do you eat meat?

I was 'almost' vegarian for a long time, and my kids who already were convinced me to be one. It has been a little hard at times because I'm busy and don't like to cook, so I don't always eat well or enough, but that's not really the fault of vegetarianism. When I crave meat (which I didn't eat very much of anyway), it usually means I haven't been eating enough protein in general, so I pay better attention to that, in the form of eggs and tofu, and dairy. Even though its not always easy, I feel its the right thing to do, and its gotten easier.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

this just reinforced my vegetarianism, i couldn't watch parts of it. just thought i'd post the link here because i can't even think straight right now, but i hate preaching, and don't want to send it to my friends (all of whom eat animals), so i thought i'd put it here and hear what you all had to say about it.
strict vegetarian of 15+ years now. I'm 31.
It's like a door was freaking open.
That was the time in my life when I realized I didnt need church.
The time that I made decisions that werent ones that I was born into.
Many of the people of the world walk around the world like little robots. If you were born Hindu, you don't question it since its all you know, so you continue, If you're born a meat eater, you don't question it since its all you know, so you continue.
for those familiar with Hawking:
An elderly lady came up and told the scientist that he had it all wrong.
She said "The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant turtle."
The scientist asked "And what is the turtle standing on?"
The lady triumphantly replied: "You're a very clever, young man, but it's no use...
it's turtles all the way down".
For too many people, they just know it's turtles.
Unfortunate, but amusing to watch.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

If God wanted us to be vegetarians then why did he make meat taste so good?Stix and Stones may break my bones, but More than Words will never hurt me.0

This lasted 28 years. I went vegetarian and the cramps went away completely. Nothing since. When my wife went vegan her asthma and allergies went away. But we all react differently.
Just a comment about protein though...you can get plenty of protein on a vegan diet. I average about 80 grams a day without really trying and I'm fully vegan.
yah, but real protein as I like to call it just can't be replaced. I respect your vegan life style tho.. I grew up this way with my parents strongly believing in being a vegan. My dad later in life tho.. turned to meat just like me.. just to see and he loved pork and salmon. My mom tried fish a few times.0 -
Well, with my heritage and family, both sides being avid hunters, yes, I eat meat. Almost every kind I guess thats around where I live. Cow, pig, chicken, turkey, partridge, deer, moose, fish, lobster, clams. It's all fair game. I've never really considered going vegetarian, just isn't something that has ever crossed my mind. Would I ever consider? At some point, probably. But I couldn't be anywheres near my family.
I really don't see what is wrong with eating meat. As well, we are animals that are in fact omnivores.0 -

Do you ever eat Blootwurst/Black Pudding?
I don't think I could stomach it myself, but it would be great to take into a PETA meeting.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Lol...I'm not this big woodsy, Grizzly Adams type person and I am not really the hunting type, I've gone out with dad hunting numerous times though. I live in a smaller city with probably about 20,000 with a surrounding area of probably 50,000 and I just have a side of the family that likes hunting and fishing, as the area has great hunting and fishing places.
But...to answer your question, yeah I've tried that a couple times. It's pretty strong tasting from what I can remember. I wasn't a big fan.0 -
My resolution next year is completely give up meat. I've been doing well at weening myself off of it this year so now I'm feeling good about dropping it all together. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I've never seen anyone eat it. I watched a documentary on the process of making Blood Sausage. Same here, actually I've been working on going vegan for a while, but I suck at planning ahead & end up hungry with few options.
So I guess my resolution is to be better at planning out my meals.Walking can be a real trip

I tried going veggie for awhile and ate a lot of tofu and protein cereal, but I would still almost black out every now and then from the lack of protein I guess.0

i've had a variation of it from hungary.
what? i didn't grow up veggie
i love the taste of meat, my parents mocked me for years that i used to think that ribs were a 'light meal' (i guess my young self thought 'light' meant 'sweet and delicious'), i was all steak, ribs, beef, etc, then i came to realize meat was just wrong
i'm not one to preach though, it's funny that this thread tookNo problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it.

I am a vegan. Eating meat is absurd. The conditions of animals who are slaughtered for you meat eaters is really sickening. I suggest you read Fast Food Nation or watch one of PETA's info videos.
These animals aren't being treated fairly, one could even make a case that if these animals were treated well, that maybe their killing or slaughter was somehow positive. Thats not the case here. Chickens are put in bad conditions all cramped together, no where to roam or walk. Pigs are beaten. Its really gross stuff.
I encourage everyone to become vegan. Animals deserve to be respected and to live life.0 -

You don't have to be such a communist about it. No one is going to just up and change because you "encourage" them to. In fact, even though I don't eat red meat, your aggressive preaching has inspired me to drive right on over to Carl's Jr. and down a $6 burger. I've been looking for an excuse to do that ever since I stopped eating them 3 years ago, and Your self-righteous approach to spreading the word is just what I was looking for.0 -

Yea, you can let chickens run around in the wild. But then they get run over by cars, eaten by weasels and starve to death anyway. How fair would it really be to the animals to release them onto the streets? We can put them in the wilderness, until it's overrun by our expansion. This way we can control the animal population, protect them from extinction and get our proteins.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my
place of slumber.
And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the
spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest.
And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil.
One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear.
And terror possesed me then.
And I begged,
"Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me,
"These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them
it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of
one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light!
They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul!
Damn you!
Let the rabbits wear glasses!
Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen?
Can I get a hallelujah?
Thank you Jesus.
This is necessary.

I think it's a matter of need vs. want. The "life feeds on life" approach assumes that the taking of life for the sake of nourishment is a necessary act of self-preservation. Such an approach assumes that if it were not necessary, then it would not occur.
Well, we've gotten to the point where it is no longer necessary to eat meat. So, in effect, the "life feeds on life" approach is no longer applicable. The consumption of meat is no longer a need. Rather, it is a want.0 -

Depends on how you define life. Marriam Webster defines it as an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction. By that definition we can't eat carrots either.
Marriam Webster also defines life as the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual. So, to what degree does a chicken have life then? Do chickens bond with their mates and congregate to discuss future development? I don't think a chicken has much in terms of mental experience, or even physical ability.
Where do you draw the line? Everything that has a brain? A mammalian brain? Can we eat crab? Can we eat chicken eggs, since they don't have brains?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny.
