Should i be worried that Jimmy Rollins is leading the team in Batting average (leader by default, no else qualifies with as many plate appearances yet), home runs, runs, rbi's, hits, walks, and doubles? :? and probably pop ups

    Very strange season.

So a couple months ago I said to my wife, when we were like 30 games out of the playoffs, "I bet we make it close enough for them to send out a playoff invoice."

Well, lo & behold today came the playoff invoice.

Div Series Game 2 (we would get first two at home, then go on road for last 3), NLCS Game 3, World Series Game 2. Not too bad. Too bad we only have a "5.0%" chance of making the playoffs.

fucking astros and their stupid screaming (whistling?) fans. this series sounds like it's being played at a high school field. atmosphere could not be worse. the al can have them.

at least the dodgers won. i felt we needed to to be 2 back by end of weekend to have a decent shot. at least that is still possible...

The Houston Astros always worry me. They've sucked for the past few years but they always seem to have our number.

    i rest my case

    what?

a win by the phils and a loss by the cards would have done it yesterday. alas it was not to be.

you read the paterno book yet? i finished it when i was down the shore the other week. great read. i actually never knew how close he came to becoming coach/part owner of the pats.

Weren't the cards and dodgers tied for the final spot with the Phillies 3 games back? So if the Cards and the Phillies won, they'd be 3 games behind the cards and if the Dodgers won they'd be 3 games behind the Dodgers? One of those times a team couldn't make up ground since the two other teams were tied.

I haven't yet. In the middle of Prayer For A City right now. A book that should be required reading for everyone from Philadelphia. Oustanding. I plan on it when I finish this though. Yeah, he was very close to leaving, not familiar with ownership details though. Looking forward to reading it though.

oh shit. you're right. i guess i was thinking la was still a game back. fuck it.

    is that the rendell book?

i finished the paterno book faster than i've finished any book in a long ass time. that dude lived an interesting life. plus you know the sandusky stuff doesn't really get touched upon till the end so it kind of makes you read through faster to get to it.

    Yeah, moot point

Yeah, by Bissinger. It's pretty crazy. I knew nothing about Philadelphia in that time and it gives you a real good look at him trying to turn the city around. Awesome book though. Bissinger is an asshole but a great writer.

Nice, yeah, I am really looking forward to it. I did hear an interview of Posnanski where he talked about how the Sandusky stuff was at the end. Posnanski seems like the perfect guy to write a book like that. He talked a lot about how he didn't want to influence people's opinions and that his goal was to give them a story and let them make up their mind.
