    Stone Gossard:
We haven’t sold a lot of tickets in the South lately, so it’s been difficult to organize a tour that gets us there. My good friend at CI Michael Totten has informed me that we’ve lost half the mangroves in the world – these are nature’s fantastic way of protecting coastal environments from storm surges and hurricanes. Looking into wetlands and mangroves in New Orleans would be a great place to start in terms of that particular environment and the natural features that define.

I would love to see the actual #s. I know the crowd was big enough when they played here to justify a return. I get the impression from things Ive read on here, though, that there were venues that didn't sell well. Seems like a cop out statement to me though. If you dont sell well in certain areas of the South then dont plan as many shows. But you can't tell me there arent enough places that would draw good crowds to at least play some dates. I still think they will be back next year sometime, but the whole thing is frustrating. I would rather they tell us to "sell more tickets or go fuck ourselves" than not say anything.

I agree. The '03 Raleigh show, I thought, was packed. Plenty of people on the grass and I don't remember seeing many empty seats under the shelter. For a band that doesn't care about the money, they sure are making a big deal about not selling enough tickets. That's not really fair to a huge group of people. Actually, its called being shit on.

To me that means no south..Just a nicer way ossaying it I guess. In another thread someone mentioned we were reading to much into Stone's answer. Well heck that is pretty clear to me that they do not want to risk coming down here.

but what I do not understand is, if we get a southern states schedule, geesh, there will be a lot of people traveling from all over the US coming to these shows!

I don't want to lose faith, but after looking at the live chat and reading Stone's words..well it made my heart start breaking.

anybody have any idea of a website that shows ticket sales figures past or present? i'd love to know the percentages of unsold seats in each market...i'd bet the south holds its own...

i wonder if this isn't just the latest talking point....first, through jeff they were wistfully confused....we're not playing places we should be....so now it's somehow due to not selling well in the south? hogwash!

    prove it.

i can't patronize the band if i wanted to (even if i overlooked the obvious 'fuck you' they seem to be giving us) because i couldn't afford to travel so far, especially without knowing that if i wanted to see them at all i'd have to travel to do so

and yes, now i'm really starting to see it as an intentional skip. the thread about stone's chat and there's another one about when's the last time pearl jam didn't sell out a show that includes the gorge and australia and others.....kinda says it all to me. some of the australia shows are only HALF SOLD. hauling all your shit to australia on a 16 hour plane flight can't possibly be more economically beneficial than hauling it a few hours down south on 8 or 10 trucks for some shows that are more like 90% sold out

to quote one of my favorites:

why would you want to hurt me?
    so frightened of your pain...

Maybe we can have a special donation table for Conservation international at the shows, to help with negative impact travel causes. If we all donate a little will you play the south? I would gladly donate. Even if they dont show up down here I will vow to donate yearly to them. That chat with Stone made me think just like they made me think how great the Surfrider Foundation is. As a scuba diver the worlds oceans touch my heart and I want to enjoy them for many years to come. Pearl jam has made me a member with them since 2000. Come to Florida please??!!

Although doanting to a good cause is nice, We shouldn't have to do that in order to get shows down here. That's ridiculous. If the rest of the country didn't have to do it...why should we have to fulfill certain requirements in order to get SOME shows? Know what I mean? :o

Our 10C membership renewals year after year should be enough "requisite" to get shows down here :(

Not a donation just to get a show but to help the cause because we are responsible. We want the guys to play and we want them to play a sold out show? Sold out shows mean a lot of traveling people and a lot of potential damage is created. I know the south is home to ALOT of fans. I was just thinking this is such an important cause to the boys and they are an important part of our lives. If that is a major reason in not touring the south lets help out. A donation not an automatic fee tacked on. I love the boys and want a show, if this is a major piece in the decision to not come here I will do my part to help offset. It was just an idea. See ya at the shows! (hopefully)
