the world those who forcibly argue about an inside job(or a Mossad attack) are the same as always when it comes to simple ideologies and explanations...right-wing fascists...elsewhere it's more "normal" people who follow it, sure...not generilzing here...Now call me a fucking conspiracy theorist nutjob... and see if I give a fuck. Those who hate conspiracy theorists seem to feel quite strong about it. It's almost like they're threatened by us... cos they fear we may be right!
hence I guess you can say I'm a bit frightened, but not that you may be right, but how people are so easily convinced with the least complicated explanations...

well, I'm sorry but that I cannot do...
what I can say is that the world doesn't look like any of those:
coalition of the willing vs. axis of evil
workers vs. capitalists
christianity vs. islam
US vs. terrorists
immigrants vs. natives
USA/Israel vs rest of world
white vs. black/brown/yellow/red
bankers vs. world population
liberals vs. conservatives
or...
right vs. wrong
good vs evil
us vs. them

i just see eddie vedder as a brilliant and talented musician. i enjoy being a fan. i am not a disciple. it's irrelevant to me what ed thinks of the official story of 9/11.

I think most of those are government/newspaper sayings not conspiracy theories.
There is a lot of information out there that is fact. We don't just make it up.Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!

I know...but many sources or outlets for conspiracy theory, like Zeitgeist, the Movie which I think you kinda quote in your signature just blatantly leave out certain pieces of information to make other pieces fit their particular picture better...
To stick with this particular example: I think it's a very interesting and thougt-provoking film, but that doesn't make me believe it's final message...
it doesn't really fit the topic here though...so I(we) better stop...
also pj_gurl raised a valid point:)

Usually the people with the most to gain are automatic suspects immediately. So why, when it's big, is this overlooked?
I don't think it's easy to come up with different theories... it's much easier to read the papers or listen to people telling you what happened... and just take their word for it. I was brought up to think for myself. Of COURSE I don't have as much information as many people but there's rarely smoke without fire.
I haven't taken any conspiracy theory and accepted it as fact or rehashed somebody elses words to 'prove my point'. I've listened to every side of it and I decide whether or not I believe we're being told the entire truth. Of course this is only my opinion and I really don't expect people to care... but sometimes there is more than enough evidence on the lesser listened to side to suggest otherwise. There is also enough evidence that the media immediately dismisses anyone who says otherwise as nutjobs... blatently. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

I guess we will notice what he believes on the next album. Once you realize 911 - the world never looks the same again..
Riot Act is to close the 911-event. People were not waking up until 04-05..

well, I wasn't talking to you here, but to the other poster (spiral out):)
you should watch it...I think it's worth it...yet the deception is clear as well...
and don't get me started about that "lecture" that claims Bush is the beginning of an american third reich...;)
and really the only thing I'm trying to put forth here (and in every other post I comment on) there's hardly ever only two sides to some story...
many people are to comfortable with the us vs. them logic...is all I'm saying:)

What does 'got lucky with a strike' have to do with anything? lol..Anyway, I agree with PJ Gurl in the sense that I couldn't care less regarding the intelligent or not so intelligent views/feelings of Mr. Vedder..though I do diligently subsribe and agree with anything and everthing Roland & Driftin copy and paste..

I've never, ever heard or read anything alluding too the fact that Eddie Vedder believes what you're claiming. Also, anyone can pick and choose lyrics to fit a mold of some larger issue, but he it's got more to do with you applying your beliefs to the lyrics, than the lyrics having that meaning.CONservative governMENt
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis0
