    'the right thing for who beth? and i don't know if he's a friend. all i do know is that davey is mates with toby roberts who sings in the band that dex drums for. doesn't really sound like much of a connection. i'm starting to learn that people's sex lives aren't anybody's business and perhaps it's just better not to ask.'

    the two days arlo told anna he'd be busy for turned into a week. if she had known his address she would've gone over and confronted him. which as it turned out wouldn't have done any good anyway cause he was at his brother's place. as he sat watching the television, anna sat watching him. she had her sketch book out and was working on something. arlo tried his best to ignore her.

    'so tell me, how long has your brother done drugs for?'

    arlo didn't answer.

    I thought you told me you needed me to sit still. But he has been on drugs for so long that I can remember him not being all doped and out off control. I guess it started in his early teens.

    anna asked nothing more and continued to sketch for a couple more minutes. she dropped the book on the floor and moved closer to arlo. he looked at her briefly and smiled. anna ran her hand down his arm and leaning in kissed his shoulder.

    anna stood up and turned the television off. she reached out and took arlo's hand.

    'come on. i need some fresh air.'

    a clap of thunder filled the air and anna jumped. arlo couldn't help but laugh. when anna went to playfully hit him in the chest, arlo grabbed her wrist. they stared at each other before anna squirmed trying to get free. arlo let her go.

    ' i don't like people grabbing my wrist.'

    anna went to get her coat. when she returned arlo was still sitting on the sofa.
