    aaaaaaaaand BOOM.

contract negotiations tend to come to fruition when a deadline looms people. especially for someone who knows how in-demand he will be in once the season ends. it's been funny watching people freak out over a, seemingly, hourly basis these last 4 months. ha.

congrats to cole. good job ruben (as unpopular with most fans as that is to say right now).

    :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Yeah, I'm very happy this morning. Day off, heading to the game, ready to see the shitty Brewers bullpen again. (K-Rod :lol::lol: ) Then going to Village Whiskey.

And our FRANCHISE PITCHER IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE! :D:D:D

    Thank fuckin' Christ.

Trade Pence. The worst thing they can do is go on a winning streak.

.....but it is possible for them to go 44-20 though....

    46-18 to win 90 games.

The way Doc is looking, not a chance in hell.

Give him credit for letting Hamels hold him hostage? Amaro was practically held at gun point to give Cole as much as he wanted. And it's all Amaro's fault. If he wanted to cost control this roster, and Hamels specifically, then he should have overpaid him last year or the year before. And that overpaid contract would look like a bargain right now.

I'll give credit to Amaro on most of his trades, but not on his handling of finances and projecting this team any further than today.

My thing is do you think he's A) injured and needs an offseason to put it back together, or B) he's declining? I'm thinking A because there's no way you can lose that much movement and velocity on your pitches in just 4-6 months. It's usually more of a gradual decline than that.

Definitely A. Well, we have to think that, don't we?

If he doesn't get it back together soon I'd think about shutting him down. I'm all about 2013.

Absolutely. I'd open up that spot to that Cloyd kid even though he's not on the 40-man yet. Might as well see what ya got. Trade Pence, Victorino, and Pierre ASAP. Reload for next year. One can only hope that Amaro spends the money more wisely.

The trades to acquire Lee & Halladay have been good. Some other ones not so much.

Lee was a steal(and I'm still a fan of what Amaro did with trading Lee and then signing him back), Halladay was solid, Horst for Valdez has already paid off (though I get not having more depth in the infield), Wigginton trade was decent (gave up nothing and aren't paying half his salary this year - it's not his fault that he's been playing nearly everyday), Oswalt was a stud in the second half of 2010, Pence the same in 2011. These are just a handful off the top of my head. He really has been decent in trades, just not the whole finance/economics part of cost control in the long-term. But please, don't adress the part of my comments where we're talking strictly about the Hamels extension so you can ignore anything you have stated and only what I have.

Amaro's downfall hasn't been trades; it's been signing FA's and re-signing players when he should have been more shrewd.

Dude NOBODY is giving Amaro credit for how he handled contracts over the past few years. But getting this Hamels thing done is huge....especially considering it may be one of his last moves as GM.

And Oswalt and Pence being "studs" for half a season each isn't all that great a thing. Especially considering how awful Pence was in the playoffs

No? If it ended up with a WS - which was the reason for those moves - then he'd be a genius. And, no not tearing up down the stretch in both moves means nothing. And, if you'd know, the playoffs are an absolute crapshoot, and both trades put them in the best position to win during those seasons.

And where, pray tell, is Amaro going?

I'm still trying to figure out why Amaro deserves credit for pulling off a last-ditch, desperate, effort to sign a guy they should've signed 1-2 years ago.

Well I think every move has put the Phillies in the position to win over the last two seasons. But once it didn't happen, we're kinda on damage control now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pence and maybe even Lee get traded. We need to rebuild the farm-system.

Live in the moment dude. We should have signed Cole two years ago. We should have never given Howard that moronic contact. We should have gone with Lee OR Halladay, not both. But there's nothing we can do now. At least today, July 25, 2012, something good happened.

As for Amaro, how much longer can the organization deal with this? He's gonna bankrupt them.

Look, I'm just happy to see Hamels back. And since The Fixer has a obsession with Amaro's incompetence (as well as Tom McCarthy's man-boobs), it's funny to implore him to give Amaro credit.

•The A’s are still looking to add, Knobler reports. They have been scouting Stephen Drew, have had interest in Yunel Escobar, and have considered the possibility of bringing Oakland native Jimmy Rollins back to the Bay Area.

Love ya, James, but don't let the door hit ya in the ass.

But I kid, I kid.....he's got 10-and-5 rights, why the hell would he wanna go there? Yeah, I guess they're in a race.

Let's not start sucking each other's D just yet. They need to go like 9-1 over the next ten for me to say they have a legit shot at getting back in this.

I know. Our pitching has to show it can actually hold a lead.

I don't think we have a shot. It's just nice to watch a game and actually think we have a chance to win it again.
