Ohh come on, that is how it used to be a long time ago...really, things have changed. Back in the day when jewish people were aprehensive it was because of self-preservation instinct. The so-called "prohibition" stems from the fact that the Torah states that religion is trasmitted through the mother's womb. Hence, ff course orthodox jews won't marry outside their beliefs, likewise, strict catholics will only marry catholics, etc, etc.
I think it is not the same an average jew than an orthodox jew...
My husband is jewish (a non practicing one, who only attends festivities for the food) and really almost all the jewish people I've met (and there are lots here in Argentina) have no problems with mixed marriages.

Well, taking water from the arabs and selling it back to them for one. How about detaining thousands of arabs without trial? Do you do the same for israelis?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. EDIT: Note to self, learn how to spell the word racist.
I actually agree with you there. Ahnimus wrote:Thanks for bringing this issue to the forefront.
If you visit http://www.adl.org and spend some time reading thier view, you can clearly see they are racist towards arabs. The whole organization, called "The Anti-defamation League" was created to "Protect Jews from Anti-Semitism" it claims to protect Homosexuals and Women aswell. However, what it really does is label people anti-semites, it labels people that are critical of judaism or Israel. Which isn't really racism, it's criticism. There is a big difference between holocaust revisionism and the nazis that pulled the switch on the gas chambers. One is a critic and the other is a racist.
So what has happened? The ADL and many Jews like Jsand, declare that any non-Jew that fails to support Judaism or is critical of Jews and Israel is an anti-semite. Thus further drawing the distinction between Jews (God's Chosen) and Goyyim (non-Jews/Beasts). It's perfectly acceptable to these people to criticise Islam and the Arabs.
This is what I think:
1. If the ADL takes a stand X, it doesn't mean every jew person will think the same about it. Generalization is a bad thing.
2. Anti-Semitism = Using Judaism/the state of Israel as a reason or an excuse for thinking or doing all kind of negative / stereotypic things to a Jewish person.
3. *Automatically* criticizing the state of Israel in a very demagogic and unbalanced way no matter what = Neo-Anti-Semitism.
4. Criticizing the state of Israel in a fair, deep and balanced way is more than wellcomed. Calling it Anti-Semitism is wrong, and only brings more hate and real Anti-Semitism.
5. Disliking Jewish customs / tradition is ok, as long as there are no Anti-Semitismtic reasons for thinking that way.
6. It is only natural for one to stay in his own "environment". That's why most black people would marry to each other, Christians with Christians and Jews with Jews. Yes, there is the fear of "becoming assimilated" with other religions, and after ww2 that fear became stronger cause we hardly survived. There are lots of non-religious families and religious ones who don't think marring a Christian is unacceptable, and there are others who think it is.
That's it for now :-)0 -

Good analysis, so why do groups like the ADL and people like Jsand quickly call everyone that confronts them Anti-Semites? and why don't they just use the term Racist?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. By the way Shiraz, let me correct #2 for you, Anti-Semitism is racism towards semites, which are both Hebrew and Arabic speaking people, Jews and Arabs are both Semites.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Of caurse! But you know that over the years, Anti-Semitism became identified with Anti-jews, no one using this expression for arabs.0 -
Here is a good source for you Jsand. It's an Israeli article on how Israel descriminates against Arabs, very informative for anyone ignorant to Israel's crimes.
"The Arab population in Israel is engaged in an ongoing struggle for equality in all spheres of life. At the same time this population also has a major share in the struggle of all Israeli peace forces - Jewish and Arab - against the occupation and for a just peace, as well as in the struggles to defend democratic rights, workers' rights and economic welfare, and for full equality of all citizens in all fields.
The Arabs in Israel are Israeli citizens and part of the Arab Palestinian people. They constitute a national minority comprising some 900,000 citizens, about 18% of the total population. The great majority of them are hired workers who are employed outside their own communities. The number of those engaged in agriculture has shrunk steadily, due to repeated confiscations of land owned by the Arab population in Israel.
All governments of Israel have continued along the basic line of perpetuating the discrimination. Nevertheless, the many struggles conducted over the years did yield some significant achievements. Among them were prevention of some additional land confiscations, and suspension of the implementation of others; recognition of some Arab communities as cities, after years when - despite having inhabitants in the tens of thousands - they were officially designated "villages"; prevention in many cases of the demolition of "illegal" Arab houses; and the allocation of certain government budgets. But the policy of discrimination did not change in its fundaments, and in some spheres the situation actually worsened. "

Actually this may be written by an Arab Israelite, because of the excessive use of the word "struggle" which is the exact translation of Jihad. Maybe not, but that's just an observation.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Jsand? ask him or give me an example and then ask what I think about it.
Anyway, maybe because there are too many cases as described at paragraphs 2 & 3, you become too defensive about everything.0 -

thats very ironic. i guess these jews came to argentina to flee the holocaust. and then later when the germans were beaten, most of the members of waffen SS and other nazi war criminals fled from the allies by moving to the same argentina.

I don't excuse the way in which North America was conquered, it parallels the Israel-Palestine conflict, however, in our modern day, we should have evolved enough as co-dependants to abolish reperations and any racist sentiment felt among the Natives. Now in Canada the Natives have some very preferential laws that actually work against their full integration into Canadian society.“One good thing about music,

"defensive"?
Ok, when I criticise Judaism or Israel and I am called a racist, that is defensive, then I defend myself against claims that I am racist. the arabs on the contrary would gladly butcher any jew who went to live anywhere in the arab world. if they could help it, they would anhilate the state of israel too.

It's a well knowen thing, btw. But the reason for this is more "minority-majority" stuff than just descriminating arabs. Its like the US is actually descriminating black or immigrants people. Sad, but the truth is part of this process is actually natural.
and I'm quite sure that today's use for the word Jihad means 'a powerful religious (muslim) struggle'.0 -

the formation of israel atones for a crime (the crime of the romans of throwing the jews out of their own land and the crime of 1000s of pogroms and finally the holocaust) - where as the formation of the new world on the back of genocides and small pox infected blankets is ITSELF the crime.I have faced it, A life wasted...
