    and you need the cancer fighting fat conjugated linoleic acid; and selenium; and other minerals. the problem with suppliments is absorption. some suppliments cannot be properly absorbed; some inhibit the absorption of other vitamins. with many suppliments; the unabsorbed matter accumulates in the liver or kidneys.
    there's a reason people have been eating meat for thousands of years.

    just to be clear I did not write the post you responded to in favour of meat. I wrote that hemp provides all the amico acids. Meat is death and wrong and there are many other foods that can give you the same nutrition without the fat and bad health.

    i'm very sorry. all i did was hit quote. i do not have any control over the forums software program; nor did i modify it in any way. i suggest you report the problem to one of the mods as the board has had technical difficulties all day.
    i am only offering verifiable medical information to those involved in this thread. for example:

    Two new studies suggest that grassfed meat and dairy products may reduce the risk of breast cancer
    CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a cancer-fighting fat that is most abundant in grassfed products. Two new European studies link a diet high in CLA with a lower risk of breast cancer. In Finland, researchers measured CLA levels in the serum of women with and without breast cancer. Those women with the most CLA had a significantly lower risk of the disease. Meanwhile, French researchers measured CLA levels in the breast tissues of 360 women. Once again, the women with the most CLA had the lowest risk of cancer. In fact, the women with the most CLA had a staggering 74% lower risk of breast cancer than the women with the least CLA.
    The most natural and effective way to increase your intake of CLA is to eat the meat and dairy products of grassfed animals.

    Grassfed bison — the original "Happy Meal?"
    Martin Marchello at the Carrington Research Extension Center has found that grassfed bison have as much as four times more selenium (an essential trace mineral) than grainfed bison. Eating just three ounces of grassfed bison, for example, can give you over 100 mcg. of selenium, which is several times the daily minimum requirement.
    Most of the selenium research has focused on its potential to reduce the risk of cancer, but a 1990 study found that selenium also promotes a sunnier disposition! In this study, volunteers were given either 100 micrograms of selenium or a sugar pill. Those who were given the selenium noticed an improved mood in just two weeks. Eating a small portion of grassfed bison on a daily basis should produce the same results.

    The problem is the # of these chickens left to suffocate and die is so big it's hard to find a place for them all. Plus these slaughterhouses aren't too keen to help out or work with animal welfare groups and do their best to hide these types abuses which happen daily all over the world. This is how the meat industry works. These aren't lving breathing animals to them. They're products...commodities. Easily expendable. Absolutley no care is given to their well being. And until the regular public stands up and says we don't support this horrible abuse, we are a civilized people who won't stand for animal torture, than it will continue and continue. I mean look at this board alone. The complete lack of empathy and compassion is just overwhelming.
    However, many local animal welfare groups did help me in giving info on how to care for a chicken and finding a permanent home for her. They're a beackon of light in a world of selfishness and cruelty.

    i do.
    i was a vegetarian for a little over 2 years, and i readily admit i had difficulty sticking with it. it's a personal weakness, and yes i am aware of the horrendous living conditions of most animals and i still consume meat...and that makes me a hypocrite at best. it really stems from laziness. i am not a big meat eater by any means. sure i enjoy my chicken wings and a good burger now and again....but i never was a huge fan of meat per se. however, i don't cook....my husband does...he never went veggie with me...and it was simply 'easy' to go back to it. poor excuse, and it's not really an excuse....just the way i went with my eating habits. i do LOVE eggs, cheese and fish......so i could never go completely vegan, but perhaps someday i'd go veggie again.....altho i do love my leather too. when i went veggie i had given that up too. ahhhh....bad habits and preferences. however, i do agree humans are omnivores, and if we treated the animals we farm decently, i really see nothing 'wrong' with eating them.....it's the natural life process. it's HOW we go about it that is wrong.

  • I stopped eating red meat and pork in the summer of 1994 and haven't regretted it. I do eat fish - sushi, and I like chicken and turkey, but when I go meatless, I just love pasta, salad or something vegetarian, I prefer that over meat. But I'm a small frame female with iron issues and physically, I need protein to get me through (that time of the month). And yes, I take iron pills, but only twice a month because iron pills clog up your system.

    My lady's dad is a hunter, and he's hooked me up with some killer venison. Deer tenderloin is exxxxxxxxxcellent, especially in the slow cooker.

    Dude I just took the loin, chopped it up, threw it in the slow cooker with some frozen vegetables (broccoli, corn, green beans, etc) and chopped up Idaho (who da ho?) potatoes and cooked that shit up. I put in some cajun season, some Old Bay seasoning and hellz yeah.

    Basically, I treat venison like beef, but it tastes much better and is far healthier. Oh, and the animal is cute.

    I understand... and from what I understand those who ate dairy products used to not be considered vegetarian. And even today those who eat fish are Pescatarians & those who eat poultry are Pollotarians, not Vegetarians.

As I got closer I noticed they were full of dead chickens. 6 giant barrels full of these dead chickens which had not had their necks slit or put through the scalding water. They of course died while in transport in those tiny cages or while being loaded. Many probably were sick and not worthy of being killed for human consumption and were just tossed in there to die (you hear about this all the time). I walked around the barrels and I almost started crying as I saw a baby chicken standing in the alley right beside the 6 barrels of dead chickens. She was very small and didn't look like a full grown chicken like the other dead ones (who are actually only 6 weeks old...frankenchickens). She was sitting there, beside all the dead ones, not moving at all except for shivering. Mean while around me the workers were spraying the alley or moving trucks. It was obvious this little guy was thrown in the trash to die as well, but managed to jump down or fall into the alley. It was truly one of the saddest things I've ever seen. She is now living in a big box in my bathroom while I wait to get her to a farm sanctuary to take care of her. She finally stopped shaking after about 6 hours in a blanket then sleeping the night away. This morning she's finally eating and drinking water, giving these cute little peeps everytime you put your hand in the box. To think the terror and abuse it went through, and the fear it must have had standing in that freezing alley surrounded by death and blood.

He was telling me how he has seen chickens and chicks running around that alley before, or left to die in the garbage bins. Sadly her prospects of living past 6-9 months are very low. The "broiler" chickens are bred to put on alot of weight fast, and they have all sorts of health problems, usually with their legs. It is extremely common for their hearts to just explode inside them. Normal chickens not bred to be eaten can live up to 15 years.
    Not a single person on here wouldn't have a broken heart or a tear in there eye if they saw this tiny little bird. These chickens go through the most agonizing torture and horrible death you could imagine.

    This little guy is exactly the reason that eating meat is immoral and wrong. The chickens can be treated great (which they never are) up until slaughter. But there is no humane slaughter. It is ugly, and bloody, and full of pain and 100% completely unneccesary.
    thus the reason i don't eat commercial meat. but with my current diet i've been able to drop almost 20 prescriptions (5 or 6 were narcotics); and i feel better than i did before surgery. my weight is proper and i'm full of life. to each their own i guess.

    i'll have to pm you some good receipes. if you get cuts with a gamey taste; soak it in vinegar and water for a few hours to overnight. then just before it's done; add a tablespoon of brown sugar.

    anyway; i wonder if the veggies know the poisons and dyes in their produce?
