1. Ten (classic, not a single bad song) 2. Vitalogy (classic, like the way it sounds: very raw production, killer songs like "Whipping" and "Corduroy") 3. Yield (collection of really great tunes, killer vocal melodies & guitar riffs) 4. Vs. (rough and excellent follower to Ten, good rockers & nice melodies on slower songs) 5. No Code (lazy, not so good songs, packagin is great thou) 6. Binaural (saw PJ 1st time on this album's tour, some good songs, best of Cameron era) 7. Riot Act (lacks something, but still some classic songs like "I am mine" and "Get Right") 8. S/T (first three are great, but can't beat earlier similar works like "animal", "last exit" or "go")

wow, that looks shitty... especially with how much I love 7 -9. I've never thought of them as my least favorite, just as their other albums. Take the filler off of Vitalogy & it would easily be in the top 4. It also wouldn't take much to bump Binaural up also... like adding Sad, Fatal & In the Moonlight. Also, before the reissue, Ten was hovering around last, but I've come to appreciate the album again.

It is way too early to slot Backspacer in to this list. In fact, I think now is just the right time to give a fair overall assessment of where S/T fits in ...
1996: Toronto
1998: Barrie
2000: Saratoga Springs
2003: Buffalo, Toronto
2005: Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto
2006: Toronto x2, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Gorge #1
2007: London, Dusseldorf, Vic, Lolla
2008: WPB, Tampa, DC, MSG x2, Hartford, Boston x2, Beacon
2009: Toronto, Chicago x2, Seattle x2, LA #3&4, San Diego, Philly x4
2010: Cleveland, Buffalo, Hartford
2011: Montreal, Toronto x2, Hamilton
2012: Missoula
2013: London, Wrigley, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Hartford, Dallas, OKC
I've been listening to Ten the least these days thus its position and I do agree that ranking Backspacer is a bit too early knowing how I'll usually listening to their newer records when its just released.
better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand year as a lamb
1. Ten, - am not a fan of people who always say that a bands early stuff was their best, but I just cannot deny the feeling I get whenever I hear this album. The re-issue has even reminded me how unbelievable it truly was for a "debut" album. Not too many bands have an album that is completely classic. Led Zepplins first is the only one that compares for me.
2. Everything else. I think all the other albums have ups and downs. But most of them are very good. The songs seem to take on a new life once they begin performing them live. Songs like STBC and Save you are sort of throw aways on the albums for me, but in concert they are usually some of my favorites.
Agree that it is really early to rank Backspacer, but I am thinking that 5 to 6 years from now when the songs have all been played live a lot and taken on their new life it will go down as another great album that takes you on a ride from start to finish.
What a great f'n band

* Binaural is a better record overall than Vitalogy, but the big 4 (BM, NM, Cord, Immor) give it the edge.
* Riot act and Avocado are at the bottom, but Inside Job, Come Back, I am Mine, and Love Boat Captain are in my list of Top Ten Pearl Jam songs.
