Black Mass on Thursday night. Not good. I was disappointed. Not sure someone who didn't already know the Whitey Bulger story would be able to entirely follow it.

Bridge of Spies last night. Pretty good and better than I expected.

Spies had a great script and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Coen fanboy.

As for Black, at least Johnny Depp is giving a damn for once. Love that dinner table scene and use of Slave by Rolling Stones. Very reminiscent of Scorsese.

    Zootopia

It was my first trip to the El Capitan in Hollywood and it was a great movie as well.

    A Walk Among Tombstones

Good thing Liam is in the next Scorsese film because I'm sick of the Charles Bronson roles already.

    10 Cloverfield Lane
Good movie, just don't go into it expecting a "sequel" to Cloverfield. Leaving the theater I felt a little underwhelmed, but I realized it was because I expected it to tie into Cloverfield much more than it did. Treat this like it is a stand alone movie and you'll probably enjoy it more.

Woman in Gold. It was OK, could have been much better since it's based on a true story about an elderly Jewish woman trying to recover art works stolen by the Nazis. I like Helen Mirren in just about anything but the story needed more cohesion.

    10 Cloverfield Lane

It was good, still trying to wrap my head around a few plot points

Is this going to be a trilogy? I heard a 3rd movie will eventually come out

The guy who directed 10 Cloverfield lane, Dan Trachtenberg, is from the philly area. I know he went to Temple. So nice job on his first movie

Jessica Lange did a hell of a job as Patsy Cline. Good movie.

Zootopia. Saw with the nephew and a pal of his. They laughed at the kid parts, I laughed at some of the subtext. (And some of the kids parts too.)
Overall I would have liked to have seen something else --- but, if I had to sit through a kids cartoon it was good to sit through one that had some major themes going on and twisted some of the stuff around in ways that had me thinking.
If they took out some of the words in the movie and replaced them with what I believe the writers were referencing there would be some outraged parents. I thought that was clever, and might teach the kids good lessons.
Also --- they made a meth/Breaking Bad reference (totally obvious, including using the names Walter and Jesse in the event any adults watching who had seen Breaking Bad were wondering), which was the funniest part of the movie to me.

Point Break (the original one, not the 2015 bullshit). Easily one of my favourite popcorn movies of all time! So over the top, so cheesy, so perfect!
