oh shit. you're right. i guess i was thinking la was still a game back. fuck it.

    is that the rendell book?

i finished the paterno book faster than i've finished any book in a long ass time. that dude lived an interesting life. plus you know the sandusky stuff doesn't really get touched upon till the end so it kind of makes you read through faster to get to it.

    Yeah, moot point

Yeah, by Bissinger. It's pretty crazy. I knew nothing about Philadelphia in that time and it gives you a real good look at him trying to turn the city around. Awesome book though. Bissinger is an asshole but a great writer.

Nice, yeah, I am really looking forward to it. I did hear an interview of Posnanski where he talked about how the Sandusky stuff was at the end. Posnanski seems like the perfect guy to write a book like that. He talked a lot about how he didn't want to influence people's opinions and that his goal was to give them a story and let them make up their mind.

buzz bissinger is great. 3 nights in august is the best baseball book I have read.

also, ryan howard sucks big sweaty hairy balls. let ruf play

He has a really good profile of Gabby Douglas in the most recent Vanity Fair too. He is a gigantic asshole, but one hell of a writer.

does anyone here think utley can play an effective 3B? I love the guy but I think that is a disaster waiting to happen. If they are going to try it they might as well do it now.

Yeah I don't see it. I guess you can try in spring training, but that would screw up the offseason.

I hate the idea. It's a whole new world over there at 3rd. Some will note that A-Rod and Cal Ripkin transitioned fine from SS to 3B but that's a much easier transition. 2nd base is far and away the easiest position in Baseball.

    NO.

Utley was a average fielding 2nd baseman. And that was in his prime.

Also agree that it would be a disater.

What the heck is easier than 2nd base? Some would argue 1st base but Utley sure isn't gonna be playing there. And you have to deal with fielding tough throws from SS/3B. I dunno, I played 2nd base in high school and it was a cakewalk. A THOUSAND TIMES EASIER than shortstop or outfield.

And what the heck is this "major fail" bullshit? Agree, disagree, or whatever. But fucking elaborate.

Any OF position and 1B are easier than 2B. Not to mention "closer".

Turning a double play with your back to the runner trying to take you out has to be one of the hardest things in sports.

I think OF is harder then 2nd base. 2nd base is the easiest spot on the diamond imo. Chase and his side arm throw would have 20 throwing errors easily.

Dude, have you ever played Center Field? It's fucking hard. I agree with you about turning a double play being difficult...but I don't think it's as difficult as digging out low throws at 1B

You might have an argument for CF but LF & RF are places where you hide guys like Greg Luzinski. You can't hide anyone at 2B.

Yeah I know. I should have said 2nd base is the easiest position on the diamond. And I know everyone thinks 1B is easier but I'm just talking from experience. I played baseball from age 9 to age 18 and I always played 2B, SS, and CF. But I had to play three stray games at 1B because the kid who usually played it crashed his ATV into a tree and was injured. I hated it. I very much struggled with throws in the dirt. With practice I guess it can be easy enough. But between 2nd, short, and center....2nd was by far the easiest.
