And 6yrs isn't too many at all for Hamels.

It is (for any pitcher, or player for that matter), but it's better than watching him pitch for the Yankees or Dodgers. The open market will deliver him at least a 6 year deal, so that's what we're looking at.

Why's everybody trading Lee? Are we writing off 2013 already, even though we're trying to extend Hamels? Doesn't make sense to me.

2013 Phillies = Wheeze Kids II
We need a bat,and Lee's money coming off opens up alot.

Josh Hamilton? Too many injuries methinks. I think with the barren farm system and so many contracts they need to just suck it up and keep what they have and see how it goes. Hopefully everything doesn't go wrong like this year.

I keep hearing Michael Bourn, which i like alot. And i'm hoping Brown if he ever gets a chance to stay health and play. We need a 3rd basemen with some pop badly as well.

Yeah 3B is a disaster. Can't have a hole in the lineup at that position.

Maybe Lee can get us that AA 3rd basemen OLT from Texas. Dude has serious pop and he's blocked by Beltre.

hamels will sign and lee gets traded to texas, probably in the same day. write it down

and 6 years is too many years for a pitcher

rumor that texas is targeting lee if they can't land hamels or greinke. makes a lot of sense for both teams, assuming dipshit can get a solid return for lee this time around.

your second point is dumb. not surprising

I wouldn't touch hamilton. Gonna have to overpay to land him, he's too injury prone, and he's on the wrong side of 30. Exactly the type of player amaro targets

don't think texas is trading him. he's moving to 1B next year when napoli leaves

apparently the nats are going after bourn if he reaches free agency. they are desperate for a CF (just sent ankiel down this week) and they have a ton of cash (their owner is worth something like 4 times what mark cuban is worth). he would be a perfect fit here but there is going to be a lot of competition to sign him.

EDIT: From Jayson Stark's column today...

Other teams also report the Nationals haven't been focused on trying to deal for a center fielder before the deadline. They seem satisfied that they can live with an outfield of Bryce Harper, Michael Morse and Jayson Werth down the stretch, then plow into a free-agent market with lots of attractive center field options this winter. There has been speculation for months that the Nationals are gearing up for a major push to sign Michael Bourn.

wouldn't surprise me if phils pick up polanco's option for next year. there is nothing on the FA market at 3B. more great amaro planning

the handling of this hamels situation continues to piss me off. how dumb is it that the phils are making their determination on whether to deal him based on what now amounts to a weeklong sample (approx 4% of the season) of game outcomes? As if a week of good or bad play means anything at all. They are losing leverage (in both a trade and contract negotiations) by the day.

Their stupidity is extremely frustrating. How the fuck did amaro get into and graduate from Stanford?????

Not everyone can make a good GM - you don't know until you try to do it.

apparently the MLB players union (arguably the strongest union in the country) is putting a ton of pressure on hamels to test free agency. They believe that he can top the deals that santana and sabathia got on the open market.

I really hope I'm wrong but I think he is as good as gone.

finally some good news. figures that the '13 draft is supposed to be the worst talent crop in a decade

These kind of generalized statements are stupid. If your scouting is good you ought to be able to find a really good prospect with a Top 10 draft choice.

Of course. But it's kinda like when the flyers ended up getting screwed out of the first overall pick when patrick kane was the consensus #1 prospect. We know how that ended up. Some drafts are better than others. For example 2005 is considered one of the best draft classes of all time (Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Braun, Tulo, McCutchen, ellsubury, bruce, rasumus, etc)...would be nice to have a top 10 pick in a year with a loaded class.

Pretty much blows to be discussing the draft in July. What year is this, 1996?

Hypothetical question someone asked me today...

If you could only choose one of weber/hamels to play in philly for the next decade who would you choose?

Baseball and the Phils are my favorite. Always have been, always will be. That said I don't think amaro is capable of winning a WS. The flyers young core reminds me of the phils in '06-'07. Difficult choice...and I'm on the record as saying I really want the phils to sign hamels, but in this scenario I chose Weber.

Love the Flyers and all, but hockey will always be 4th on my list of sports. Nothing in hockey will ever be monumental enough for me to go, "OH MY GOD." Love the Flyers, but I'll take a parade in three other sports over it any day of the week.

I've gotten my Phillies parade. I would take a Flyers Stanley Cup parade over any other sport at this point, with the far-fetched exception of a Temple Owls National Championship parade.

Dude, I completely agree. Feel like the flyers have given us the most parade teases at this point in our lifetimes, so their parade would also be the most gratifying in a 'they finally did it' sorta way.

Also the Flyers somehow became a likable team last year with the leadership transitioning from Richards/Carter to Giroux.

This is really a HUGE week in Phila sports coming up. Big ramifications for these two franchises.

good point. I never really thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right.

Made it to Eulogy on Thursday night. Loved the beer selection, but the crowd in there couldn't have been worse. Bunch of beer nerds. When I ask about a specific beer I don't want the bartender to make me feel like it's the first beer I have ever had, I just want him to answer my question.

So hipster beer drinkers are now on the top of my shit list (right below amaro and vick) Fucking dorks

I went with this because it had the coolest name...and was on tap. Delicious.

Only two words you need to know about Belgian beer: "La Chouffe"

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/1836

Some people in Brugge introduced this to my wife and I when we were there and we all trashed Prez W (who was actually in Belgium at the time) together - good times! :D I was thrilled to see it in Monk's about a year later and now it's available in many places around here.

Eulogy is ok I guess - kind of always packed in there.

I'm going to Village Whiskey after the Phils game Wed and to Melograno with my parents on Sunday.

Well, wasn't a creep to me exactly. But he was definitely trying to manhandle every woman around him....as they all had the look of "oh shit, I think I may be raped" on their faces.

La Chouffe did a collab with Ommegang at the time called, "Gnomegang". That shit was good.

I didn't see him pitch after the 1st inning but if Pence didn't misplay a flyball, he wouldnb't have given up the 1st 2 runs.
