His pay for this year is done. We're talking about singing him past this year to an extension. Our boy Cliff here is licking his lips hoping that an extension doesn't get done and those douchebags in the Bronx sign him next offseason.0 -

JP was talking long term. He's starting to get worried about the possibility of Hamels moving 90 miles north.0 -

"We thought about just going for it, and filing for a number [of about $17 million], but we thought this was fair. Our sights are now set on free agency. At some point, we'll talk to the Phillies about that.'' Noting the unpredictable nature of free agency, Boggs sang his client's praises and added, "Pitching is something everybody will always be clamoring for. That never changes."

This sounds more optimistic:

Amaro said talks with Hamels "probably" will take place in spring training and confirmed that he wanted to first negotiate a one-year deal for the lefthander.Spectrum 10/27/09; New Orleans JazzFest 5/1/10; Made in America 9/2/12; Phila, PA 10/21/13; Phila, PA 10/22/13; Baltimore Arena 10/27/13; Phila, PA 4/28/16; Phila, PA 4/29/16; Fenway Park 8/7/16; Fenway Park 9/2/18; Asbury Park 9/18/21; Camden 9/14/22; Las Vegas 5/16/24; Las Vegas 5/18/24; Phila, PA 9/7/24; Phila, PA 9/9/24; Baltimore Arena 9/12/24; Pittsburgh 5/16/25; Pittsburgh 5/18/25

Makes sense. MLBTR didn't have that one posted. Gonna take a big number though, will be really interesting. There's a huge number waiting for him in 30 or so starts. I'm not even all that optimistic that the Yankees would sign him even if he did get there next year, lot's of big market teams would be in the running for him. Yankees, Boston, Cubs and Nationals, for sure. Marlins maybe, Angels maybe. Dodgers could go big if the new ownership is in place.
I'm a lot less desperate for the Yanks to get big time pitching after Friday's trade too.0 -
I'd say more than the Weaver deal. I think a 5 yr 90 or 95 will do it.0

I think Hamels will (should) laugh at anything under $100. The Weaver deal is a bargain. I can't see how you can get under $20mil AAV. How can it not match Lee's deal considering age and what the market will be for him?
Will be interesting to see what happens, especially if Cain signs before him.
Edit: And when the Phillies are paying well above market for closers, I would imagine Hamels will certainly want what he deserves0 -
