When did Ed take away anyone's free speech? When did he say "fuck the fan's rights"? Who here honestly thinks that the lead singer of Pearl Jam is Josef Stalin?
I really would like to have someone point out when all that happened.
As for the other band members, they all played the Vote for Change tour - and, if I'm not mistaken, they all donated to candidates running against Bush. I guess the differences are in which lefty candidate each sent his money to.
Also, politics may have been the main reason the band decided to play Storytellers. When was the last time they played a concert on music television (note the lowercase "m" and "t")? When was the last time they released a video? It's entirely possible that their distaste with the current direction of our country played a major part in their recent "friendliness" with major media.
Though I do think it's funny to see people write "well, maybe Mike's a conservative." Maybe compared to Ed; but, then, compared to Ed, so am I.0 -
Milhouse VanHouten wrote:Sure you did. You complained about how Eddie's like a lot of people on this board; he doesn't really care about "our rights" and "free speech". That statement implied that he somehow ran roughshod over your rights, and it definitely had a whiny quality to it.
Thats how YOU chose to interpret my words. Take off your blinders, and try and see what Im actually saying. Others have not only got the jist, but even agreed on some points. You sound more like an angry kid than I have. But thats MY opinion.
And I thought the "fuck em" was just a joke.
I never thought Id see the day that Id go from loving pearl jam because of Eddie, to loving pearl jam despite Eddie. Sad day for me.Why go home

I know you and I do not agree politically...but you are getting a little unfair treatment in this thread...its kinda of a reverse from what I have been reading lately. I have seen some Cons bitching about Ed...okay they can...I have seen Libs bitching about Cons for bitching...but all you are saying is that a more rounded story orientated show is what you wanted to see....you know Ed is political and where he stands so that is not news to yourself...I kinda of feel bad for you in this thread...getting beat up for being disappointed...I see your point kinda of...you mentioned Unplugged with Nirvana..instead of being a great concent which it was...we could have had Kurt bitch about his life for the whole show....all paperplates is saying is that Ed could have put it away for one night and talk about the music...he is not saying that Ed's politics pissed him off cause it isn't news to him where Ed stands....for me I enjoy Ed's views, regardless where he says it...but at the same time I have to be fair to the other side and I completly see your point...some here however don't (or choose to argue) which is too bad...once again getting broke down into left/right and I hate you mentality....people are blowing up your statements....0 -

But its alot easier to point out problems than it is to offer solutions. Many dont seem to know what it is they do want, just what they dont want. And people who are open minded are far and few between.
I agree but Eddie doesn't have to offer solutions if he doesn't want to. I am sure Eddie has solutions/ideas/opinions he is too intelligent to not have them. He seems really pissed off the last 4 years and he wants to vent his anger and I don't blame him one bit. I was listenting to one of the Seattle shows in 2000 when he mentioned the Nader rally that was there during the election and someone was holding up Bush signs. Eddie said something to the effect of I hope they got taken in the back and roughed up a little. So I guess he has been a little bit bent since 2000 and newsflash so are a lot of people in this country.Casper, WY 06/16/95

I'm not entirely sure about what the substance of the post was, other than him/her being so bunched up about Ed/liberals on this board being huge facists or something."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -
PaperPlates wrote:Theres always two sides to everything. Always will be. Yin/yang whatever you wanna call it. I just dont think these people are as worried about other people as they are the fact that they just dont like the guy in charge. I dont think the liberals give any more of a fuck about the Iraqi people than I do. They just use it as an excuse to push their ideas of what things should be like.
I think my honest to gosh biggest beef with extreme liberals is this facade of open-mindedness or free thinking that they espouse. Its a crock of shit. They are every bit as illogical and close-minded as their counterparts on the other end of the spectrum. Of course everything is America's fault. Of course terrorism is a false threat. Of course everything the West does is racist and imperialistic. Why aren't you getting the TRUTH?!
Not saying that Ed Vedder is one of these people, by the way. Just taking an opportunity to point out how similar "radicals" on opposite ends of the political spectrum start to sound. Everything blends together, the farther you go. Why do so many people forsake a middle path?0 -

THank you for that.
Maybe liberalism really is a disease.
That IS all I've tried to say. You said it better than me.
Maybe some of them here are the starry-eyed dipshits sitting front row hanging on Ed's every word.
If you dare disagree with ed, they stop reading beyond that point and immediatley jump down your throat here.
Most of the "lefties" here are about as open-minded as "fuck em" is.Why go home

His original point was he would have liked to see a song meaning related show instead of politics...what is the big deal with wanting that....dont get me wrong I agree with Ed and most of his statements but people have the right to voice their disappointment...which is okay with me....0 -

But that's how some of them sound! Seriously ... You can't see the rigid thought patterns in a lot of the far-far-left posts on here?0 -

This is something that dawned on me lately (the middle path needs people people)...you can be Liberal and still hold other principles...I am sick of this freaking idealogy mind set where these are qualifications for being Lib/Con
Liberal: Must be pro-choice, anti-gun, Kyoto supporting, public everything, i hate war,gay marriage supporter, against capital punishment...blah blah blah
Conservative: pro-life, gun toting, Kyoto hating, no government, war mongering, i hate gays, pro capital punishment blah blah blah
Why the hell in the last few years certain aspects of poliical discussion have suddently been prerequistes for being a certain brand...todays culture has someqhat branded what it means to be Liberal or Conservative...sorry people but you really can be pro-choice, dual heathcare supportive, gay supporter, need something better than Kyoto, gun toting indivdual...sick of generalizations I guess....where has the middle gone????
This "branding" is seriously hurting us as a culture cause we cannot accomplish anything cause we have segagrated ourselves in these mindsets....we need more orginiality out there....0 -

The first one in a while ... Why, was there a spate of "Mike Is Clearly A Republican" posts that I missed? I said that he sounds more moderate than Ed, and someone else said that he probably cares less about politics and more about being a rock star ... I've never read anything suggesting that he attends pro-life rallies and goes deer hunting with the Nuge.0 -

Like i said unless the band comes and joins this pow-wow no one will have a clue, we can only speculate.....0 -

Good post, man ... I don't know what it is, but everything is totally polarized nowadays. Cons and Libs, you're either for us or against us. You hear it in Bush's pro-war rhetoric, and you hear it from the very folks who hate Bush for his pro-war rhetoric. Dialogue is dead, and its a damn shame.0 -

Perhaps--I remember a thread (on the MT I think) where that was happening and El Kabong posted contributions from opensecrets.org. That shut some people up.
Although I could be mixing up that thread with the numerous other ones where some said Mike must be conservative.if you wanna be a friend of mine
