    i still have not seen one reasonable answer to my question. because there is no answer. maybe one day the majority will figure out we are the world aggressor and are not threatened at all by outside countries taking us over. just keep sending that check to uncle sam so he can dominate the planet through force in your name

    I think that is the issue. You have answered, and realistically. My2hands has a noble vision of a world where everyone can hold hands around the campfire singing Kumbaya. That would be great. But there is no precedent for it. It is something to strive for, but not at the expense of ignoring reality. If My2hands can show a period of time where there was no conflict, aggression or war happening on this planet, we can perhaps look more closely at what was happening at the time and emulate it. But I believe that search will be in vain. Plan and hope for the campfire songs, but live in reality.

    Iran? North Korea? Surely those are potential threats, no?

    Individually I'm sure the US could handle them, but if a few of these "axis of evil" countries launch a unified attack on the US, would you not agree that it would be beneficial to be prepared?

    Better still, like I said a few posts ago - until things balance out (maybe hundreds of years from now...) it's better to be over-prepared and intimidate potential threats out of coming over here.

    The White House knows it's pissed enough people off out there that it knows the only way to keep the dogs at bay is to build an armed forces program big enough that nobody will want to fuck with them.

    After war you should cut some military spending after a war but not to the extent the US did and probably will do after this war.
