I don't think it is an attack on religion but an attack on those that try to force their religion upon non-believers.

I personally having nothing against any religion but when someone starts trying to shove their beliefs down my throat that is when my ire gets riled up.

The person who started this thread is doing exactly that. Hestarted this thread to promote his beliefs and put down the beliefs or lack of beleifs of others.

I essentially agree. My mother, grandmother, many friends are very religious. I never have a problem with it until my mom starts her occasional preach session... then I get annoyed.

I also don't like when there is a (mostly) educated conversation going on with regards to something scientific and someone can only contribute.. "Gods work!"

I was raised a Catholic for 18 years. Went to classes, went to church every Sunday, altar boy, communion, confirmation... not once did I try to convert one of my friends who is of another religion. not once did i say "God says you are going to hell". not once did I say "I'm praying for you". They believe what they want when they are at home or in church, when we are together we just hang out... no matter our thoughts.

So please don't pray for me
don't tell me I'm going to hell because your God says so
don't tell me the Earth is round because God made it that way
don't tell me a book written by some guys a long time ago came right from the horses mouth.

and for the sake of all you religious people out there...

    Peace be with you.

you've never seen an anti-athiest thread here. believers don't attack athiests. we pray for them. so why then do athiests feel the need to attack the beliefs of others?

i have seen anti-atheist threads, i've even participated in a few. believers do plenty of attacking. case in point: why am i not allowed to mock gays?

sorry; my mistake. i haven't seen any. i've mostly seen athiest threads that try to convert others to their way of thinking.

you can mock gays all you want. we call them rope suckers here.

I don't think stating the obvious equates to preaching.

i never said, "well, you're going to hell then." look back on my words and "I" didn't say that. i never said that i was the judge. if you believe there isn't a God, a heaven and a hell then you have nothing to worry about, right. i came here to add to this particular thread and you want to make me out to be a hater. that's not what i'm about. i don't wish the worst on people, and i don't care if you think that i'm that way or not.

I never said YOU were the judge. You believe in the word of god in the bible, the bible says those who don't believe etc. go to hell, therefore... you believe that someone like me (and many others here) will go to hell... So excuse me, your statements were more along the lines of "As per Gods word, you will be attending Hell and I believe Gods word".

Secondly, you are "wishing" the worst on people. you just aren't coming right out and saying it. You say you want to get along with everyone... then instead of saying "You are going to Hell because God says so and I believe Gods word" you are saying "Gods book states you those who dont believe will go to hell" same thing, just reworded. It boils down to this: You want to get along, yet when someone without your same beliefs speaks about not believing you tell them they are going to Hell.. and Hell for YOU is the worst place ever...

    Thanks for the well wishes.

If you abandon your thoughts. It would be obvious to you.

i thought hell was a modern concept. invented by dante. biblical hell is not entering the kingdom of God. it's not that you go somewhere; it's that you are excluded. i don't recall anyone wishing the worst on you. if you reject God; you will not be allowed in his kingdom. if you don't believe in the kingdom of God; no one wished anything upon you.

you're second paragraph is interesting. it shows hyprocracy at it's finest. you're preaching athiesm while condemning what others believe only because they do not agree with you.

If you can't beat 'em join 'em.

Besides that, they are in-fact wrong.

I personally don't care if saying they are wrong is annoying. It can't be any more annoying than listening to people mock homosexuality. Religion is obsolete, unfortunately these people still fall for it. Then again, maybe they need it to have any kind of understanding. It's quite obvious that even with it, they are still prejudice. Without it, they might be the most hateful people to live.

Sweet, I don't want to go to the kingdom of God, Hell sounds like a good place.

common courtesy is a foreign concept to some people. I'm quite sure there's a scientific reason to hide behind why some of them can't be bothered extending it to others.

Cannot think beyond the mind? What does that mean, do you think with your arm?

Hey, as long as you can leave it for the next life, I'm happy. You can stop talking shit about homosexuality and just know you won't have to worry about them in your next life. That would be great, thanks.

by you believing in something negative and saying I will go there... thats not wishing me well... I don't believe I will go there... that doesn't mean it wasn't meant negatively by the person who does believe it.

If i believe in a place called "no no" that is a very terrible place and say you are going there, whether you believe in that place or not I was essentially saying you're screwed and I'm not hoping the best for you.

i'm condemning people who thrust what they believe on me... like the "i'm praying for you" or "God says Hell for you" comments. i "believe" in science, if thats what you want to call it. You dont hear me saying "Oh, I'll go do a physics problem for you" or "trees will not grow because you will make a bad decomposer" when people talk about God. I just state that I don't believe it.

I'm not even sure of what I'm typing anymore, I've been sitting here for too long without nourishment... When I'm done I'll rise again up the steps and spread my word in this forum... :p

Onelongsong's view is prejudice and hateful. I may be bigoted, but I don't hate. There is a big difference here. My view doesn't actually hurt anyone, perhaps my aggressive method of discourse does, but I view that as a weakness on the receiving end.

I am not disgusted by homosexuality. Onelongsong is, he is speaking hate and I don't appreciate it. Especially when he denies actual evidence, not ancient fairy tales, but real fucking facts that are right under his nose. He's blind by his preconceived notions. Homosexuality is not a free-choice, nothing is. The sooner that is realized, the better off we will all be. Give it 15 years and you will be the minority, the numbers will reverse, atheism is growing as more and more people abandon the ancient school of thought. Within my lifetime I will see a major fall in Onelongsongs and haters alike. By 2030 we will know with absolute certainty that we are biological robots, the product of cellular automata. Many people already know this, the latest statistics show only 15% of the top thinkers believe in a God and they are mostly Einstein's God. Faith is a matter of ignorance.

I'm not going to hide the facts, sweep observable truth under the rug for someone's fantasy. Onelongsong's belief is based on nothing, absolutely nothing, but a history of reinforcement from his peers and a single subjective experience. Still it's more than what most religious fanatics base their beliefs on.

they think you are in-fact wrong. and neither of you has proof of it. so you're talking out your ass as much as they.

but yeah, justifying hate with religion is bad. im just saying, talk them out of the hateful interpretation of their religion, not the religion itself. that is for them to decide and has no impact on you.
