I respect that people are vegans/vegetarians. I don't respect vegans/vegetarians that preach to everyone about you shouldn't eat meat, you shouldn't kill animals blah blah blah and then I look down and see their wearing leather shoes or carrying a leather bag. Dickheads!
Do any of you vegans/vegetarians still wear leather? I bet some of you do but I doubt any of you will answer.
Been a vegetarian for two years (I'm 19). Started out as a way to live more sustainably, and after seeing some of things they do to animals, and having a greater appreciation for all life... I'll never go back to meat again.
Edit: I also try to avoid any and all animal products... fur (obviously), leather, ect... But it's difficult to do sometimes... for example, I work deconstruction in the summer and need work boots... I've never seen workboots not made of leather, so... it sucks but I had to buy boots made of leather.
It's a matter of living the best life possible, not a perfect one.
Eating meat is not absurd at all, it's in our nature, in fact it's natural, regardless of how you feel about it.
The conditions of the animals I eat are not sickening.
A vegan? What the fuck is wrong with eating cheese man? Or eating an egg? If you had said vegetarian, I could have seen your point but you totally lost me here, man.
I'm a vegan as well so I'll take a shot at this one.
Some people go vegan for health reasons (you don't hear dieticians telling people to cut down on dairy for nothing), but for me it's not wanting to support any form of animal abuse. The dairy industry directly supports the veal industry which is easily one of the most cruel methods of "meat" production there is. Only lactating cows can be milked, so these cows are continually impregnanted so they can continue to be milked. If a male calve is born it's taken away from the mother often as early as 2 days old, stuck in a veal crate where it cannot move or even lie down, kept in the dark and fed a iron deficient diet so it's muscle stays tender and pale which is what people want on their plates sadly. The mother cow is pretty much a milk machine. Most of them spend their entire lives indoors or in individual pens. They are fed a steady diet of Bovine Growth Hormone to increase their milk production. This all takes a brutal toll on their bodies and often after only 4-5 years of this they are spent and are taken to slaughter (which in itself is terrible).
Egg laying hens are also victimized in ways you probably didn't know. In order to increase egg output they are stuffed into cages with each other having only enough space for themselves the size of a standard sheet of paper. They cannot flap their wings or move around. They are painfully debeaked so they don't peck each other to death as they go stir crazy in these cages. The cages are stacked on top of one another so the feces from the cages above drops on the hens below. Their lungs get burnt from all the ammonia fumes and their feathers fall off. The death rate while stuck in these cages can be high, but the egg output is also high so the egg producers are ok with the deaths. It is terrible torture and completely uneccesary. Eggs are useless and can be replaced in recipes by a variety of other ingredients.
The taste of something doesn't make torturing another living being ok. People get upset when they hear about a dog or cat being tortured (unless its for fur in China) but turn a blind eye towards cows and chickens, etc. It's just wrong.

Very interesting. How do you feel about free range beef/chicken etc or small family farms? How about hunting? Just out of curiosity because in these cases, there are not the same abuses that you described.
meat, like milk, makes me feel logey(sp?). i can't even eat ice cream anymore. plus anything with gelatine in it is out as well. not such a big sacrifice though.

Mmmmmm, meat- it's what's for dinner, and breakfast and lunch for that matter.. Had a steak and egg burrito from Del Taco yesterday, and the wife did some pork roast in the crock pot for dinner last night. Good stuff.. And top sirloin and prime rib are two of the best meals ever created..
And I did see that supposedly horrid vid with Pam Anderson railing against KFC. You know what? Popcorn chicken tastes pretty good, no matter how shitty the chickens are treated.. Who the fuck cares? They are fucking CHICKENS.. One of the more expendable creatures this earth has ever known.. If you'r e gonna think watching that vid is gonna make me think otherwise, you're sorely mistaken..
So, in conclusion, YES, I do eat meat.. And goddamn, it tastes good...

did you watch the video i posted on the first page? i challenge you to eat meat after watching that. go watch the part where they get their beaks cut off? could you watch it? are you human?
Jesusfuckingchrist, don't get so melodramatic about it.. "Am I human?" Yes, I very much am, and I did watch the supposedly horrid vid all the way through. So fucking what? Chicken tastes good, so does cow, swine, whatever. Meat tastes good, that's what I choose to put in my body so who gives a flyin' fuck?
And Pam Anderson should stick with trying to find a cure for her Hep C instead of trying to pimp out her beliefs on Veganism..

i grew up in a very southern household, so every meal was meat...even our veggies had bacon fat in them! i loved it then, i can't lie. but i discovered that i was not able to actually eat any meat that i cooked myself. i would get sick.
i quit eating after college 4 years ago, but went about it the complete wrong way and i ended up eating meat again. a couple years ago, almost everyone at work went veg. after a health problem w/ a coworkers grandfather - he supposedly died of mad cow disease, though i'm not sure how accurate this is?!? that, coupled w/ watching "supersize me" and i quit eating meat/drinking soda/eating fast food the next day. i haven't looked back since and have been really happy and excited about my decision.
it's a personal decision. and i don't impose my beliefs on anyone else. i live w/ 2 other roommates who eat meat and have never said a word to them about it. though i get REALLY excited when they come home from the grocery store w/ mostly veggie stuff
yes...i do feel like a human. i do not feel like a tree.
If you come over, I'll even serve you a steak or a burger. Of course, it will be burger from a cow that was allowed to graze in a pasture and wasn't pumped full of drugs and pesticides and hormones while it was alive.
I'm not all militant about it, I eat what I want to eat and don't concern myself with what others eat. I choose not to eat meat because the way animals on most farms are treated while they're alive, and I don't want to eat all the crap that factory farms feed their animals. Who knows, if organically raised free-range meat was more readily available, I might still be eating the stuff, but it's a nuisance to get ... the closest store is 45 minutes away, it was easier to give it up entirely.

so what your saying is.....
you eat a lot of vegetables....
but you are NOT a vegetarian.......
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I am a vegan. Eating meat is absurd. The conditions of animals who are slaughtered for you meat eaters is really sickening. I suggest you read Fast Food Nation or watch one of PETA's info videos.
These animals aren't being treated fairly, one could even make a case that if these animals were treated well, that maybe their killing or slaughter was somehow positive. Thats not the case here. Chickens are put in bad conditions all cramped together, no where to roam or walk. Pigs are beaten. Its really gross stuff.
I encourage everyone to become vegan. Animals deserve to be respected and to live life.
What do you think of animals eating animals? The wolf, the lion, the bear, etc.
Ok, more power to you people who are vegetarians.... But, I would like to say that not everybody is going to stop eating meat. Animals are still going to be slaughtered so a few more vegetarians won't help very much....

I've never seen anyone eat it. I watched a documentary on the process of making Blood Sausage. Pretty gross, neat though.
You must come to Europe then where it's commonly eaten! Black pudding is a breakfast thing in the UK and boudin noir in France and in Belgium (also Netherlands, Germany, etc). In Belgium and Northern France there is also a special 'christmas' boudin with sultanas, etc. (old tradition from days gone by.....).
It's not as gross as it seems and the taste doesn't have to be too strong either!
Next time you're in this part of the world, let me know!!! :D

Last time I checked other vegetarian animals like cows have teeth as well. It would be tough to bite into an apple without them.
I find it funny when people use the argument "other animals eat animals so why shouldn't I". So now all of a sudden your comparing your intelligence and lifestyle to that of a wolf or bear? Hmmmm...
What seperates humans from other animals....our ability to reason and make decisions based on ethics and morals. Don't we pride ourselves on our superior intellect, but then we compare oursleves to other animals for convience. We can survive without killing...we just choose to because we like the taste, and I'm sorry but that's just wrong. Knowingly inflicting pain on another creature is wrong. If I went to someones house, took their dog and shot a bolt into it's head you would all be horrified and call for my head. But hey, let someone else do it to a pig (who have equal intelligence to dogs) and that's ok...."me has to have my bacon".
It's ethical amnesia my friends. We pick and choose when to apply our morals based on how convienent it is. It's pretty sad.
Red meat white meat seafood, pork, beef, chicken...mmmm good
I am just asking, I know it is gross how the animals are slaughtered, but how do people expect the meat to become meat? Should we wait until all the animlas die naturally? When you are talking thousands of animals they can;t hire a chicken whisperer to talk nice before the swing it around in circles then chop its head off.
I do not think it is humane in many ways, I certainly think a nail gun to the head of a cow is pretty gross, but would you rather drown them?
There is no good way to kill these animals, but it has to be done.
We kill plants to eat them too, they just can't yell out. They have feeling too, ever notice they wither? They actually can flourish when music is played while they are growing? So to just cut them off at the stalk must create some pain for the plant as it is living too.
That pretty much leaves us with water, and even then, what about the poor microbes in there! The ppor dust mites we inhale each night what about them?
Do you have any problems spraying bugs with RAID? I am sure being poisened by100 times the needed dosage makes their deaths a little better. It is really quick when we smack them witha shoe or rolled up newspaper.
My point is I do not think killing is a good thing, but it is necessary in some capacity for all of us to live. When we die some bug s going to have a really big dinner on it's feet, gross but all part of it. Are aspects of this totally cruel yeah. Feeding animals till they burst for more tender meat is pretty sickening.
You made the choice to not eat things that were put through that, and I commend all you vegans/veggies etc. But I will continue to eat my big juicy fat full cheesburger.
