oh i agree....i think it's downright odd, especially for such an environmentally conscious band. 4 shows hardly seems worth the time/effort/expense of going over, especially BEFORE the album release.
Unless of course Backspacer is being used to transport of the kit and personnel? Maybe four shows is all its flippers could manage?
it seems very strange that they would just cut out SPAIN, ITALY, FRANCE, GREECE, BELGIUM etc.......
why fly over for a week? if they have more dates planned why are they not telling us?
i was speaking to a few colleagues today about deciding if i should buy tickets or not, and they basically said "why would they not announce the entire tour at once?" another person said "this isin't KISS we're talking about. i thought pearl jam was a band for the fans and not for money".
i really wish they would read this thread and listen to what we are all saying.
i thought pearl jam was a band for the fans and not for money". .
Why this complete misconception of what a band is? PJ (or any other band/artist) do not play for us out of the goodness of their own heart (they would then be doing free concerts everytime!). PJ is their day job, they ARE in it for the money. Obviously, being a creative 'job' (like any artist), they naturally cater for their 'customers needs' (if one can call wanting to seem them live a 'need') and tastes (after all, they do need to sell their records and if they are not to our taste, we will not buy).
Can people just not accept that they prefer waiting until things are more or less confirmed in their books? Could there not be other contractural arrangements with the promoters, etc?
I can't make my hometown date. I could do a mad hop over to Rotterdam. I would really like to know if they are definitely doing a 'proper' tour. I need to plan just like everyone else but if your life/holidays/finances revolve around PJ dates, I just don't know what to say.....

Maybe, just like some fans who plan their hols around PJ, PJ are planning their hols in Europe and they thought they might just fit in a gig or two in between sightseeing!

Read the thread: They've announced full legs in the past - why not now? And as for our lives revolving around PJ dates, it's not like they tour every year, or even every other year. People who live in Texas tell me that this band hasn't played here in 6 years. And while they ARE playing ACL this year, not everyone wants to pay $100 to go stand in the sun for 8 or so hours and then get to see them play while standing in a crowd of 20,000 people.

only if i had no other option would i see them in a festival now. 33 times live and only 1 festival.
living in europe it seems like that's the case now though. 4 shows???
imagine it was vice versa?
i don't want to whine and moan. it just seems very strange to say the least. i'm sure many of the other european fans feel the same way.
i anxiously await ALL the other touring news to come after the euroshow sales are done......hopefully within the next 2 weeks! be GREAt to know the gameplan for the rest of the year!

oh i agree, probably gonna have some fun with their families over there...but it still seems like a lot of *work* and expense, for 4 shows is all......just thinking, if they're over there, they might as well have planned MORE, that's all!
It's better when the whole tour is released at once, Springsteen drip-fed his last 2-3 tours rather than announce them properly, caused no end of problems.
If there is to be more European shows then an announcement of the new album and dates once these 4 are sold out would take advantage of the perceived greater demand.
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
Yes, it IS a totally different feel in a festival environment I'm sure. I feel like the "brotherhood" thing that fans have going on between themselves and the band would be totally lost. I also think that in 2010 Europe, and other regions like S. America and Australia will get some shows along with probably lots of cities in the US. Somebody on this thread mentioned this earlier and I tend to agree with him/her.

I think ACL is more like 60,000 or 80,000, no? That's me. I live somewhat close to Austin Texas, not super close but not as far as the last couple of tours have hit, and I just don't think it'd be worth all the money to watch them on a big screen in a park with tens of thousands of people... no thanks. I want my $75 ten club ticket in the first 10 rows, please. We need a tour of just some regular shows, enough with the festivals already.

I was going to pass on ACL (but do a couple of weeks of shows before)... bu just heard my second favorite band (State Radio) is playing it too, so I have no choice now
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."
I would LOVE a full tour announcement tomorrow, but I don't think it's going to happen. I think a lot of the "fragmentation" is a venue issue, but who knows.
But I second Pegasus' original plea to announce as much info as possible at one time so people can plan. I am on the west coast, so I am just sitting here waiting, hoping that all the rumors of a west coast swing are true. I mean it looks good, but if something happens, and they don't hit the left coast, I'm going to be left scrambling.
So, here's to more dates... more information...oh,and the Gorge please. Nothing beats it!

please i hope they do announce evrything at once surely they must know people have to plan out everything that comes with hitting the road for a few shows  ...

Simple explanation...They know and they don't care...Simple as that...Take or leave it attitude they have towards the fan club members now...
Jeremy
why do they do this?
i think they care.
i think they just don't realize how hard this is on the fans trying to plan trips and vacations.

when I created this thread I wasn't even thinking that they might be announcing things THAT fragmented! :?
this is ridiculous!
