Dude, if you had Ed's number, why would you be wasting your time crying all over the board? In a phone call, you could actually settle the amazing mystery: WHO FROM THE BAND AGREES WITH ED?! And the even more earth-shattering, tear-inducing mystery: WHY DIDN'T THEY SHARE MORE FEELINGS ON VH?!

Dude, if you could care less about the topic, why are you even here? Why participate in the thread? You seem to care quite a bit. And how am I "crying all over the board"?

i do feel bad for all those that don't wanna hear ed speak ... who want the band to not say things that might be offensive to them ... but the show is story tellers and ed does write almost all the friggin' lyrics and frig if "the avocado" album isn't political then you ain't listening ...

at the end of it tho - i think what many fail to realize is how frustrating it can be for someone with convictions watching the lack of action against a regime that shits in the face of humanity ...

i guess before - many could listen to the songs and like em cuz they can garner their own interpretations but when it comes straight from the horses mouth that it is about this or that ... they just don't wanna hear it ...

I keep coming back to edit, because it's more fun than my work. For example, you probably meant that I "could not care less." Right?

Anyway, you expect to call someone a freak and not have them respond?

  • This was kinda like going on A trivia show, and then not answering any of the questions. Its kinda the point of the show. Coulda been 16 songs with stories, feelings, etc. Instead it was one story, a couple songs, and ALOT of politics. Ed gets to spread his ideas almost nightly. The fans, both conservative and liberal, deserved more. Deserved more stories like the on about Alive.

The fans didn't really "deserve" anything specific from the show. Ed talks about what he wants to talk about, and if the band loses fans over it, then I imagine Ed will probably sleep okay, they've gone out of their way to downsize the fanbase before.

If Ed has anywhere near the level of passion about political issues that he seems to have, there's no way in hell that he's going to address a worldwide television audience and not cover political topics. He'd probably feel like he passed up on a huge opportunity if he didn't.

Besides alive, which songs did we get the interpretations straight from the horses mouth? The songs on the avacado album arent all that cryptic. They really didnt nor do need explanations. I have every right to be disappointed. Thanks for respecting my right to voice my opinions. Open mindedness IS after all, the liberal way. ;)

I think if everyone seriously thinks deep down, they would agree that they wished the band did more STORYS about songs like Black...Elderly Women...Insie Job...Light Years...etc. since we all know Ed hates bush already. I certainly was hoping for more of that.

But it is their stage and they can do what they want. I loved the Alive moment though. And I was hoping for about 5 more of those type of things.

Anyhow, my original intent wasn't to start a discussion about the topics they covered...just wondered what everyone thought about the manner he approached the question about different ideologies. Is Ed for free speech and free will, or does he want a dictatorship just with someone he agrees with doing the job? It is easy to call for free speech and the like but to actually want it in the truest form is far more difficult. I myself have been learning to accept more and more.

Ed is for free speech. He may disagree with what is coming out of your mouth but he said he respected everyones opinions. He just doesn't like right wingers/republicans. I don't even think Eddie likes Democrats for that matter since they are so similar to Republicans in many ways.

I'll be curious to see what the uncut show looks like when it leaks, as I'm sure it will. They only aired less than half of what was performed, so we really don't know (unless one of us was there ... I don't think any of the AMT regulars got in, did they?) how many stories they may have told. I didn't follow it very closely, but I read a few posts right after the taping and I don't recall anyone saying it was all politics all night long. It could have been much more balanced, and that's just what VH-1 chose to air.

Not that I care one way or the other ... I loved what I saw, and can't wait to see the rest.

I think Ed is just like many here are. They don't care about our rights. Or free speech. They just want a leader who mimics their opinions. They want a classless society yet only accept their own idealogies, thereby making a classless "fair" society even more impossible.

I agree with many things Eddie has to say but I seriouly doubt anyone would say they were not in favor of free speech.

    Wasnt really my point.

But its alot easier to point out problems than it is to offer solutions. Many dont seem to know what it is they do want, just what they dont want. And people who are open minded are far and few between.

What a bunch of horseshit. What in God's name do you mean by "our rights" and "free speech"? You don't have a fricking constitutional right to hear the songs your want to hear. You don't have a right to have them interpreted and explained to you in a way that you enjoy, either. No one infringed on your free speech rights, and no one deprived you of a single thing. This is an INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD, not a democracy. You aren't forced to log on and whine, and you aren't entitled to anything from the band, either.

Jesus Horatio Christ, get over it.

Obviously his (or her) comment ticked you off, but you didn't respond to the substance of it at all. I think he's onto something, actually. Would Ed even mention politics if everything (in his mind) was perfect? Would anyone, for that matter?

Sure you did. You complained about how Eddie's like a lot of people on this board; he doesn't really care about "our rights" and "free speech". That statement implied that he somehow ran roughshod over your rights, and it definitely had a whiny quality to it.

Okay, try this. Ed was on a tv show. He was asked a question and gave his opinion. Don't like it? Fuck you, or, as Ed would say, "Fuck 'em".

Theres always two sides to everything. Always will be. Yin/yang whatever you wanna call it. I just dont think these people are as worried about other people as they are the fact that they just dont like the guy in charge. I dont think the liberals give any more of a fuck about the Iraqi people than I do. They just use it as an excuse to push their ideas of what things should be like.
