Also there is virtually no other song on 10,000 Days that could be a successful single... Pearl Jam is filled with them - Pearl Jam could release at least 5 more successful singles whereas I cant see Tool releasing one.
Jambi is Tool's 2nd single. I think it will do quite well.--"I'm like an opening band for the sun"

This isn't evidence pointing to the fact that Tool's sales will continue to slow at a higher rate than PJ's. There are things called outliers in statistics. The 37% decrease compared to 49% should not be taken as concrete evidence pointing to a shift in consumer trends/preferences. The fact that the difference jumped from 1% to 12% does suggest that it could be a statistical outlier. So I don't consider this evidence showing that PJ will overtake Tool. You have not convinced me. Now, if this trend were to continue for, say, 2 more weeks, making it a 3-week trend, then I would consider it strong evidence. But for now, I can't consider it as such until there are further weeks showing a continually widening gap.0 -

haven't read all the posts...but....have to say that tool have been consistently awesome for over ten years. Sure the new record is not a departure from their previous efforts....you definitely know it's tool when you hear it. But for those of us (like myself) who love that tool "sound" we haven't been let down...ever. Pearl Jam will always be tops for me...but i HAVE been let down by some of their records (binaural, riot act). The live experience is hands down pearl jam....that's a no brainer. Pearl jam's live experience is custom made for me, and they will NEVER be #2
cheers,

O_G_D wrote:Pearl Jam is a far more superior band IMO. TOOL does nothing for me. Pearl Jam music will surely stand the test of time against TOOL. I have never seen TOOL live, but i have heard they are good and i probably would enjoy it, but Pearl Jam blows them away IMO in so many different facets. I know this is just strictly an opinion, it just makes me scratch my head when i see a band like TOOL outselling Pearl Jams classic record IMO and getting more radio play. Pearl Jam is working very hard to get the love back from the media and mainstream, but it looks as though some wounds are too deep and they not getting the respect they deserve. I know the band is partially to blame for this, but great work should make an impact regardless of the circumstances. I hope they release COMEBACK. Look the fuck out then. Its not my favourite song off the album, but it would garner huge commercial success and generate interest to new fans and those who are like Pearl Jam had some great music, but are they still around.
can i just say, the music style if different. I know the drummer is extremely good. Just as good as Cameron, i dont play guitar so i cant comment on them. But the vocals, well arn't much vocals but if so maynard is quite good
can i also ask, what albums have you heard from tool ?0 -

no offence to Matt...but the drummer from tool is INSANE. I love Matt, always have...but tool's drummer is fucking crazy.0 -

yup he sure is
I forgot to add, Maynard's lyrics are just INSANE aswell. Just take vicarious for an example. Its just brilliant
yeh, I think cameron is more about complicated beats and stuff. Shame Cameron doesn't do fast fills and stuff like Carey0 -

Mostly keep hearing the new single, and it dont seem like its for me. In no way am i dissint there musical talents. I have heard many a people say how excellent the drummer is. Ironically as we speak the Tool song just came on Edge 102 in Toronto. I don't hate them and if i seen them live im sure i would enjoy it. They are just no where near Pearl Jam on the radar for me. Tool and Pearl Jam happen to be my two favorite bands, and I respect them both very much. I like them just about equally, but in different ways. Pearl Jam is what got me to love music back in 7th grade, but when I was a junior in college Tool really took that love to a much deeper level. I can definitely see how people can be attracted to Pearl Jam and not Tool though (and vice versa). Pearl Jam can catch onto you very quickly, whereas Tool requires a little more attention. They are very different artists who use the same medium in very different ways, that's all. But both are respectable.0

They are both 2 of the greatest bands of their generations, for many similar and different reasons..Can't Touch the Bottom:

Pearl Jam will always be #1 to me no matter what, but...... I must say Tool is right up there not far behind. Ive seen them live and it was like an out of body experience. I dont think I would compare the two-they are so very different.“Peace is not something you wish for; It's something you make, Something you do, Something you are, And it is something you give away.”0

pearl jam lead me to tool. Tool lead me back to pearl jam. both awesome bands. but for me, pink floyd and pearl jam are my #1. Tool is in my top 10 somewhere. i don't really like APC at all.we don't want war, but we still want more?0
-
I'm sorry to say this because I like Tool but they suffer from what ails a lot of bands. They just don't really evolve much as a band or artists....their songs whether they be 10 years old or 1 year old sound pretty similar. They are almost interchangeable at times and to me that is very unexciting.one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother

I like Tool, but I LOVE Pearl Jam....there is no comparison.PEARL JAM - It's what's for breakfast

Tool has put out some good music. I must agree with the above post though, they have not evolved much.0
