    isabelle smiled and left arlo alone. but she was right. dex broke promises time and time again. it meant nothing to him. arlo would be happier if his brother never promised. then at least there'd be less lies. this incident was the latest in a very long line of actions that could have cost dex his life. more than once arlo found himself hoping that one day he would succeed. it was difficult being your brother's keeper. especially when it was not appreciated. sometimes arlo wondered who he was actually doing it for. was that what he was doing with anna? no, he didn't think so. he found her thrilling. even when she was with davey he couldn't help but be interested. she didn't know him but he sure knew her. he wanted to be around her. to be with her. he wasn't lying to anna when he said he was missing her. being with her and being engulfed by the unknown was a heady thing. he didn't want to get too carried away. that was why he didn't rush off to her now. arlo leaned back on the bed and folded his arms behind his head. closing his eyes and thinking of anna, he wondered whether she was indeed starting without him. he smiled at the thought.
