Anyone know about these Miller Ale houses that are popping up?

Not really, but if it's what I just googled then it looks like just another bar & grill.

mckenzies sucks too? i've seen a couple of those pop up recently.

The one in Frazer - or is it Malvern? - has been around a while, as well as the one down 202 near the border of Delaware. So those two I can vouch for - they blow; way overrated.

It's just that the suburbs flat out suck and people hope for anything that looks mildly promising because everything's shit. Victory's spot and that Craft Ale House near you are definitely worth the trips though. Flying Pig in Malvern too(not as much the food, but the shit load of different beers).

TJ's in Paoli is awesome. That place can stand up to city gastropubs. Unfortunately it has been pretty crowded the last few times I went - it's catching on. I'm glad they are doing well though. They need to bring back their pork belly BLT. I always meet my buddy their for the annual Thursday afternoon Temple 1st round tourney game. Last year was so much fun with PSU & TU fans there.

Iron Hill has great beer and solid food, and maybe it's a bit overpriced on certain things. Service is always great and it's a good place for families, and as the article says they are all located in former decent-restaurant deserts.

McKenzie's has a new location around the corner from my office, and yeah, we kind of take what we can get around here. Agree with JP that it's overrated, though I'd say it's decent enough.

I grew up in SW Philly but have lived in Havertown for over 5 years now. I miss the city, but I kind of don't. Lot of things about living in the city really blow, and it's 20-30 minutes away to go in and do anything.

Dude, I am interested in these. Let me know if you're gonna hit them.

We used to do the Royal Stumble at Nodding Head and the Manyunk Beer Festival every year. Haven't been to one of these in years. They are always a good time. Nothing better than walking out of there completely shitfaced...just in time to head to happy hour :D

Yeah, dude. I'm gonna try and do the Big Ass Beer Fest next weekend. Not sure if that's doable for you with everything but they are highlighting beers over 8% so it should be a nice shit show.

The brewers plate sounds sweet but more laid back. Have a few people that are planning on the Philly Beer Fest, which is just okay from a beer standpoint, but should be a good time.

Yea, this place is the shit. And a great butcher shop around the corner from there (Worrell's) - i go with a guy from work on Good Friday - he picks up a baby lamb for Easter after lunch at Flying Pig.

    JP, you'd really like TJ's. http://www.tjseveryday.com/

Johnny, have been TJ's an endless amount of times. Should have mentioned it as well. Love that place. They used to have this ahi tuna panini that was amazing. A buddy of mine lives right behind there so we end up there whenever I'm at his place.

Ok, cool. That figures. ;) I only wish I didn't have to drive there. 2 big beers and that's about it.

That's the thing - anything in the 'burbs is all over the place and there always has to be a plan as to driving, blah blah blah. Either that or running The Gaunlet down 30. Which is awful and make you poop your pants.

I'm definitely in for the one on 3/3. Putting together a group of degerates. That's prob the only one that I'm going to realistically make. Will be a nice warmup for the NO trip. Did you get tix yet?

Sounds good dude, we'll definitely end up doing that one. I haven't gotten tickets, going to send an email around today and get tickets soon, probably. I'll let you know.

As a leading proponent of making this thread about everything and anything but baseball I appreciate this statement.

Aaaaaaannnnd probably my best devil's advocate piece to link in here. This is especially for you Fixer, buddy. Nothing like the proceeding article to keep this thread going.... http://talksportsphilly.com/2012/01/dig ... an-howard/

Texeiras numbers have taken a huge kick in the balls the past two years, there's no arguing that. The decision between those two will have to be how they perform here on out. I'll put my money on Tex, probably because I'm a fan. The other 3 are clearly better and deserve bigger contracts.

    Gotta love this logic though...

To justify a bounce back from Howard he assumes he will be 100% after his injury

Howard may have originally caused his Achillies tendon problem in August of 2010 in Washington. Hopefully his numbers bounce back once he is fully healthy.

Then to say Fielder is going to get worse he assumes a younger player is going to get hurt, a player who has missed a total of 1 game in 3 years.

As Fielder gets older, his overweight-ness will only slow him down both offensively and defensively. Anyone reading this must’ve seen Fielder on TV or in person at least once in their lifetime and must notice that Fielder is swinging as hard as he possibly can at any given moment. That type of over exersion may ultimately lead to a shoulder or elbow injury.

So a younger Fielder is going to get hurt more often than an older and already injured Howard. Makes sense.

It's funny how anyone can skew what they write to be in favor of what they're trying to say.

No doubt, a writer can always come to the conclusion their looking for. I am pretty sure this guy wasn't suprised with the outcome of his "research"

It's pretty ridiculous to call this a smart move by Ruben, obviously.

I still say that Howard practically carried the offense in the first half of 2011, but of course he was terrible the 2nd half and playoffs. It did seem like he hasn't been the same since that ankle injury in August 2010 - I thought he was having a pretty solid season before that. Of course that's a problem with overly long contracts - the risk of injury.

I would take the Howard contract over the Texeira contract even today.

As I said, we're Phillies fans (well most of us here, some are spectators  ), so all we can hope is that he gets healthy and returns to previous form. I mean, I don't think he's ever gonna be a 20% strikeout guy or a .300 hitter (although I think he did hit .300 with RISP, which is apparently meaningless  ), just have to hope he gets his power back and has some more productive seasons.
