If they could go so far as to tell us which US states are being played, like all at one time, that would be helpful. I'm not going to buy tickets to a Cali show if they're playing in Colorado or Arizona. Or...gasp....New Mexico. (ha ha, good one)
So if they do announce they are working on confirming dates in Europe/various US States, what happens if, for example, they are planning dates in New York and the UK. New Yorkers are cool - they will have a date. UK people are cool too - they will have a date, so no plans to travel made. BUT as these dates would only have been 'planned', things can still fall through. Say UK falls through once dates are confirmed (usually tix go on sale quite quickly after that).... can you imagine the mayhem on this board? There would be no end to complaints....

Actualy I don't have a problem with the "tweet" thing. I just don't like "Tweet - Here are the tour dates!!" and then 2 months later "Tweet - Here is the next leg!" with no mention of whether or not there will be any more tweets.
Tweet and then release all of them at once. If there are 75 shows, just put them all out there. Its not that hard and they used to do for every tour.
I'm not "in the business"... but I would think that the chances of a show falling through are fairly low-especially if they're playing large venues or venues they've played before. Venues are basically owned/managed by the same groups of folks like everything else in the US.
I'd be willing to take the risk of a show falling through in order to have all the information on all the cities in the US at one time. I would think that Euros, S Americans, Australians etc would feel the same about their own geographical areas. And most folks will want to go to at least 2 or 3 shows in their geographical regions. If one falls through, at least there are 1 or 2 sure things.
Just my own feelings about what you've said. I know there are lots of differing opinions on this board.

Well, ACl is announced Tuesday. I fugure we will find out tour dates maybe 2 or 3 weeks after that. I am curious if they have a deal with these festivals not to announce dates for a few weeks until after the lineups are announced and if they can only play cities with in certain limits of them, sort of like Bonnaroo.

This is a real stretch, and I know I'm thinking emotionally, but I'm hoping that PJ playing ACL in very first part of October also means that they'll be playing Houston or Dallas or BOTH either end of Sept. or following ACL. That would be so AWESOME.....but I NEED TO KNOW for economic reasons!!!

I agree to this idea. Not that I can afford or intend to really travel, but it just makes sense to announce a tour all at once... I thought this was how it was always done. Also, I hate the whole marketing to sell tickets theory, especially for a band like Pearl Jam, who will definitely sell plenty of tickets. I'm not saying that the theory is wrong, I just find it disappointing when fans/customers are treated in sneaky ways.
Don't let us earopeans fly to the states for nothing!!

will never happen. They like the fact that people will buy tickets in a crazed haze and then buy even more tickets when the band actually plays your neck of the woods..I feel that most pearl jam fans would rather see the band three or four times than see a festival type show. An example would be... announcing a huge festival and then a month later announcing much cooler, smaller shows surrounding the festival. . Is it mean? Yes. Does it put us fans in a bad spot? yes.. but i guess if we had a little self control it wouldn't be so easy to dupe us

well for me, if a festival is my only way of seeing pearl jam live...more than likely, i pass. my days of truly enjoying festivals are long gone, tho quite honestly, they were never really my thing. as of right now, if all pj play is SF and ACL...even if 10c announced 'that's it!' i still wouldn't be going. sure, maybe...just maybe...i'd consider it if it were closer to home, but honestly...doubtful. that said, anyone who hits up the festivals, i hope they have a BLAST!
i DO truly wish and hope that 10c will return to announcing a FULL TOUR so we ALL can make informed decisions. hell, i traveled to europe to see pj in 2006, AFTER seeing them 3x i think right here at home! so for me it's not just about going and hitting *any* shows to catch pj, it's just a good excuse to help me plan a good itinterary ....and sure, it's great fun to combine travel and pj! however, that isn't always possible...so you bet....it just would be NICE to know, one way or another........

Ahhh Italia I had to laugh in Jeff's interview when he said he hoped it didn't rain the next time they played Verona... and I think it added to the show even if I was still drying my shoes out in Milano I agree though a full tour announcement at once would be great but not the end of my world.

cmon now....not end your world? what kinda fan are you? :P
seriously...i agree........but you bet, while on the subject...i'll ALWAYS weigh in with my 2 cents, which let's face it....usally turns into 25 cents ....that it most definitely is a GREAT IDEA to announce a FULL TOUR all at ONCE. but hey, i'm a dreamer........;)
ahhhhhhhhhh.....verona............hell, all of italy, what a trip! what shows! what company! what food and drink!
bellissimo!
however, THIS year.....i am really hoping they somehow do come back to NYC vicinity (and yes i know they show us a LOT of love here).....but i too hope they hit LOTs of spots elsewhere too! i just really should be well-behaved this year, and i really want to be (or try to be)....so if they don't come my way, it may be just too tempting to resist, and that's just not good......

and seriously...that is NOT the kind of *encouragement* i need, at all. i am quite easily, and naturally....not very well-behaved to begin with, i have not been well-behaved at all these past few years.....and while i do prefer to dream ......'reality'...especially in 2009, is just far too real to ignore...so yes, i really AM trying, and wanting, to be well-behaved. that said, we'll see what announcements come down the road...and hell, i could win the lottery before then, hit some unexpected windfall...who knows?
sooooooooo looking forward to announcements!
on that note, have a GREAt and beautiful weekend all!
If Jeff's interview on that Missoula radio is to be believed, the band will be doing some dates in Europe this year.
Even if the exact dates/places are not set in stone, could 10c please, please, please confirm if they WILL indeed come to Europe when announcing the US dates? (assuming the US dates are first, might actually not be)... even if no exact countries are mentioned, just that there'll be some dates (if there are any planned of course).
That way, Europeans (and East coasters possibly) will be able to make an informed decision on whether/where to travel.
yes, I know, there'll be annoying people bugging you for exact dates/places if there's no details, but that'll be less than pissed off people because they've bought US tickets (that you won't allow to transfer) only to find out a months later they had a gig at home/nearby (not everyone reads the boards for rumours.. and anyway 2003 taught us not to rely on rumours for deciding where to go or not ).
If nothing else, you can help the planet by avoiding people making unnecessary long haul flights
Thanks
well, yes, ok, I'll be still doing some US dates to see my friends and celebrate my birthday, but I'm an hopeless case and not the norm

Should be a great weekend so enjoy and see you around these parts on Monday
There would be no end to complaints....
they can just say it's not 100%.
and we'll know if it doesn't happen before either dates happen... it's much easier to make a last minute trip (there's ALWAYS tickets to be found), than cancelling one (on which you can't get flights and tickets refunds).
by the look of the tweet, seems the point is moot this time and they're going to do Europe first (I don't think there should be any doubt in anybody's mind that there'll be US dates besides the 2 festivals).
Still, when they announce Europe on Monday, they should at least confirm there'll be US dates in say the SW and West Coast, even if they're not listing them..just for the yanks peace of mind (and east coaster in particular that might be tempted to rough it up with us here if they don't have local shows.. you're welcome guys ).
simply a "West Coast and Southern US dates to be announced in a few weeks" at the end would be appreciated.

Hi,
It is all a marketing techinque....Not trying to be negative...My venting is over..
Comments
Let's keep this going until the "tweet" finally gets here!
The info can be very general...
For example:
The US: the Fall 09'
South America: Winter 09'/'10
Europe: Winter/Spring 10'
Such a basic amount of info but I hope 10c realizes how incredibly helpful this info can be!!

Don't let us earopeans fly to the states for nothing!!
well for me, if a festival is my only way of seeing pearl jam live...more than likely, i pass. my days of truly enjoying festivals are long gone, tho quite honestly, they were never really my thing. as of right now, if all pj play is SF and ACL...even if 10c announced 'that's it!' i still wouldn't be going. sure, maybe...just maybe...i'd consider it if it were closer to home, but honestly...doubtful. that said, anyone who hits up the festivals, i hope they have a BLAST!
i DO truly wish and hope that 10c will return to announcing a FULL TOUR so we ALL can make informed decisions. hell, i traveled to europe to see pj in 2006, AFTER seeing them 3x i think right here at home! so for me it's not just about going and hitting *any* shows to catch pj, it's just a good excuse to help me plan a good itinterary

Ahhh Italia
cmon now....not end your world? what kinda fan are you?
seriously...i agree........but you bet, while on the subject...i'll ALWAYS weigh in with my 2 cents, which let's face it....usally turns into 25 cents
ahhhhhhhhhh.....verona............hell, all of italy, what a trip! what shows! what company! what food and drink!
bellissimo!
however, THIS year.....i am really hoping they somehow do come back to NYC vicinity (and yes i know they show us a LOT of love here).....but i too hope they hit LOTs of spots elsewhere too! i just really should be well-behaved this year, and i really want to be (or try to be)....so if they don't come my way, it may be just too tempting to resist, and that's just not good......

Well your 25 cents is worth almost a dollar here in Canada
Haha I know I am some slackass fan
I should be well behaved this year as well but what fun is that?
ha, i'd be up for some east coast canada dates then, so affordable!
and seriously...that is NOT the kind of *encouragement* i need, at all. i am quite easily, and naturally....not very well-behaved to begin with, i have not been well-behaved at all these past few years.....and while i do prefer to dream
sooooooooo looking forward to announcements!
on that note, have a GREAt and beautiful weekend all!

tweet alert!!!!!!!!!!
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
HAHA yes but they can't play there again until I move back
Me? A bad influence? *adjusts halo* Ahem, never
Should be a great weekend so enjoy and see you around these parts on Monday
and we'll know if it doesn't happen before either dates happen... it's much easier to make a last minute trip (there's ALWAYS tickets to be found), than cancelling one (on which you can't get flights and tickets refunds).
by the look of the tweet, seems the point is moot this time and they're going to do Europe first (I don't think there should be any doubt in anybody's mind that there'll be US dates besides the 2 festivals).
Still, when they announce Europe on Monday, they should at least confirm there'll be US dates in say the SW and West Coast, even if they're not listing them..just for the yanks peace of mind (and east coaster in particular that might be tempted to rough it up with us here if they don't have local shows.. you're welcome guys
simply a "West Coast and Southern US dates to be announced in a few weeks" at the end would be appreciated.
Hi,
